Illustrator :: Newly Created Brush Not Available?
Feb 28, 2014I spent a bit of time creating a brush style to simulate a rope. Artwork was created, dragged and dropped into brushes pallet, set as pattern brush. In the AI file in which the brush was created, it is visible and available as a brush when "Show pattern brushes" is checked. However, in other AI files I cannot find this brush! I have closed all files and closed AI, reopened and still nothing.

Illustrator :: CS6 - Newly Created Paths / Objects Appearing At The Bottom Of Layer
Jul 31, 2012Just installed the new CS6. I'm experimenting with Illustrator. I feel a little dumb asking this, but ALL of my newly drawn paths, brush strokes, objects etc. keep automatically shifting to the bottom of the layer instead of like usual, appearing at the top. Is there a way to turn this off? Revert back to normal?

May 18, 2012I am having an issue with trying to get and xref or multiple xrefs attached/overlayed in a drawing that I just create.
I have a command that will create a sheet set, then add sheets in that sheet set based on a number the user puts in.
I then ask the user if they want to add xrefs to the drawings, if they press yes, I want to have the dwgs that are selected by the user to be referenced into the newly created dwgs.
I believe I am mising making the dwg that is created the active dwg before adding the xrefs, but I may also be missing locking the dwg. At the moment I have it set to open the dwg after it is created then attempting to add the xrefs to it.

May 18, 2013I'm using a Wacom intuos 2 and working up some illustrations, but whenever I create a new layer, the brush tool goes completely defunct and makes absolutely no marks on the document. I have gotten in the habit of just restarting Photoshop, and then it works.

Lightroom :: Cannot Import Into Newly Created Folder Since Upgrade
Nov 27, 2013SInce upgrading from LR4 to LR5 I can no longer create a new folder in the 'destination' section of the import pane and import new images into it.
If I right-click, for example, the desktop in the 'destination' area and select 'create new folder' I can create the folder, but it doesn't then show when I return to LR for the import. I have to have already created to folder outside of LR before the import for it to show as a viable location to import to.

Aug 8, 2013we have a good size project going on with lots of view ports of a base map (floor plan or site plan). Then we set the viewport layers the way we would like it, but along the way, we keep getting updated base maps (floor plan or site plan) with new layer created in them. These newly created layers are for the originator and will not affect our project.
Is there a way to have our project set to ignore any newly created layer from the originator of the base files? That is, we have our project (viewport layers) set the way we want it. When we get an updated base file, replace the xref(s), our layer state will still be the same, ignoring any newly created layer, automatically. I sure hope I am clear enough here.
Our problem is that when we get a new base file, then we would have to go to every file that has a viewport related to this new base file and turn off the new layers.

AutoCad :: Newly Created Viewport Blanks Out Another Viewport
Jan 23, 2013Problem: When I create a new viewport, another viewport's paperspace blanks out or disappears. When I copy a viewport over, the new VP doesn't show anything and you can't maximize/"enter" its paperspace; it's like a simple rectangle, but the properties box says it is indeed a viewport.
Ex. Viewport 1 shows the top view of an object, Viewport 2 shows the right side view... as soon as I add Viewport 3, the top view in VP 1 blacks out. I attempt to ReDraw, Regenerate, etc, but it doesn't re-appear. I've run Plot Preview to see if maybe it's just a fluke with the graphics card on my screen, but alas, even in plot preview the viewport is blanked out.
It almost seems like there is a limited number of viewports I can use.
Solution: Run the MaxActVP command and set the value to a number greater than the number of VPs you actually need. This particular file had that value set at 2; hence, why a new, third VP blanked out the first one.
Illustrator :: How To Handle Complex Files
Nov 7, 2013I was sent a complex illustrator file recently that contained a lot of distress patterns and points that is basically impossible to work with. It takes 10-15 seconds just to select or deselect any of the objects. I'll I need to do is move the art around a little and resize stuff, but it's taking ages with the lag. I'm using CC on Windows 7 64bit. What options are there to work around this? Is there a way to tell Illustartor to stop rendering, so I can just move stuff around without it lagging so bad? I thought the new engine was supposed to be faster and better at rendering.

May 20, 2013When using the Convert tool I can click on a handle to remove it (or set its length to 0)
But when using the Pen tool combined with ALT (on Windows) which temporarily activates the Convert tool
clicking on a handle does nothing ...
This means there is no way to remove a handle without switching tools (and therefore closing the path)
Is this a mistake by Adobe?
Illustrator :: Can Handle Swatches Defined In LAB
Dec 14, 2012I have a set of process color swatches which I defined as LAB colors. I use them mostly in InDesign. This morning I opened them as a swatch library in Illustrator for the first time. The CMYK numbers are significantly different from what they are in InDesign. Both documents have the same color management policies/rendering intent. I know that there is no "LAB mode" in Illustrator but I'm surprised that it translates the LAB>CMYK in a different fashion than does InDesign. I guess the solution would be to remake my swatches defining them as CMYK colors. However, that somewhat defeats my original plan: define the swatches in LAB so they will get translated as accurately as possible in different programs.I'm using CS4 on a Mac.

Jan 30, 2014Is there a way to somehow define a shortkey to the process of removing our last anchor point's unused handle?
I am talking about this:
To be able to make a sharp corner I have to manually click on the anchor point so the handle which is still unused gets deleted. The anchor points are particulary small and the don't scale when zooming so sometimes it's just hard to click them and therefore I would love if I could automatically remove the handle with a key/key combination.

Sep 24, 2012Im wondering if it is possible to rejoin an open path without removing the bezier handle of the open point.
I find that I quick switch to the direct selection tool to rotate my previously placed anchor or some other quick edit, and then when I want to carry on with the path I click the last point, which has the adverse effect for me of turning the open point into a mixed curve/corner and I have to redrawn the open anchor handle. Photoshop doesn't behave like this when clicking on open anchors, you have to alt click to achieve such behaviour.

Mar 28, 2010I'm wondering how it's possible to drag only one handle out of an anchor point. Sometimes I have a path and some anchor points have only one handle dragged out. Now I want to adjust the other handle _without_ changing the already positioned handle. Is this even possible?
The "convert anchor point tool" does allow me to drag out handles, but only both at a time. This always results in changing the already positioned handle's position.

Nov 4, 2013I would like to extend the bezier handle at it's current angle. Till now, I have been using a guide at the angle and following it when plotting the next curve (as above). I know you can use shift to lock it at a 90 degree, 45 degree angle, etc., but I would like tot keep it at its current angle. Is there a keyboard shortcut for this?

Jan 23, 2014I have read several Pen tool tutorials but haven't found anything about this:
If I draw a path with the pen tool and later want to reactivate it, clicking the last anchro point to make the path active severs one of its control handles. Specifically the handle that is for the curve that is yet to be drawn. And after that I have to use the Convert Anchor Point tool to recreate both control handles and try to math the already existing one to its former place.
How can I fix this?

Jul 16, 2013I'm woring on a custom textile design that needs to be printed on fabric within the CAD-generated garmet production pattern.
The garmet pattern was created in the CAD progrom PAD.
PAD exports .dxf and .txt files. The dxf file imports into AI as text and code. The .txt file is unusable. It's scale is skewed and important information is missing from the file.
I'm working in AI 5.5 on a Mac. I've imported .dxf files from other cad progrms like Optitex no problem.
PAD exports .dxf AAMA. I need to import this into AI, and the AI forums say Illustrator can read .dxf files.

Dec 1, 2013After using Abobe Illustrator CS2 at work for years, I suddenly can't open old drawings and if I start a new one even if it is small, when I close it can't save do to not enough memory. There is plenty of RAM and room on hard drive. Already have restored from an older date. Even before we (IT guys and I) did the restore we un-installed they re-installed Adobe from disk, and we still have the same problem. This is a primary program used for about 90% of the work I do.
