Illustrator :: Make White / Purple Lines Go Away With Exporting PDF?
Apr 3, 2013
I used trace to do a trace of my image. I then used live paint to paint chunks of it. When I hovered over each bit, it would come up with a thick pink line and would fill in that line. So all was going well, I got everything the colour I wanted it, etc. I tried to export my image to a PDF and the purple lines that were so useful to me when I was doing live paint still showed up, but showed up as a white outline. I read forums and tried everything-deselected the keep ability to edit in illustrator and create acrobat layers from top level layers. But every time I try to open it in preview on the mac, the purple lines are still there. I can "click off of them" within illustrator, ie-select somewhere else on the page and it makes them go away, but even if they aren't showing up when I save it, they still show up on preview. I can't print it out like it is now!

I came across a problem. I have a logo that had a white background and I did a Alpha to transparent on it to remove the white. Now I get this purple/white line around the image.

is there a way to remove or avoid getting purple & green hues in midtones (occasionally in shadows) when making images black and white?
I've been using the channel mixer (most times the red channel) to covert images to black and white and there's noticable purple/green hues.

I have an A3 sized times 3 artboard file that I want to save out at 300ppi so that I can print it at A1 without losing much quality. I do this every couple of months this will be the 4th time or so. Each time I run into this same problem and kind of just fudge my way around, but I'm not having as much luck this time and can't move forward to printing.
each sheet is a series of 20 coupons or so like seen above but when i export to jpg some of the coupons come out like this:
the white layers (there are two) both go transparent and the background paper image leaks through. as you can see in the after shot, in the upper right, some white is preserved (the shadow in a link file, but the white under 408 is an illustrator shape)
I've tried changing the white to 1%k or 1%c 1%m 1%y 1%k and things. usually fiddling with it like this in serveral random ways gets it to work eventually.

I have created a back and front for a business card and although it is 3.5" x 2" in illustrator, when I export it as any other format (tiff, jpg, bmp, etc) for some reason it saves this huge white area around it. The backside of the card (with all of the info) saves with just a little white bar at the top. The colored side of the card saves where it has a massive white space surrounding it.
The colored card does have some clipping masks and a transparency (for the background). That is all that I could think would possibly mess it up....

I shot an event for a couple (a reception) and I didn't have my gray card so I set my Canon 5D mkII on auto white balance (shooting with a Canon 24-70 2.8 and a Sigma 85 1.4). As you'll see from the two example photos - the shots taken in the venue lobby looked fine, but the shots from inside the event itself were amazingly saturated. The room had a ton of very bright uplighting in purple and pink - the shots looked fine in the viewfinder, but once I brought them into LR4, there was a nearly complete purple/pink cast over everything. Setting the white balance in LR to auto, tungsten, flourescent - nothing worked. Adjusting the temp sliders - only slightly better. Reducing vibrance and saturation useful a little more, but I'm really having a hard time finding a fix!

I've been getting pink or purgle lines bordering certain objects in my photographs. You can see them on the RAW images. When I merge them using HDR you can see how prominent the lines become. I'm not sure if the problem occurs in my camera (Canon T2i) or lens when I take the shot.I've tried using Color Range and the Magic Wand Tool but it is a tedious process.

swatch that I have created in illustrator. Once the swatch is applied as a fill there is a white line surrounding the original pattern. I have read other blog posts about the issue that state that the lines are just on screen and dissapear when you export as a PDF and when you print. I printed the design today at three different scales (100%, 40%, 20%) and all showed a white line but only on the horizontal axis. Both horizontal and vertical lines are visible when exported as a PDF. The original design is vector.
Here is a screen shot of the design from my computer:
Here is a photo of what the design looked printed (notice that the white lines are ony visible on the vertical axis):

I designed a vector in Adobe Illustrator CS6, but when saved as an .eps file, white vertical lines appear in my gradient.
What is happening? I've tried rasterizing the vector at 300 PPI with anti-aliasing, but the edges look jagged (but I really want to keep it as a vector anyway)
I don't know whether it's relevant, but I'm using process colours (but that's only because I couldn't get spot colours to work properly).

I keep getting a white outlined box around type in my Illustrator artwork. It’s a simple logo design with a gradient circle with an S on top.
Text is converted to curves.Text and circle gradient are on different layers.Colors are CMYK. Not spot.Looks fine in Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign but shows up when exported or printed to Acrobat. Also shows up in MSWord 2010 and 2013.Exporting artwork to EPS, BMP, EMF, TIF, JPG, all produce the same result.Flattening the artwork doesn’t fix the issue.Having this issue with both Illustrator CS6 and CC.

I am getting white lines around anything with a drop shadow or outer glow after flattening the transparency in Illustrator CS6. The only thing I have found that remedies this is to rasterize all objects with effects. Is there another way with out having to rasterize the transparencies?

I can change the dark color in the border to any color I want using the stroke color. But I can not change what appears to be white, the area surrounding the darker color, in the border, to any other color. If I change the fill color it changes the gold colored area. All I want is to change the white lines in the border area.

This is my deconstructed crest logo, all pieces taken apart. I tried to find the source of the problem but it doesn't seem to be anything that I can track.
This problem ocurrs (the white lines on the "body" and on the two "wings") only when I use Save for Web with the GIF, JPEG and PNG options. If I use the WBMP, SWF, or SVG options then the white lines do not appear. They also do not appear if I use the regular Save As, or if I export to PNG, JPEG, etc.
The black forms are just shapes with black fills (no strokes) on them - so there is no reason that I can find for this happening.

I'm trying to create a compound path in order to mask off some bits and create letters, but there seems to be some kind of overlap and its leaving a white line where there shouldn't be one. Its all set up to snap-to and both shapes are perfectly in line, but its still leaving this white border.
The top of each letter is basically just 2 semi circles, the diameter being where the white line is. the lines are still visible on low-res monitors...
how to get rid of this line or if it will even print?

I recently invested in CS6 Production Premium and I've just tested legacy support by saving an Illustrator CS6 image in CS4 format.
The image contains a number of semi-transparent gradient meshes used for highlights.
Having loaded the saved CS4 .ai file in CS6, white lines appear along my semi-transparent gradient meshes (see the attached screenshot).
What's happening is that the anchor points with 0% opacity in CS6 suddenly have 100% opacity when I load the saved CS4 files in CS6.
Is this a known error? If so, how/where do I report it?
Here are the relevant CS6 and CS4 files: [URL] ....
There are no white lines when I save the image in CS5 format and load it in CS6.

I'm trying to draw Stewie Griffin in Illustrator. I've gotten pretty far, but now I'm stuck on coloring the eye white.
I drew the eyes by making a circle, filling in a black circle, and then drawing the two lines to make the eyelids. I'm pretty sure i have to do something with Pathfinder here to get the middle "third" of they eye sections white, but after much playing, I've had no luck.

Can I do that in illustrator or do I have to have photo shop for that?

I need to make some paths - straight lines, really - in an Illustrator file that will be "paper white" when printed. Working in CMYK mode. In other words, when printed, there will be no dots at all in those spaces. Can I do this by setting the fill to none and the stroke to white? Or do I need to do something else to signify "this space is empty"?

How do I make the white areas inside this logo transparent? I can't seem to find a way to do it and I would like to so it can be put onto different coloured backgrounds. The semi-cirlces are all seperate shapes, the white circle outline is a white cirlce with a smaller blue circle placed on top and the text is normal text on the blue circle.

Im working in Illustrator CS5 and I've designed a logo for a client and want to send a version that is in color, a version that's black, and a version that's white. The color and black are fine since they already stand out on the default white/transparent background. But i want to put the white design on a background that will make it visible. Is there a way to set up the document so that the background is a color so that you can see the white design, but when it's place into another document it's just the design and dosen't include the backgound?

I have been a Photoshop hobbyist. Now I own a printing business. This has forced me into the world of Illustrator for our printing and cutting machines. Although I am very comfortable with PS, Illustrator. One of the key things is making "Cut lines" in Illustrator to send to the cutting program. Now here is my dillema, all of my images I have made are in Photoshop. To make these cut lines I have to stroke the image. When I bring a picture into Illustrator I can not get it to stroke that picture. It just strokes the box around it, or unless I draw a circle or shape around it and stroke that shape. Please refer to the picture I have attached. The first one is a decal that we initially made. The second is the image that I want to stroke for cut lines do I can just have that as a decal without the white circle.

Hard to explain this one, but I want to make a series of lines that run horizontally, but as they descend downwards, the spacing between them gets thinner.
