Illustrator :: Changing Photo Into A Vector In AI Using High Fidelity
Sep 28, 2013I fully understand how to change a picture into a vector in Ai and to be clear, I don't want a silhouette or a black and white image, I want to use the picture. I have had good success with using the high fidelity option to change the pic and it looks great. The problem is, I am using a cutout and when I use the high fidelity option it fills the background in as white instead of a transparency. I've even tried to hit the ignore white button but it does not work. I've resorted to then opening it in PS and removing the white and saving as a PNG24 but, when you then open in Ai to work with again it's then again pixelated.

Feb 22, 2014I am trying to outline my text so that I can apply a gradient color fill and when I go to TYPE > CREATE OUTLINES it is greyed out. I try to expand the appearance and then create outlines. When I try to expand the appearance of the font, it is also greyed out.

Jan 6, 2014Im making a logo for a client and am having a nightmare of a time trying to properly use the clipping masks in illustrator CS5. I copied and pasted the logo I made behind itself with a different color just for a drop shadow-like effect. And now I'm trying to apply this diagonal line pattern I created over top the "shadow" I made to give it some texture.
Here's an example of what I'm going for, only imagine the line pattern on the text instead of banner.

Aug 24, 2012I must have hit a hotkey or something because now when I drag select vector and text and copy paste inside the same document it only pastes unformated text back without any vector.
When I use create outlines on the text it copies fine but if Im just copying everythign together or only the text object I get unformated text back.

Apr 20, 2013I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

These have appeared ok on print, but on screen, reading the same pdf-file, they're unacceptable, especially some texts in fontsize 5-6 pt are unclear. I have to convert the drawings, or at least the texts, to vector graphics. Can I open these tiff.s in Photoshop, change only the texts to vector graphics and then save in a format, that can be inserted in the Word2010 layout?

I have been using photoshop for a good year or 2 and have used the vector tools to create a number of vector images but nothing as detailed as this.
If someone could answer the questions below and maybe offer some personal advice that would be great:
1 - Would it be better to use a package designed for vectoring rather then using photoshop. I heard from a few people that Photoshop isn't the best tool for the job.
2 - How long would something like this take? A few hours? A day? Like i said i havn't done anything like this before even though i worked as a graphic designer for 8 months.
3 - Where would i start? Im thinking start with the dogs bodies, them move onto the coats (the coat with the number on it) etc etc, leaving the fine detail till last.

In my previous CD X5 32 bit install the Connect app worked with out errors displaying a Clip Art vector preview. Now after installing X6 64 bit, Connect in both x5 32 & x6 64 does not display previews for the clip-art .

Photoshop :: Vector Smart Object Text
Oct 23, 2012I am trying to make a text layer in photoshop and convert to a smart vector object, but it only gives me an option to convert to smart object, as opposed to vector smart object. The bad point about this is that the text becomes rasterised when exported to EPS or PDF (same with vector shapes within a smart object), unlike a regular vector layers which output correctly.
Is there anything i'm missing out on, or do I have to revert to importing all text from illustrator and set up my smart vectors like that?
