I want to learn how to use Illustrator since most of my graphical knowledge is for photoshop and flash. Since Illustrator is a great vector program I'd like to learn how to make them. I've searched all over the internet for tutorials on how to use the program and to make vector art but I havnt been able to find any good tutorials. Can someone point me in the direction of some good tutorials on how to do vector art? Or if someone wants to write a tutorial on it ...
I'll omit the long background --- suffice it to say I did this once and need to do it again, but can't recall the toolchain / workflow I used. Â I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?
I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.
I was messing around with the fire technique (its awesome) and I was wondering if there are any tutorials out there that go over smoke as good as this site's tutorials went over the fire. If anyone could post me a link to a good smoke technique page it would be greatly appreciated. I notice that eSJayBee posted a thread called "Anyone care for a sig" and the smoke in that looked awesome,
I'm just starting out a professional fashion photographer and want to learn how the pro's retouch their work. I know the basics but where do I go from here?
i am hoping to learn to paint with photoshop but can't seem to find a good tutorial. I don't have a tablet so mine never looks as good as theirs does. Can someone tell me where i can find a tutorial by someone not using a tablet.
Also, those speed things don't help because i can't tell what they are using. If no one can find a tutorial by someone using a mouse, then any good tutorial (that i could still follow with a mouse) will do.
i'm trying to do is use a gradient. i want one side of the gradient to be one color, then the other side to be clear with no color and/or have an image on that other side kinda like the example image that is provided below.
Formerly using other image software, I have just loaded up CS2 and have a quick project to output that has about 1,000 images in it. All the images need to be stretched width wise by about 133%. Can someone direct me to a quick way to do this on ALL the images quickly instead of one by one as I did with my old software? The images are all .BMP's
Also, and second to the above, if someone can direct me to Adobe CS2 tutorials either free online or purchasable on DVD that would be quite helpful.
i am just looking for some tutorials that can show me how to do graphics design using photoshop. Most of the books show how to use PS for image manipulation, but i want to learn how to design attractive graphics.
Anytime I try to cutout a piece of an image and paste it into another image, the final result always turns out bad. It looks exactly like what it is...a cutout pasted onto another image.
Are there any good tips or tutorials on what to do to an image cutout to make it blend more seamlessly into another image?
I ve bought PS11 and when I get to the Video tutorials Page I can roughly understand what the Instructors say because they speak way too fast for my italian ears and cannot make much of what they say.
My question is this; how can I slow down the audio in a Tutorials? I m sure Adobe has ways to reduce the audio in their tutorials.
how to use the airbrush or the other painting tools to duplicate reflective surfaces manually like gold, silver, platinum, copper, bronze, etc?
I would like to take for example a line drawing and duplicate a golden belt buckle, ring, gold chain, a chrome bumper, anything like that. I have experimented with gradients and trying out the airbrush, but it doesn't seem to get the effect I'm trying to apply.
This is really an Illy question directed to Sir Scott, but if anyone out there has some Illy prowess, please chime in. I'm referring to Scott's example in post #6 of this thread.
I can create a dot pattern, no problem, creating swatches, patterns, or using blends, but where I'm hitting the wall is the gradient effect. Tried opacity masks, but that doesn't cut it. One other question I have is, what technique would I use if I wanted an offset dot pattern, say 45°.
I have only just got into using illustrator, after using photoshop for ages and getting bored with it, I have just made a vector image taken from a stock photo >here< at the moment it consists of 4 layers, one background white layer, a layer which has all the colour fills on, a layer with the outlines on it, and a final layer with some touch ups.
I realise now I should have made it in a much bigger size as I have been working on it at 400% and then scaled it down again on the nav and it just looks pathetic.
is there a way of resizing it as it is? or would I have to mess around with different progs and file formats?

Whenever I try to copy paste a vector from Illustrator (CS6 64) to Photoshop (CS6 64) I get the following error: Â I'm on Windows 7 and have my Scratch disks set to non-system drives. Have checked permissions and nothing is Read Only. Â I can paste as Shape and Shape Layer but not Pixels or Smart Object.
I would firstly like to apologise if this topic has been covered in depth but i am desperately looking for the right book/s as a Christmas present to ensure that my girlfriend learns Photoshop CS2 with ease. I have some experience in Photoshop and have been doing an IT degree here in New Zealand for the past 4 years but I’m not a designer so i really need your guys help!
I also appreciate that there are so many books out there but have found that some don’t go into enough depth or lack the variation in examples to significantly cover what photoshop has to offer. I was initially thinking that a couple of books might be necessary to take her from beginner to advanced.
I used to be able to copy a shape in Illustrator, paste it in Photoshop, and then duplicate the shape layer, removing what I wanted from each layer.
Now that doesn't seem to work, and what's worse, strokes are all messed up - if I apply a stroke to the whole layer, it isn't all visible. If I delete parts of the layer that are unwanted, certain pieces remain invisible, even if I apply a stroke (and fill, for that matter).
The item is in full color on Illustrator as im designing it... Â as soon as I Drag it over to photoshop it renders it in a diffrent mode...and blacks the image out leaving 1 color. Â I am in the same mode in both documents.
How can i open up in Indesign or Illustrator photoshop's vector layer. If i pool out this object from Photoshop to Indesign or Illustrator this is rendering object. Why? It's vector object!
I'm on this project that i need to digitize an old artwork. It requires vector (AI) & shading (PS). Â I have all line art done in AI. There's like 50 layers on it. The original artwork has "shading" and "highlight" on it used by Air brush. Â I just want to import all the layers in photoshop at once. It will be time consuming if i do it one by one SO is there any way that I can transfer all the vector path from AI to PS? Â I tried Meshtool and its hard to control. Unlike in Brush tool in PS, I got the freedom to adjust the opacity, softness, etc.
I am making myself a logo in photoshop. I have made all the letters that will be used, but they are all seperate entities as most of you who have used vectors know. I would like to interconnect the letters, as well as an angel I have made to go above the letters. My question is, how can I join two seperate vector images into one vector image. For example, joining a letter E with a letter D. I wonder if theres a way to do this without having to delete part of each image and then re-draw, which is a pain. Sorry if this isn't really clear, but its hard to explain.
When we try to open smart objects from within Photoshop CC, they're looking for Illustrator CS6. On machines where Illustrator CS6 is uninstalled we get errors. All the file associations in Bridge are correctly set. Is there a way to change the file associations for smart objects?
Photoshop CC (Newest update) crashes every time I double-click on a vector-layer created in Illustrator! I was designing a business card as usual and copying some vector images from Illustrator, but when I tried to enter some text it came up blank...the color shows a question mark (?) even after I attempt to change the color.
I've seen the question mark before but all I needed to do in the past was select that little button and change it.
