View 4 Replies View RelatedMac, Illustrator CC.(Vent from CS 5 to CC). I am producing an annual report containing a lot of graphs using CC. Hoewever i stil have to use Indesign CS5 (InCopy later on).I have experieced for several times now that an error occurs after i place the charts in InDesign. As i try to open the charts from within InDesign, i get: Errormessage: "see Attached" - then it opens - completely empty.Afterwards trying to open from illustrator CC i get the same errrormessage "see Attached" - then it opens - completely empty. However i can open the graphs from illustrator CS5. But only 1 layer and all hidden layers thrown away.Have you experienced something linke this using CC - or do you know if the graph possibilities have changed in CC.
perhaps the files ar damaged in the moment i open from inside InDesign CS5?
I have created reports with infographics (bar charts/pie charts etc.) where the raw data and charts were created in Excel and then I copy it into Illustrator and tweak the design (color, text, etc) and then drop it into InDesign.
I am now in the process of creating several (30+) reports that will use the same design template from InDesign - but all of the garphics will be uniqe.
What is the best approach to create all of these graphs? Is there a script or macro that I can create and save when I tweak one graph, and then apply it to the subsequent graphs?
I know Illustrator has the graphing function but I havent had too much luck with and, and some of the graphs that I will create, such as donut graphs, cannot be created in Illustrator.
Any easy way to add the numbers/values into each bar in a bar graph and have them appear automatically when importing data from excel? I'm working w Illustrator CC.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to use graph tool in Illustrator CS6 (I have Creative Cloud..) but having some issues when changing the design of columns. I'll create a design for a certain set of columns, but when I try to use the design in the graph itself they disappear completely. The data still shows in the data menu, but no bars! And its not on all the bars, usually just one set. I've tried reentering the data and also recreating the column design and nothing seems to be working..I keep having to restart graphs and having the same issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to transform the y-axis to a logarithmic scale when creating line-graphs in Illustrator?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a horizontal bar graphic and I want to make it have the same shape than a circular graphic that I have as background.
What I do first is to rotate the graph (after converting it in an image) to the right angle, depending on where it has to be positioned. After that, I use the Effect->Deform->Arc to make it fit in the same shape as the circular graph. But when I do those processes (in any order) I get a distorted image, with lines not describing concentric lines (not as radius, I mean).
I got the perfect shape working on a MAC, but now I am working on PC. How can I achieve the same?
I attach an image descrbing what I am telling.
I have several Freehand bar graphs and line graphs that I need to convert to Illustrator. So far, I have saved the files to Illustrator 7 and then opened them in Illustrator CS2.
But the numbers underlying the graphs don't seem to come through. How can I keep those numbers intact, bringing them in from Illustrator so that I can go back into them and update numbers to generate the bar graphs and line graphs in Illustrator?
I made a circle. Moved it up about 300px then used the rotation tool to > move the center point to intersect with the art board's center point > alt clicked and set a 45* rotation. Then duplicated around.
I moved to AE and created a simple rotation animation. However, I need to exspand the the radius of those objects or create more space between them.
Is this possible without rebuilding it from scratch in Ai CS5? Is there a way of exspanding the radius in Ai?
I wonder of there is a way to expand objects with a filling, without creating the outside lines of the swatches you made to create an filling.
I add a printscreen... The first F is the filling, the second is an outline view of the expanded filling and the last one i wanna create. The way i create is, deleting the squares and use pathfinder but it take a lot time to do.
In a lab the students get this kind of graphs to later be processed in an axial system: a grayed pencil draw, very delicate, with all the imperfections in weight, intensity, etc.
We need to obtain an uniform line (a solid one, without gray variations, same weight, etc)
Autotrace seems the best tools although the results appear a little irregular. What could be the best approach as we have hundreds to process?
Beginning with the scanning (more resolution?) and processing firstly in Photoshop?
I have a detailed graph that is created in Excel that I want to paste into Illustrator so that I can save it as a high resolution TIFF file for submission to a journal.
In Excel the graph looks like this:
But when I select it (using Select Objects and then Copy OR Copy as picture) and paste it into Illustrator, it looks like this:
I have used different line formats in Excel for the different curves that are plotted and these obviously don't come through correctly when pasting into Illustrator. The lines are there but the scaling for the dashes or dots seems to be changed (increased). I'm good with Excel but a bit of an Illustrator newbie, why this is happening and can it be corrected.
I am on Win 7 64 bit system using Office 2010 and AI CS6
I'm trying to create a line graph in Illustrator CS5, with a data set that contains some numbers, but then has gaps before a final number at the end. The graph needs to show a general trend between the gaps.
Is there a way of forcing Illustrator to draw a line between those figures, as it's just leaving a gap in the graph at the moment.
In CS5 there was an option to use the Live Paint Bucket on a newly traced image and there were also gap options to close gaps when doing this. I do not see these options in CS6. Where are they?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn illustrator cs6, I have a complex shaped with a gradient fill. when I go to expand there is an option that says Expand Gradient and you select the amount of objects. so I selected 6 objects, and the expand tool did what I expected, my object got divided into 6 objects with fill colors relative to the gradient.
so I hit undo, and I moved a stop on my gradient slightly to affect the results a bit, and now it wont expand the same way. my gradient stays a gradient. I tried drawing new shapes with gradients and the gradient wont expand.
I've used the blend tool to make a series of lines between two other lines; I need to expand everything so that the whole thing becomes a fill-only object (no strokes):
- I expand it (Object > Expand; Object box checked, Fill box checked, Stroke box checked) and the object becomes strokes-only (no fill at all)
- I expand it again (Object > Expand; Object box greyed out, Fill box checked, Stroke box checked) and the object becomes fill-only (yay!) except the shape of the lines has changed (boo!). Unchecking the stroke box and leaving only the Fill box checked seems to have no effect, the object remains stroke-only).
Is there any way to uniformly expand the Artboard from the center of the artboard? I like the way my current page is setup, but I just need more border all the way around.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are introducing a new graph design, but has a problem with not being able to override the tick marks in the category axis in Illustrator CS5. A typical graph (line layout) can have 250 observations, and since we have the tick marks on full width, the graph gets "crowded" with black lines.
In the value axis there is possibilites for overriding the values, but not on the category axis.
Is there any way to script so that the tick marks in the category axis can be reduced/overrided to e.g. 1 in 20?
I am using CS5 and was forced into a workflow where everyone is using icons from the symbol library (web symbols to be exact). They are not being used as "symbols" per se, just icons. The standard procedure is to drag a symbol to the artboard and then "break link" with the button.
This sounds fine in theory but now everytime I click on this icon, my layer status is expanded (totally annoying).
This is completely recreatable from machine to machine.
why unlinked sybols would cause the layer dropdown to expand? (or how to avoid it)
In illustrator, I have placed an image that I created in photoshop. Once I trace and expand it, with the option to ignore white selected, there are still transparent shapes that I have to manually delete. For what I am doing now, it is way too tedious to have to do that. Why, if I'm 'ignoring white' so that I simply get a black/transparent vector image, are these transparent shapes showing up?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI opened a file I had been working on yesterday on a different Mac, and got the error message: "3D functionality is currently disabled due to OpenGL being disabled." I am currently using MacBook Pro (2008), running Mac OS 10.9, using PhotoShop CC. I've already looked at Ps Preferences>Performance and I see this.
View 15 Replies View RelatedHere's an extremely simple example.. It works with a circle or a square, obviously because it has the same height and width. The problem is when you have irregular shapes, (or in this case, an oval). I know I've seen solutions to this in the past, but I just can't think of how to word this question and find them again.
I know you can create multiple strokes for an object in the appearance palette, but I'm looking for something more effective than just having colored stroke > white stroke > colored stroke> white stroke > etc.
Here's a couple examples of the kind of effect I'm looking for.
I am not entirely sure why but all of a sudden my abienlity to drag anything with my mouse has been disabbled. When I try, it makes the ding noise that goes with being unable. I can still move the objects with the arrow keys. I am not that experienced with CS6 having only recently up graded.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to save my document to send to a client as a mock-up. When I try to save as PDF the tick box for "Use Artboards" is disabled, so when I save it saves the whole canvas instead of only what is on the artboard. When I try to export I can tick the tick box but the document still saves the whole canvas with everything that is "hanging off" the artboard too. The artboard is the exact size of the document.

I have looked high and low and have made no progress.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm try to automate the importing of the Varaible and datasets into my graphs via Scripting, but the ImportVaraibles() function doesn't seem to work. Here is my Script, mostly copied from the example script provided with Illustrator (CS5). And, this works manually, using the file names in the script, via Load Variable Library
Set appRef = CreateObject(strIllistratorVersion)
'Open the file and import the datasets
Set docRef = appRef.Open(strTemplate & "200-500.ai")
'docRef.Datasets.RemoveAll
docRef.Variables("Yearbook").Delete
Here is the problem, after I delete the previous library, then this next line, right from the example, does nothing
The script then exits with 'No Datasets in this document'
docRef.ImportVariables (strXMLFolder & "Lumber_200-500.xml")
'appRef.DoJavaScript "alert('Template:" & strTemplate & strRange & ".ai | XML file:" & strXMLFolder & "" & objFile.Name & "^')"
If (appRef.Documents.Count > 0) Then
Set docRef = appRef.Documents(1)
[Code]....
If I remove that delete line, the script runs, but just uses whatever Variables I had last loaded, not the XML file.
It's simply not loading. What do I need to do to get it to load?
I have a pre-existing graphic uses a stroke with variable with profile (I think) or a special brush to make it look like it's hand drawn. I'd like to apply the same effect to a few new illustrations to keep the style consistent. For whatever reason when I ungroup the graphic and select one of the paths, the stroke weight and variable width profile remain disabled (see pasted toolbar graphic below). The brush still says "Basic" despite the fact that visually it is certainly not the basic brush.
Selected Path
Toolbar (I realize that it says Group instead of Path, but even if I ungroup again and select the path the same options are disabled).
I have done this a thousand times, and not had a problem. Basically I tried putting a gradient into text, and nothing happened. I tried it on a shape, and it worked fine. So I went to the appearances panel and added a new fill for the text. It worked, but even with the stroke disabled, there is still a weird glitchy outline around the text?
I tried exporting the file as PDF to check if this is just showing up in program...but it shows up in the outputted PDF too!
I've got a bit of trouble with Illustrator that I assume has a really simple answer but I can't seem to find the preference for it. My objects seem to be snapping to place but, as far as I can tell, I have all those settings disabled.
