How to take the Castellar MT font and fill in the blank spaces in the letters with colour? I need to use this font because that's my company's font for their name and I'm trying to design a sign. Illustrator :: Unable To Type Vertical Letters With The Vertical Type Tool?

Apr 15, 2013

I choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line.  The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise.  That is not the effect I want.  I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical.  I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.

Illustrator :: How To Join Two Letters Using Shape Builder Tool

Oct 3, 2013

I am making a sign for my logo. The 'i' in my script face is long and overlaps the following letter which the sign maker's router will not read. So I would like to be able to use the shape builder tool to join the 3 instances where the letter 'i' appears each to the following letter. No luck so far. I have turned the type into points. I have highlighted the first instance, 'i' and 'c'. but the shape builder tool shows a circle with a line through it... not working.

CorelDRAW X5 :: Letters Filling In When Converting To AI File

Apr 11, 2012

We receive art files here to work on. They've gone to a couple of different sources before we get them, so we really don't know how the file was originally saved. It gets emailed to us so that we can get it ready to send to the plate makers.

After opening the file, I save it as a Corel Draw file, then work on it. The problem starts when converting the Corel file to an AI file. The AI file now shows sections of letters filled in, like the letter o.

We're using Corel X5 and using Windows 7.

Illustrator :: How To Get Soft Inner Bevel On Type Or Vector Shape

Mar 27, 2013

Can Adobe Illustrator match or simulate inner bevel effects of inDesign and Photoshop? If it is possible, how to get a soft inner bevel on type or vector shape in Adobe Illustrator CS4 that can be set up to be identical (or, at least, very close) to the layer styles of PS and the type/fill/stroke/object effects of ID. So far, I have not been able to achieve the same look with 3D extrude and bevel in AI. I want a solid red object with a soft 16 point white-tint highlight and a soft 16 point black tint shadow. If it is not something that is possible with 3D extrude and bevel settings, this something that must or could be done manually with the gradient mesh tool?

Illustrator :: How To Make Type And Shape Cursor Darker

Oct 10, 2013

I just purchased a new iMac and have been using Illustrator (CS5) for some graphic design work. However, it's driving me CRAZY because the type and shape cursors are a super small and a light gray in color. It's very difficult for me to track the cursor with my eyes when it is small and gray on a gray and white artboard. Is there some way to make the cursors more easily visible? As far as I can tell, this is only an issue in Illustrator.

Photoshop :: Filling A Shape

Nov 22, 2006

This is a basic question as I am a novice with both Illustrator and Photoshop. I have a vector shape of an apple in Illustrator. It is 2 piece- the body and the stem. I would like to fill this shape with a part of a photograph.

I'm wondering if I should do this in Illustrator or should move it over to Photoshop as a selection and then do it there? I'm also going to bevel the edges of the shape.

The next question is how to do it, which tool should I be using in either program? Is this considered a "fill" operation or am I cutting this shape out of the photo?

Paint.NET :: Filling / Shading A Rasterized Shape

Feb 29, 2012

I have captured a GIS image from a government website that shows the boundary lines of real property parcels. I would like one of these parcels to be highlighted to make it easier to spot among all the others.

This particular GIS site appears to render the boundary lines in a rasterized (is that the right word?) format instead of a vectored format so instead of an actual smooth, continuous line I get a bunch of little one and two pixel segments that have diagonal gaps at their corners - this means that if I use the fill bucket tool I end up covering the entire image with the highlighting color and not just the one parcel.

I have attached a closeup of the jagged (rasterized?) line here in case the above wasn't clear.

Is there any hope of me being able to quickly and easily fill in the area that isn't completely enclosed at the pixel level?

GIMP :: Filling Line-drawn Shape With A Color

May 10, 2011

I have a cartoon line drawing. The black outlines are anti aliased so the edges of the lines have different grades of gray pixels on them. When I use the fill tool, and adjust the fill with the opacity and tolerance sliders, (I think that's what they're called in GIMP), I still can't get what I want. Only some of the gray pixels are colored in. Others are canceled out. Completely covered by the color, erasing some of the line.

Or some pixels remain uncolored. Just gray instead of a combination of the gray AND the fill color. What I'm looking for is an effect that looks like I placed a colored gel shaped like the cartoon character over the drawing. All the different shades of gray pixels should still be seen. Even the ones that are lighter than the fill color. With a gel, those pixels would appear darker, even though they were lighter than the fill color without the gel over them. The darkness of the color PLUS the added darkness of even the lightest gray pixels should make all the pixels appear darker. And the line would appear complete. Not partially erased.

Is it at all possible to get this effect?

AutoCad 3D :: Create Series Of Trays In Shape Of Letters - Unable To Sweep 1 Selected Object

Aug 14, 2013

I need to create a series of "trays" that are in the shape of letters. I am having some success with certain letters, but zero success with others.

I am creating these letters using a curve brought in from illustrator, and sweeping the profile that I want to use around the curve to create the outside.I am then using presspull to create the base of the tray.

However, sometimes the sweep command will simply say "unable to sweep 1 selected object" with no explanation as to why.

Sometimes I will get the shape that I want, but it is facing the wrong way, and I cannot fix it. Other times it will simply stall and then delete both the curve and the profile.

Illustrator :: How To Change Type Insertion Point Vs Type Tool Cursor Position

Feb 11, 2014

I'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

Illustrator :: Filling A Space

Mar 24, 2014

I am doing maps. Bodies of water need to be shaded, i.e., filled with a background. The current problem involves coast lines. I have two bodies of water to "shade" -- Pacific Ocean off California and the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico.

I enclosed the Pacific Ocean segment by using straight lines at right angles to intersect the coastline. Use the Paint bucket and no problem. When I go to the same, i.e., enclose the northern part of the Gulf of California by using a straight line across the the gulf enclosing it Illustrator gives grief. Sometime one error message, sometime another, sometimes nothing. I am told to select the paths enclosing the space I want to "Live Paint". I do it, but no joy.

By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.

Illustrator :: Filling A Stroke With White

Mar 19, 2014

I want to produce a white image of a stag without a background. I traced the image and have it rendered with a path using the stroke tool. You can see the stroke selected below.

My goal is to remove the green circle in the background and save the white stag only. Right now the stroke is not filled -- the white color is the transparent background. This is what the image looks like in Illustrator without the background and no color applied to the stroke.

Of course if I deselect the stroke, the object disappears, and when I save it, there's nothing visible. My goal is to print a white stag on a green T-shirt. Do I need to convert the stroke object to something else, then apply a fill? I don't know how to proceed.

How I know there might be a way to turn that shape into a type that I can also select it and fill  with color but not asking to make or stroke path. I try to fill in shape with color through the menu task bar on top of the canvas window pane.
