Illustrator :: Exporting To JPG - White Turning Transparent
May 9, 2013
I have an A3 sized times 3 artboard file that I want to save out at 300ppi so that I can print it at A1 without losing much quality. I do this every couple of months this will be the 4th time or so. Each time I run into this same problem and kind of just fudge my way around, but I'm not having as much luck this time and can't move forward to printing.
each sheet is a series of 20 coupons or so like seen above but when i export to jpg some of the coupons come out like this:
the white layers (there are two) both go transparent and the background paper image leaks through. as you can see in the after shot, in the upper right, some white is preserved (the shadow in a link file, but the white under 408 is an illustrator shape)
I've tried changing the white to 1%k or 1%c 1%m 1%y 1%k and things. usually fiddling with it like this in serveral random ways gets it to work eventually.

I see that when I export for web, I can crop all regions whose alpha is zero. But what if I want to crop all regions whose alpha is below (say)10%? Is there a way to do that?

I have created a back and front for a business card and although it is 3.5" x 2" in illustrator, when I export it as any other format (tiff, jpg, bmp, etc) for some reason it saves this huge white area around it. The backside of the card (with all of the info) saves with just a little white bar at the top. The colored side of the card saves where it has a massive white space surrounding it.
The colored card does have some clipping masks and a transparency (for the background). That is all that I could think would possibly mess it up....

I have put together an ad for my small company but am having a problem after printing to a high-res pdf with there being a thin white border where the edge of the actual file (its a square) is. This placed file is a transparent PSD file. How I can eliminate it?

When I sent a complex artfile with transparency and special effects in Illustrator to print, a white transparent box shows up in some of the illustration. I think there's a way to go about resolving this problem in illustrator under the transparency flattener presets but not totally sure how to go about readjusting the numbers.

I used trace to do a trace of my image. I then used live paint to paint chunks of it. When I hovered over each bit, it would come up with a thick pink line and would fill in that line. So all was going well, I got everything the colour I wanted it, etc. I tried to export my image to a PDF and the purple lines that were so useful to me when I was doing live paint still showed up, but showed up as a white outline. I read forums and tried everything-deselected the keep ability to edit in illustrator and create acrobat layers from top level layers. But every time I try to open it in preview on the mac, the purple lines are still there. I can "click off of them" within illustrator, ie-select somewhere else on the page and it makes them go away, but even if they aren't showing up when I save it, they still show up on preview. I can't print it out like it is now!

When I use a transparent gradient on top of a darker colored background, I can see white as part of the transition, even though I have it set to fade to no fill.
And, no I don't want to use the multiply filter to solve this issue. Needs to be set to "normal" because the object will be used for web. This feature works correctly in Photoshop.

How do I make the white areas inside this logo transparent? I can't seem to find a way to do it and I would like to so it can be put onto different coloured backgrounds. The semi-cirlces are all seperate shapes, the white circle outline is a white cirlce with a smaller blue circle placed on top and the text is normal text on the blue circle.

I have a logo that I made into a vector image. It is simply black text with a transparent background. I am trying to create a duplicate of the image- but with the letters inverted to white (still with a transparent background). I am pretty new to illustrator and am not sure how to get this effect. I have tried using the "ignore white" button in image trace as I did with the black text image, but all it does is erase my text too. Is there an easy way to do this?
I have also tried to go to "object/edit color/invert" but all it does is say there are no recognizable colors to invert....

I recently invested in CS6 Production Premium and I've just tested legacy support by saving an Illustrator CS6 image in CS4 format.
The image contains a number of semi-transparent gradient meshes used for highlights.
Having loaded the saved CS4 .ai file in CS6, white lines appear along my semi-transparent gradient meshes (see the attached screenshot).
What's happening is that the anchor points with 0% opacity in CS6 suddenly have 100% opacity when I load the saved CS4 files in CS6.
Is this a known error? If so, how/where do I report it?
Here are the relevant CS6 and CS4 files: [URL] ....
There are no white lines when I save the image in CS5 format and load it in CS6.

I have a multilayered psd file. All layers should remain opaque except the black to white gradient layer where I need the white to be transparent. So that when I place the final psd on top of a block of solid colour in Indesign the gradient shows the background colour through where the black fades off.

I just noticed that my assemblies are turning transparent when I edit them anymore. It was working the other day and I haven't changed any settings or downloaded any service packs so I don't know why it stopped doing this and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to make it start again. I have just recently upgraded (if you want to call it an upgrade) to Inventor Pro 2013 from 2011 so I'm not quite sure how to change everything else.

I have been trying desperately to change a feather boa from white to black in Photoshop, but it does not look realistic no matter what I do! Tried everything - selecting using the pen tool, refining edges, layers, hue/saturation etc etc. There must be a way to make them black and look realistic? This is the pic I am working with.

I've seen tons of photos in black and white that look spectacular. I have a feeling a lot are taken with black and white film, but some must be turned b/w! My question then is how do you achieve this awesome b/w in photoshop? For a while I just turned it grayscale (i know, i know.) Then I just desaturated. And recently someone told me to make a hue/sat adjustment layer and play with each of the different shades. After playing with all these ways I haven't been able to get the effects I want. I tried browsing around looking for a picture that embodies what I want just in case...And I finally decided to just give you a site, I love this photographer and the ways she uses b/w and other tons!

how i would remove a background from a picture, and turning it white, leaving only the person in the foreground unchanged. I can think of some pretty simple ways, but im looking for a way that makes a seamless transition from the orginal person in the picture to the white background without any jagged lines.

I have spent some time trying, in PaintShop Pro 7, to create an image with a transparent background to use as a layer over an underlying jpg.
I have now done it in Gimp, and tried it over another image in Gimp - it works. But when I export the image either as a GIF or as a JPG there is no transparency when I paste it over another image in PaintShop Pro.
Perhaps it would be easier to do the whole thing in Gimp, but it would be convenient to be able to do it in PSP too.

A client gave me a PDF of a typical architectural floorplan; with various rooms in the building. My job is to slice it so that each room is a separate slice. Easy. But we need the background of each slice to be transparent. Essentially we want to overlay a line drawing outline of the rooms on a different background. But when I save it as either a GIF or a PNG, it always saves the bg as -white-, regardless of how I try to set the transparency colour.
Now in Corel, if you save as a GIF or PNG and set the transparency colour to the -background- colour (white), the GIF or PNG auto-magically gets saved with a transparent bg. But this is not happening for me.
So... is there a way to save my GIF, PNG slices so that the white is automatically converted to transparency in each slice?
Or do I have to -manually- remove all the white in the main image (not looking forward to that!) and then slice?

I have tried 10 times now and all I am trying to do is remove a white background to a logo and export so that the background is transparent. Every time I remove the background and export and open, it shows up with the white background again. I know this is simple and driving me nuts.

I'm using CS and am trying to get an image into a QuarkXpress doc (Ver 6.1).
I think it has a tranparent background (i.e. I can see through the image in PS to the gray and white checked board). I save it as a TIFF and then when I 'get picture' from Quark, it appears with a white background.
How can I lose the background so that the holes in the image show the background that is in the picture box in Quark?
