I'm trying to make a 3D cross section of a building in Illustrator CS5 and I've gotten a lot done already, but now I cannot transform the objects in 3D perspective space.
See Attachment: I can draw and position them in perspective, but when I select the "Perspective Selection Tool (red)" and select an object, the handles in the corners / sides are not visible anymore (blue).
I've came across a thought, how to transform a grouped object. like in Photoshop when we use the distort transformation, we can manipulate the corner points for a particular occasion. Here in the example I have 3 rectangles one smaller than another, and I I have grouped them. Now I'm trying to figure out a way how to adjust the shape into the grey one. I have used the free distort tool, but does no justice. because there is no preview so I cannot see how it adjusts. I'm only after the equivalent of the distortion like in Photoshop.

View 2 Replies View Relatedresizing objects by changing the width and height values in the Transform window, while keeping the proportions of the object? When I try this in CS6, the proportions of the object gets totally botched.
This is what I do:
1. Draw a straight line that is rotated some 30-40°.
2. Select the line and click in the W: or H: fields in the Transform window.
3. Make sure that the "Constrain Width and Height Proportions" button is selected.
4. Press and hold the up arrow key on the keyboard.
5. Watch how the line is rotated as it is scaled.
I notice that while I'm pressing the up or down keys, the number in the selected width or height field is incremented nicely (21 mm, 22 mm, 23 mm, 24 mm, etc.), but when I release the key, it is adjusted to a seemingly random number (for example 24 mm -> 24.168 mm). If I switch between pressing up and down for some time, the adjustment can be even more random (24 mm -> 58,944 mm).
I recently upgraded from CS3 where this type of scaling worked flawlessly. I'm using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.7.5.
New to Illustrator, coming from CorelDraw background, wanting to notch up a lvele or two. I am trying to make a series of business cards, for some people in the same company, and thought I should make new artboard for each business card, but somehow duplicate common text and graphics on all of them. Is this possible with something lika a Transform dynamic effect?

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen I wanted to flip an object and it lost its shape that I could do something like go under Path and Convert to Object or something to that affect (I took Inkscape off my pc to make room or I would go check).
I made a Fork at an angle which I've decided I don't like (it took me forever to get it just right), and when I change its placement it looks quite odd and loses its proper perspective/shape.
I'm missing transform handles and unable to edit objects or text boxes in Illustrator CC. How do I fix this?

The only way to select more than one line for a command is to hold down the shift button and then select more lines. I think someone was playing around with the computer and must have changed a setting?

It is really great for creating a new presentation of product. However, if i must rasterize SO i loose this feature/possibility.
What I would like to do, for a logo I'm working on, is to add [what I call perspective] a "turn" or angle to the elements of the logo. If you imagine a couple of diagonal lines running north and south at a 45 degree angle. They are separated and meant to resemble the outline of a road.
Now I would like to add elements to the surface of this "road" and have the perspective be correct - as if they are laying on this surface.
I need to find a way to add "perspective" to grouped objects that include a bitmap and other drawn objects. I can convert everything to a bitmap in needed. What I need this for is I engrave this grouped artwork onto drinking glasses and I have to adjust the artwork for the differences in the diameter of the glass. I need to be able to set the width of the top of the artwork with a numeric value and the bottom with a different numeric value.
An example of the problem with the engraving is that if I wanted to engrave a one inch square half way down the glass I would have to make the top of the square 1.1 inches wide and the bottom of the square 1.2 inches (the math is not right with this example) so a trapezoid turns into a square once engrave on the tapered glass.
The image below shows a sample of the artwork I need to engrave. The right side image is an exaggerated example of what the artwork would need to look like to work right once engraved. I could only adjust the black ring but not the text or image in the center. The third image is to show a trapezoid.
The previous version of PS CC had been working fine for me but today I installed 14.1 and I started noticing that when I would select an object and then hit "control t" that not all but many of the layers would kick back this response "Could not transform the path because the selected portion of the path does not enclose any pixels." Many of these are images and text. I don't see the problem happening with vector shapes. The one work around I found was to turn on the "Show Transform Tools" in the select tool panel.

When I try to scale down a Smart Object, by using the Free Transform tool, I get over-sharped edges. Mind you when I do the same on a raster layer I can overcome it since there is an option box where I can choose interpolation method.

Apart from the fact that I believe that this is a pretty strange decision to remove an existing feature… Any workaround for that (apart from installing cs5.5...)?
I need to somehow be able to export my slices to swf. As far as I know, the only option to export slices is via the save for web dialog, but this dialog only offers pixel graphic formats, so now way to use fireworks or what ever to convert them to vector swfs…

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to save art for printers by using Adobe PDF. Worked great. Now, for some reason all of the art I save under "Adobe PDF" automatically opens in Photoshop. I don't know why or how to fix that. This causes rasterization of my images and it appears the PDF is saved in Photoshop, not Adobe Illustrator. How do I fix this? I don't remember changing anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI must have hit a hotkey or something because now when I drag select vector and text and copy paste inside the same document it only pastes unformated text back without any vector.
When I use create outlines on the text it copies fine but if Im just copying everythign together or only the text object I get unformated text back.
If I click on an eye symbol the symbol disappears, but not the elements on the screen like you should expect. There's also a weird behavior with the lock symbols. If I lock a layer, I can click the paths anyway. The lock symbols doesn't work anymore. The whole layers palette is useless now. I tried to remove the whole "Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings" folder, but that had no positive effect.

I'm working on a sticker with a Big Ben style clock on it. I've created it using the 2-point perspective ability in Illustrator. Unfortunately, I've decided that I want it to feel "taller" than when I started, so I need to shift the perspective. However, when I use the Perspective Grid Tool and adjust the ground or horizon line, it only adjusts the grid, not the artwork. Is there a way to have the artwork adjust with the grid so that I can move the artwork around in 3D space to find the right perspective?

I am having trouble makeing this look right when the perspective is skewed a lot (see right brick wall), the left brick wall isn't too bad. I used an envelope mesh 1 2 rows and 1 column. Is this the only way to preserve pattern when skeweing an object?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI often want to extrude 3D type the non-realistic way -- that is to say, type untilted, with the extrustion extending geometrically in some direction (like 45 degrees) with no perspective illusion. Is there a way to automatically do that in Illustrator?
It seems the 3D Extrude feature requires that the type be angled for the extrusion to be visible.
I read somewhere that it is possible to tilt the whole perspective grid (like rotating), using the Horizon Level and Shift/Alt. This is not working for me. How to tilt the perspective grid.
