View 2 RepliesI have the Creative Suite 5.5. Illustrator starts, but trying to open (.ai or .pdf) or save a file causes it to crash.
I have deleted the preferences folder.
used uninstaller to uninstall complete Creative Suite package. Used Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.app afterwards. Reinstalled. Still it crashes.
Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro all seem fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a layered vector drawing of an iMac. Sometimes I want to take a screen grab of a website I have created and place it within this vector to put on my website as part of my portfolio.
To do this I use the Apple screen grab command, then I shrink this very large png file and place it on the appropriate layer on my iMac vector illustration. The trouble is it looks terrible once it has been shrunk down to size. You can not read the text or the url properly...
I see websites all the time that have this type of thing and the image looks great. Any tips on how to do this?
FYI I'm working off a 27 inch mac screen, so my captured png image is always huge. The quality is getting lost when I reduce the size of the placed image in Illustrator.
This is what mine look like:
After the last couple updates for Coreldraw X6 (now running at v 16.4.0.1280) my version of Draw has been crashing when-ever I go to open any of our custom templates. The templates are rather complicated, and we've been using them for years... probably since Coreldraw 7 or so, and they've gracefully worked with every version of Corel up until now.
Each model year we create a new version of the template with the new model features and file the old ones away, which also ensure that the version of the template is not too old... ie, not still trying to work with CD7 files in CDX6.
I tried doing a workspace restore (F8 at start) and that would allow me to open the template through the File -> New From Template menu the first time, but once I had my workspace set-up again, the next template would crash Coreldraw.
Opening a template via the standard File->Open menu does not crash Coreldraw.
I've now figured out that if I close the Object Manager before opening a template Coreldraw does not crash.
There was also a similar problem with importing some components that we had created as separate files, and with the same result... if the Object Manager is closed the files import alright.
I understand that there may now be "bad objects" in the file that upset the import feature, but I also don't think I can mine my way through 1940 objects (29436 points) in each template to find the issue.
I've found an issue with 3ds Max 2012, when I open/upgrade my 2011 scene, max will crash immediately and every time. I used a 'binary search' approach to figure out what part of my 2011 file/scene was failing to import by exporting half of it, importing it and seeing if it crashed, if so, I'd split that half in half again and repeat until I got down to the offending object. I managed to get down to a single Loft object, which when exported (Save As > Save Selected) just on it's own would cause 2012 to crash on opening it.
It's not a biggy for me as I can just delete the offending object and carry on.
I'm not quite sure why there isn't a try-catch block around the entire import/load file function inside 3ds max, so that if/when max exceptions it won't bring down the entire application? I guess making this a safe transactional operation would be fairly difficult.
I've been sent a layered PSD of a website design by a client. The file contains bitmap images, text, simple shapes and smart objects. We're going to create an animation using the design and therefore need to produce a vector version of the design in Illustrator (except for the bitmapped elements which we have large format version of).
is there a way of taking the layered PSD in to Illustrator which will convert as much of the design as possible in to vectors (including the smart objects), make the text editable and save hours of our time having to rebuild the site pretty much from scratch in Illustrator.
Ive imported it in already as an experiment. Although quite successful, none of the smart objects convert to vector and it looks like all of the text is un-editable and some of it causes missing font messages even though the fonts a definitely there.
I run Illustrator CS6 on windows 7. Every time I try to start a new file or try to open a existing file the program crashes.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to prevent Ai CS5 from re-opening documents after a crash?
I think a specific document is causing Ai to crash, so after Ai crashes, it tries to re-open the file when I restart Ai, then it crashes again - ad infinitum!
I'm not that fluent in Photoshop. I have a PSD, see here: [URL] . I want to open this in Illustrator so I can print it on my vinyl printer. I need to be able to have this as a vector.
When I open it from a .eps, .pdf, whatever, I get some of the text as vectors, but everything else is some sort of image on 1 layer.
See this screenshot:What I did in the screen shot is take the layer that has most of the items, all together, not vectored and dragged it to the left for you to see.
I have a question about the layers I created in photoshop and I would like to open as a vector in illustrator.
The layers in photoshop as a smart object are done in pen tool.
The question is a little confusing, but what I'd really like is to take an art that I created in photoshop pro after effects, as a vector. Only when I open the AE, rasterize all layers and can not work by increasing the elements.
Hence I wonder if I can bring all these elements created in Photoshop vector shape in Illustrator pro.Without me having to "redo" everything in illustrator.
can i convert a non layered file to a layered file bases on used colors?

1.Problem is if i use the ruler it shows that my image is only about 40mm wide even though the size boxes at the top clearly say it is 50mm?!!! see image
2. Is there an automatic way to fill apage with a specified sized image eg labels as the Impostion tab maxes out at 4x4(16up)?
My main user folder on the iMac is set to be shared (read/write, including all enclosed files) with my MacBook Pro. The job is a series of one-page InDesign files (they are newspaper advertisements). The IDD files contain a series of Illustrator files with linked PSD files. The idea is that we can both work on the .idd and .ai files in the same folder at the same time.
It's all working fine EXCEPT that whenever an .ai file is opened on the MacBook, Illustrator doesn't know where the linked PSD files are. We can update the link, but when the .ai file is then opened on the iMac and saved, the same thing happens the next time it is opened on the Macbook.
I don't want to embed the PSD files into the .ai files as sometimes I have to modify them and they can be linked to up to 20 .ai files.
G5 iMac OSX 10.7.5 / Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.2 / networked via FireWire cable / file sharing on, laptop user has Administrator status, all files are read/write, permissions include all enclosed files / CS6

When exporting smaller sized files (e.g. jpegs with 1000px width limitation), some of them are 1px shorter (999px in this case). It does not seem to affect files around 2000px export size, so it might be linked to the fixed export problem with output sharpening and noise reduction (URL...)
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to export a PAIR of vector files as PNG-24's, one at 72 ppi and the second at 150 ppi, Illustrator CC.
I also want both exported files to have a different SIZE that their existing (and of course, completely arbitrary) vector dimensions.
If I use Save for Web in Illustrator CC, I can indeed change the size, BUT I can't specify a resolution!
On the other hand if I try to do a File > Export, I can easily specify the resolution as 150 ppi, BUT I can't change the size!
If I go 'way back to my Illustrator CS4 version, there was a toolbar display of the selected object's (or group's) physical dimensions - see the attached image - but I can't seem to find it in the CC version of Illustrator.
As Retina resolution images have been around for several years, it would be useful to be able to have complete control over how vector images created in Illustrator could be output at 150 ppi AND with the ability to specify the physical size. And, being able to write an action to export the pair of different resolution images would be even better.
why in CS6 some vector files have this odd outline around shapes. It's visible when editing the file, exporting the file & placing it within Photoshop as a smart object.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am printing super high res images onto fabric. My print guy has instructed me to create my images in 1440 dpi and my fabric is 58 inches wide and about 80 yards long. I need to create ONE image so they can just print it continuously along the whoe piece of fabric. So I need to create a REALLY BIG image. They have recommended Adobe Creative Suite, but of course I want to do it with GIMP.
Just today, I installed the latest GIMP, and it doesn't seem to be letting me create even a 58x72 inch image in 1440 dpi. Is there an add on or a way that I can create huge tiff files in GIMP?.....or do I have to shell out the cash and get Creative Suite?
Even though they are saved as AI. On other computers it opens properly. The few files I can open, I can't select using the selection tool because of a clipping mask I cannot get rid of.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Illustrator for a few year now, but I've never had this problem before. Recently, I went to open up some files I had been working on. The problem was, when they opened, the files were blank. There was nothing on them.
When I open pdf and eps files, they're fine, it's just ai files that open up blank.
I ran a quick test where I created a new file and saved both as an ai and eps file. I closed it and quit Illustrator. I then re strated the program and opened the test file, and lo and behold, the ai file opened up blank, but the eps file was fine.
I'm on Mac OS X, running Illustrator CS6
I installed a OKI C301dn printer this week, thats when the problem first occured (not sure if the printer has anything to do with the problem, but it's the only 'change' i made) Most .ai files will open normally, except the one I need. The specific ai file (contains a linked jpg and a linked psd file) opens normally on my other machines (Mac and Pc) I removed the printer and CS5, used the Adobe cleaning tool and reinstalled CS5 but the problem remains. (I also did a memory check, registry clean) I'm using Win7 64bit on a i7 system with 8gb

View 3 Replies View RelatedI posted another thread yesterday trying to figure this issue out. Illustrator does NOT actually crash, instead it hangs and simply becomes unresponsive when trying to open a handful of files. I have been reading other threads similar to this and have addressed all of the issues that seemed to have resolved the problem for other people, i.e. reset preferences, reinstalled illlustrator several times and removed preferences, etc. I do have a Wacom Bamboo tablet, but I have removed the driver and files from my Mac. But, it seems odd that the Wacom plugin would cause only a select handful of files to become unresponsive. I have a lot of work that needs to be done but I can't take a step further without Illustrator working properly!

i have a Mac OSX V.10.7.5 and 3.4 GHz i7 8GB Ram.
Indesign and Photoshop open files very quickly, but illustrator while opening any type of file—whether it's an AI Cs6 file or EPS file or SVG file—there is at least a 20 second delay.
I have a user that is attempting to open multiple files at once in IllustratorCC. When you select multiple files and right click -> open, it only opens one file. If she double clicks a file while there is a file open in illustrator, nothing happens. The only way she has found to open multiple files is to go to file->open->browse to location for each file. This is quite time consuming. Is there anyway to enable being able to quickly open multiple files similiar to how older versions of Illustrator did?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had this problem so much I have switched back to using CS5 Photoshop when I handle layers. For some reason when I have a multi-layered photoshop file in CS6 and I try to save - it gives me a program error. This doesnt happen all the time just when I have been working on a document for a long length of time ( maybe something to do with auto save?) The only way I can save the file is to flatten but then I loose all of my hard work and layers!
