May 8, 2013I'm new to AI and I have a vector drawing done in pen that I'd like to color.... However, I can turn on the transparency view and the whole drawing is transparent.

Illustrator :: Converting Number Of Paintings Into Vector Artwork - Coloring And Shading
Nov 9, 2012I'm fairly new to Illustrator and have been going through a lot of tutorials on using the program with the goal of converting a number of paintings into vector artwork.
I can't seem to find any techniques for shade and color what I have so far.
Here is the original, which I used as a tracing template:
And here is what I have managed to do so far in Illustrator, exported as a PNG:
How would I go about achieving the blend of coloring in the front blue wave? I have tried gradient meshes, but they don't handle the curves of the waves very well.
Any tips on the techniques I could use to color this artwork.
Illustrator :: Transparent Lines Through Vector?
Nov 3, 2013I created a vector in Adobe Illustrator and there are transparent lines running through it. There are no inconsistencies in the path and this is the only file this has happened for. They are less visible while they are on a flat vector (see image 1), but they become more visible when placed as a smart object (image 2), especially when using a 3D effect from illustrator as well (image 3).

Jun 2, 2013I have a logo that I made into a vector image. It is simply black text with a transparent background. I am trying to create a duplicate of the image- but with the letters inverted to white (still with a transparent background). I am pretty new to illustrator and am not sure how to get this effect. I have tried using the "ignore white" button in image trace as I did with the black text image, but all it does is erase my text too. Is there an easy way to do this?
I have also tried to go to "object/edit color/invert" but all it does is say there are no recognizable colors to invert....
Illustrator :: Transparent PSD Image / Changes Color Of Vector Background After Print
Jan 11, 2013URL....I have a green vector background in illustrator and then I placed psd image over it and created PDF for press and under Color bitmap images I selected no compression.After viewing image in Acrobat all seems ok, I even checked with picker, but after I send this to printer (xerox in thsi case) I end up with this: Both .psd and .ai are in CMYK color space. For this particular case I could use mask to cover up that transparent space but my original project has shadows which I cannot mask by vector :S.
how to set color profiles or whatever is neccessary to avoid this issue. One thing I was using was, opening PDF in Photoshop and flatening all. Problem is that sometimes I need vector files and cut lines for cutter. Don't want to have bitmap, if I can have a vector? Also when I flaten image I do get same CMYK values in photoshop (with picker) than I have in Illustrator on vector object, but when I print this they don't match at all.
Illustrator :: CS6 - Coloring With Gradients

What i had to do is make each "gradient section" a different "shape", and make it exactly the right angle to contour with the flag.
I can do up and down gradients fine (even though it takes forever)how to do is the gradients that dont go up and down all the way.I could do this in about 3 seconds in photoshop, but I'm just about ready to give up in illustrator..
Illustrator :: Getting Vector Halftone From Grey Vector Elements
Jul 18, 2012I'll omit the long background --- suffice it to say I did this once and need to do it again, but can't recall the toolchain / workflow I used.
I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?

Oct 26, 2012I'm trying to practice on myself using the gradient mesh tool… I understand the point made about making many smaller meshes e.g. eyes, nose, mouth…
I open an image of myself >open the layers panel and lock my image…Create a new blank layer…Then I select my pen tool…Start making an outline of my face, approximately 1-3 pixels all the way around the outside…Then I go up to the menu bar and click on, "Object >Create Gradient Mesh" - 15 rows by 15 columns…then I use the selection tool and select the whole mesh that was just created…then set the opacity to 0%…Using the direct selection tool to select & move anchor points and handles as needed to match light lines…then I use the mesh tool to select an anchor point to start coloring this is where I start to run into trouble…
after selecting my first anchor point to color, I select the color picker tool from the toolbox for some reason I'm not able to select that color beneath the mesh (the color underneath the selected anchor point)…
I played around & so far the only way I'm able to select the color beneath is by moving the whole mesh to the side, but… I end up losing the reference point of where that anchor was…

Apr 20, 2013I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Aug 18, 2011I often produce graphics in CorelDRAW, export it as en eps file and insert it inside a MS Word document as an image and finally convert it to pdf. This way my vector graphics (often linedrawings with or without fill) usually is preserved in the final pdf document. I can zoom in and the lines keep on displaying perfectly sharp. This is important, since it easily looks bad when thin lines are turned into bitmaps, even when watched from a distance.
Now, in some graphics I created today, I had a circle with fountain fill and outline (symbolizing a sphere) put behind a filled rectangle, which had a uniform transparency applied to it. In the resulting pdf file, the 'sphere' was turned into bitmap. Inside CorelDRAW everything was vector graphics, but something was loast in the process. what happens with the graphics in the different steps in the process and eventually could explain a workaround to make everything look as vector in the final pdf file.

Feb 13, 2013Doing a layout for a client and they said they need a cut vector pdf for their printer. They are going to have my layout printed into a sign.
I don't know what a cut vector pdf is and I am very new to using illustrator. I just started using it two days ago for this specific project. I found the save to pdf option but I don't know what cut vector is, do I need to do something to cut it up or something?
I have creative cloud cs6 and am using illustrator cs6 for this project. I got no clue here what they are looking for. I can save it out to pdf is that what they mean? This is for an actual profesional printer they will be taking this to and they will make the sign from the file I give them.I have no idea about the file format for printing... I mostly do projects for the web and don't come across print print projects much.
Illustrator :: Opening PSD As Vector?
Jul 24, 2012I'm not that fluent in Photoshop. I have a PSD, see here: [URL] . I want to open this in Illustrator so I can print it on my vinyl printer. I need to be able to have this as a vector.
When I open it from a .eps, .pdf, whatever, I get some of the text as vectors, but everything else is some sort of image on 1 layer.
See this screenshot:What I did in the screen shot is take the layer that has most of the items, all together, not vectored and dragged it to the left for you to see.
Illustrator :: Turn Png Into Vector
Dec 18, 2013I'm very new to illustrator and have been trying to turn a logo (png file) into a vector. The logo is white lettering with a transparent background and I cannot get the logo to show up properly so that I can work with it. When I try to open the logo in AI it shows up behind the artboard - and if I try to click on "image trace" the logo gets covered by the white box and I can't see anything.

I can create a dot pattern, no problem, creating swatches, patterns, or using blends, but where I'm hitting the wall is the gradient effect. Tried opacity masks, but that doesn't cut it. One other question I have is, what technique would I use if I wanted an offset dot pattern, say 45°.

Sep 13, 2004I have only just got into using illustrator, after using photoshop for ages and getting bored with it, I have just made a vector image taken from a stock photo >here< at the moment it consists of 4 layers, one background white layer, a layer which has all the colour fills on, a layer with the outlines on it, and a final layer with some touch ups.
I realise now I should have made it in a much bigger size as I have been working on it at 400% and then scaled it down again on the nav and it just looks pathetic.
is there a way of resizing it as it is? or would I have to mess around with different progs and file formats?
I have had a quick browse to see if theres a thread on this subject, but cant seem to see anything of use.

Feb 14, 2013The final design I send over has to vectorized.I am going after vintage look.how to lay vector beat up/distressed textures over design, merge them and delete them etc. BUT I am not after that type of vintage/distressed look. I am more after having certian parts of the design being faded here and there. I have attached an example pic.I can't use opacities and it has to be one color.
I attached a halftone tutorial that does EXACTLY what I want, and it works perfectly BUT they are doing it in Photoshop, is there a way to do this or something like this in illustrator? URL...
Illustrator :: Cutting An Image Using A Vector
Nov 16, 2012i have a vector that i want to apply an image to. So i dropped the image into illustrator, and made a clipping mask, but if i go to save it, or print it, it tries to print space where the image is, even though it's only inside the vector outline. Kind of confusing with the wording, see pics, but I just want the vector to cut out of the image, and get rid of the rest of the image.

Dec 23, 2013I've recently been working with a new client who needs all image formats to be vector. I'm having a problem after sending the final images though. On my screen they are smooth and don't have any problems when it comes to clarity, but when I email them to the client they tell me that the letters have jagged edges and aren't proportionate.
Is there a certain way I need to save these images when it comes to emailing them? When I save them I go to save as, then I save it as an .eps, and then when the saving options box pops up I keep it on Illustrator 11 and then save it. Should I be picking an older version of the illustrator when I save it, or should I be using the "save for web" button?

Jul 2, 2013I am new to Illustrator and I just atempted my first vector drawing. The problem I have is that I finished all of the lines using the pen tool on all the outlines. I saved it as an svgz file and then I selected all of the lines and converted it to a live paint object to add in color using the live paint bucket tool. This all went well until at the end I noticed that along the outlines the color looked jagged along it.
Also I can see the outline of the pen tool when it intersects with other outlines with the pen tool. In the previous version of the Image before I converted it to a live paint object it did not do this.

Oct 3, 2013I have sent an image to a printer in eps & Ai format., but he is requesting the the logo be in an outlined vector graphic, And send it to them again in pdf format.
I have re-opened the pdf that I sent them in Illustrator and find the logo is composed of many shapes and when I use the 'direct selection tool' to select any letter within the logo, it shows an outline with many anchor points. These anchor points can be moved or re-shaped using the 're-shape' tool.
Also I can select any shape within the logo & resize and it does not seem to lose any quality at all.
Am I mistaken in thinking that this is already an outlined vector logo or is there more to it?
