Aug 7, 2012I am trying to recreate this image as a vector. I thought it would be pretty simple but I am having trouble getting a good trace because it is so small.I am using Illustrator CS6.

Illustrator :: Layered Vector AI File With Raster (Photoshop) Layers Included As Vector Layers?
Apr 20, 2013I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Jul 6, 2012I have a friend who does drawings on paper that he wants to get scalable. The high-level path appears to be scan the image and run autotrace in AI.
As I look at online articles, some suggest taking the raster into PS to erase the pencil marks and ink the image. My friend does the inking on the paper before the scan.
I have some experimenting to do with autotrace settings, but I can see right away that some of the lines on the image vary in width in both PS and AI. And, no matter how good his inking is, there is still quite a bit of "noise" along the lines. His inking also leaves quite a bit of variation in line width. What he wants is a constant width.
My question is: if you want a line to be of constant width and you have a scanned image to work with, which tool (PS, AI) and what technique is best to create the result.
One thought is, rather than try to clean up the line in either tool, the better approach might be to draw a new line using the scanned image as a guide. My concern is that the line won't be smooth if done by hand.

I've been messing around with Live trace for a few days, but every time I try to convert it to Vector, it destroys my gradient, and converts my Pantone to CMYK.
URLs.....What I need to do, is convert to vector while keeping the gradient, and pantone colors in the graphic to prepare for screen printing.Before anyone says "you don't need to use vector for screen printing". We run Corel X4 on our transparency machine, so I need to convert to vector, and keep the halftones fine, as well as keep the pantone color book.It doesn't need to be a "quick" way to do it...it just needs to be done.

Jun 18, 2013I was working in Illustrator CS6 I had made a a bunch of vectors for a background and grouped them. I applied a blur to the group and was still editing the vectors within the group since then. After I saved and closed my file at the end of the day and opened it the next day my vector group is now solid. It seems like it is just a raster image? I can't edit it at all. How can I get it back? If I can't change it back I am going to have to start again!

Apr 20, 2013Is there a way to save and submit a Photoshop file containing both vector and raster art-unflattened- so that it stays vector and raster when the client opens it? The issue is: client wants to be able to zoom in on the whole file and not lose sharpness of the type.
Seems like a reasonable request. So the finished, unflattened file needs to include both types of layers. Someone suggested using Indesign. Could that work? Didn't Deneba Canvas used to work that way?

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Vector And Raster Line Width Changes?
Jun 11, 2012 I use and really like Corel Draw X3 (almost 3 years) and will keep that version on one P4 computer that runs win xp pro 32 bit.
X3 has been a great version that never crashes but it is getting slow as I increase the number of objects and symbols in my files. I have a new comp with win 7 pro 64 bit running CDraw X6 and the latest epilog 64 bit driver for my mini 24. I have been using the new X6 for 3 days .
In X3 a hairline or .001 is a vector cut. A line width of .005 and above are raster lines and they work well in my Epilog mini 24. I am using a 1.5" diam lens. In X6 a .005 line will not raster but only vectors. If I change it to .006 it becomes a raster line and will engrave OK.
The big Question:
Is there a way to make .005 raster as it did in X3? I have hundreds of files that are all .005 line width. I don't mind changing them but would rather not.
Could this change be because of the latest Epilog 64 bit driver that I am using with win 7 pro? Almost all my files have oddles of very fine detail (.005) and they would look a bit muddy changing the line width to .006.

I am unable to create a vector rectangle or to set a raster image layer to fit 3 x 4 cm. I intend to fill the 10 x 15 cm canvas with a plenty of 3 x 4 cm photos.
a) Considering a rectangle vector, I set it to 300 x 400 (width x height), but the size don't match 3 x 4 cm, since the ruler (preferences/units/ruler) is set to cm an it is clear the 300 x 400 vector is smaller than 3 x 4 cm. Then, how could I set vector size to millimeters or centimeters?
b) I paste an image as new layer in the 10 x 15 cm canvas. The pick tool allows just scale the image, but I would like to obtain more control over raster image size. So, similarly to the vector issue, how could I set raster size (layer image into bigger 10 x 15 cm canvas) to fit 3 x 4 cm exactly?

I tried tracing but the image resolution is low and I didn't get acceptable results.
I've also tried tracing the edge with line segments and Bezier curves. But when the lines close a polygon the resulting polygon is not what I expect.
What tools to use to convert it to vectors? I use CorelDraw X3 and PS 5.

Similar messages appear when trying other commands located within the Raster Tools tab.

The title bar at the top of the page shows the preview but it doesn't display on the page. It doesn't seem to matter if I import the file or if I just open the file straight into Illustrator. I've tried PSD, JPEG, TIFF, and PNG without success. This morning I was redrawing old logos for a client, and this afternoon I can't open anything that is rasterized.

Jan 21, 2013I have this idea to place a raster image from Photoshop into Illustrator, and to have an array of Illustrator shapes over this placed image, to clipping mask the raster image with the shapes, and then to move the shapes individually, each one retaining it's section of that raster image which it clipped.
I believe I'm getting the clipping part to happen, but when I move the shapes with the Direct Selection tool, the clipped contents doesn't move with it.
I think that all of my shapes, taken as a whole are clipping this raster image...am I barkin' up the wrong tree here?

Mar 22, 2012I have written a small application in .NET that gives color to Illustrator files.I have a layer with 100 color items (paths with a fillcolor). Each one has a unique name. Through that name my program looks them up, takes the fill color and applies that color to another path.Recently there was a change in Design, the drawings that I had to provide of a Fillcolor were no no longer pathitems but rasteritems (imported from photoshop). I thought ok no problem instead of setting the Fillcolor property I'll use the Colorize method on the rasteritems. It worked fine but now and then I came across a situation where raster-item didn't get the color. After digging in to it I saw that it was because some colors are Pantone colors and the colorize method on rasteritems only takes RGBColor or CMYKcolor objects. How to do it with the pantone colors?

Illustrator :: Change Colour Of Pixels In Raster (PNG) Image?
May 29, 2013I have just begun using Illustrator CS6. I have a very simple image (.png file) that I would like to annotate with some arrows and some text. This file is what I guess you would consider a raster image (no vector graphics) that has a very limited color range. It has less than ten basic colors plus a gradient fill (shades of gray) in a few places.
I want to use illustrator to annotate this image with some lines with arrows and some text, but first, there are a few stray lines that I would like to eliminate. For example, there is a black line that I would like to "erase" by replacing all the black pixels in this line with white pixels. I tried to do this by selecting the "Paint Brush" tool and then selecting white as both my fill and my stroke color. After doing this, I position the cursor over the pixels I want to change but the cursor appears as a circle with a line through it, and it doesn't do anything.
