When using the Convert tool I can click on a handle to remove it (or set its length to 0)
But when using the Pen tool combined with ALT (on Windows) which temporarily activates the Convert tool
clicking on a handle does nothing ...
This means there is no way to remove a handle without switching tools (and therefore closing the path)
Is this a mistake by Adobe?
I have read several Pen tool tutorials but haven't found anything about this:
If I draw a path with the pen tool and later want to reactivate it, clicking the last anchro point to make the path active severs one of its control handles. Specifically the handle that is for the curve that is yet to be drawn. And after that I have to use the Convert Anchor Point tool to recreate both control handles and try to math the already existing one to its former place.
How can I fix this?
I've used Xara for a while now, but I've never figured out how to remove or delete a curve edit handle. I mainly want to get rid of ones that are created spontaneously when I add/delete other points on a shape. Attached is an example where the curved cusp of the arrow came, seemingly, from nowhere. All I want to do is restore the angular property. I've tried moving the handle to be on top of the point indicator, but that's an imprecise action ... that often leads to the shape spinning wildly.

If I use the eraser tool to remove parts of a straight horizontal line, the resulting lines are not 180°.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was sent a complex illustrator file recently that contained a lot of distress patterns and points that is basically impossible to work with. It takes 10-15 seconds just to select or deselect any of the objects. I'll I need to do is move the art around a little and resize stuff, but it's taking ages with the lag. I'm using CC on Windows 7 64bit. What options are there to work around this? Is there a way to tell Illustartor to stop rendering, so I can just move stuff around without it lagging so bad? I thought the new engine was supposed to be faster and better at rendering.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a set of process color swatches which I defined as LAB colors. I use them mostly in InDesign. This morning I opened them as a swatch library in Illustrator for the first time. The CMYK numbers are significantly different from what they are in InDesign. Both documents have the same color management policies/rendering intent. I know that there is no "LAB mode" in Illustrator but I'm surprised that it translates the LAB>CMYK in a different fashion than does InDesign. I guess the solution would be to remake my swatches defining them as CMYK colors. However, that somewhat defeats my original plan: define the swatches in LAB so they will get translated as accurately as possible in different programs.I'm using CS4 on a Mac.

I am talking about this:
To be able to make a sharp corner I have to manually click on the anchor point so the handle which is still unused gets deleted. The anchor points are particulary small and the don't scale when zooming so sometimes it's just hard to click them and therefore I would love if I could automatically remove the handle with a key/key combination.
Im wondering if it is possible to rejoin an open path without removing the bezier handle of the open point.
I find that I quick switch to the direct selection tool to rotate my previously placed anchor or some other quick edit, and then when I want to carry on with the path I click the last point, which has the adverse effect for me of turning the open point into a mixed curve/corner and I have to redrawn the open anchor handle. Photoshop doesn't behave like this when clicking on open anchors, you have to alt click to achieve such behaviour.
I'm wondering how it's possible to drag only one handle out of an anchor point. Sometimes I have a path and some anchor points have only one handle dragged out. Now I want to adjust the other handle _without_ changing the already positioned handle. Is this even possible?
The "convert anchor point tool" does allow me to drag out handles, but only both at a time. This always results in changing the already positioned handle's position.
I would like to extend the bezier handle at it's current angle. Till now, I have been using a guide at the angle and following it when plotting the next curve (as above). I know you can use shift to lock it at a 90 degree, 45 degree angle, etc., but I would like tot keep it at its current angle. Is there a keyboard shortcut for this?

I used the magnetic and polyganol lasso tool to remove sections, after I drew a section, I pressed enter and then backspace, which made the section turn gray. But now it's just gray, on the same layer, and I can't do anything about it. I wanted an empty background under the image.
I can't use the magic selection tool because it DOES NOT select around the image properly (it selects INSIDE of the image) not where I cropped it out. And the magic selection tool is crappy. It leaves zig zagged white spots so why would I use that.
I cropped the entire thing out, and now I can't even see it without the background?
I'm using CS6 on my MacPro and and MacBook Pro (both running 10.6.8). When i use the crop tool on my laptop, an annoying black rectangle with dimensional data pops up whenever I crop. This does not happen on my desktop. I need this turned off on my laptop as well.

I've read and watched videos that say to open the picture, click on the healing tool, then press ctrl and click at the same time and pick a good area on the picture. Then after that, you can click on the spots to remove them. I try to do all this and it won't work. I get a plus sign and/or a circle with a line through it.
What does that mean? How on earth would I know how to fix this? I got it once yesterday but I don't know what I did. It seem to change when I changed the size of the brush but it was probably something else that changed it. It's probably something so simple.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in Windows 7 Virtual XP mode, since the program won't run in Win7 64-bit mode. It used to run fine in 32-bit mode. It runs OK in the virtual XP mode, but I find that the circle tool in the painting or clone stamp functions always has an arrowhead in the center of the circle. It never used to, just the circle for painting or cloning. How do I get rid of it? Changing the settings in the Preferences menu does not work. Also, the virtual mode doesn't seem to allow updating program files, although it updates XP files. I tried to download a Photoshop update file. There was a prompt asking where it should go. But when I selected a place, and clicked OK, the Next button did not come on.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a clipped image that I've placed a drop shadow on (using layer styles) on a transparent background. I want to quickly use the crop tool to remove any un-used pixels or artboard.
I tried to activate "show the layer edges", but it does not account for the layer style/drop shadow I've placed and also it goes away when you start to use the crop tool itself. So this doesn't really work.
Is there another way to do this? Other than eyeballing it? I want the image too be cropped as tightly as possible, but I do not want to tight too tight and cut of the drop shadow.

I sell clothing online, and I'm looking for the best way to quickly remove the price from an image of the retail tag. Everything I've tried seems to be tedious, so I don't think I've got the right tool so far. I just want to be able to do what was called a "Smart Erase" in my old Digital Image Pro program -- I simply drew a quick outline around the area to be erased, and then clicked on the erase button, and the price was gone off the tag (it inserted the same background area there).
After being embarrassed by failing to check the Clone/heal tool to make sure the opacity was set correctly, I am encouraged to ask another question that was not affected by the appropriate correction that made the tool work fine under most circumstances. However, using LR4 (and previously LR 3) )iMac 27 quad) at odd intervals, certain images show up with a single white spot, usually on a blue background, that cannot be removed or cloned with the LR Clone/heal tool. It can be removed with the clone tool in PS but not in LR. I don't know where the spots come from. They sometimes show up in a sequence of 3-4 or just singly. A copy of one is attached here. I don't know if this spot is an aberation in LR or from my cameras. Since it's happened with different cameras, I presume this is some problem with LR.

I needed to "heal" one dust particle from all of those which I did by using "spot removal" tool but unfortunately it doesn't work well on all images. Now I am stuck with a problem where I have over 7K pics which has that tool applied but I can't remove it from the whole batch in one go.
I've tried syncing with an image that has no "spot removal" tool applied but it didn't work. I coppied settings and pasted them but it only works for one image. I had them all selected and just hit restart on a tool but again it only does that for currently visible pic. I really don't know how to deal with this and I don't want to do it manually with all of them. It's worth mentioning that I could reset all of the settings but I already applied many adjustements to many images so only spot tool is what I want to get rid off.

How come the width tool can ne used on a path made by pen tool but not brush strokes? Is a brush stroke not a path??
