View 2 RepliesI am attempting to draft a shape that begins as a protruded rectangle. The shape then continues as a protruded rectangle that bends and conforms to the shape of cone. That may have been confusing. The profile does not change in shape to a cone. Lets say I want to do a sweep, and use the rectangle as the profile. I pick a path that was project wrapped to the cone, and the cone as the surface. I have trouble with the outcome.
I get all kind of open loop errors, and stuff with the paths, oh and also I get an error saying that the the path is not tangient and continuous. I have spent hours trying to go at it different ways. I tried using rails and I still can't get this sweep to do what I am wanting it to do. The rectangular profile has to be perpendicular to the cone surface as it follows it for the outcome to be correct. I have attached the file.
After installing an update to Illustrator 17.1 from the Cloud a few days ago I've noticed there is a significant hit in the performance. It runs really slow! Even with simple documents with just a few layers. I opened more complex ones and it's super painful to work. I have to wait a few seconds when selecting or moving a layer. I really want to go back to CC 17.0, As for the system I have the newest Mac Pro form the previous generation (before the trash can model) - Intel Xeon 6-core 2x2.4 with 28 gb of memory ram. Running Mac OS X 10.7.5. Graphic card: ATI Radeon HD 5870.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAI6 is very slow on some saves. Nothing fancy with this file. No gradients, no clipping masks, no placed images, simply color line art. I run a Mac Pro with 16Gb ram and Tb raid drives . I've had this problem with a few other files and I think in CS5.
View 3 Replies View RelatedStrange behavior: I've noticed that scrubbing the Color Picker in Illustrator is VERY slow on OSX compared to Windows.
Here is Windows for comparison: [URL]
(It's hard to show fluidity in a GIF, but believe me, on Windows, this is silky smooth)
However, on every single OSX machine I've tested, dragging around the color picker has terrible lag.
I am looking to slow down my animation between frames. Is the only way to slow it down by adding additional layers? There is two slides that I have rotating, but they are moving too fast and I would like to slow it down. I have a limit of 250KB and if I add any more layers I'm up to my limit.I have a gif file as the background and the two rotating slides are text....
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen i turn on overprint mode illustrator redraw is super slow. I made real siple file with two boxes from what one is overprinted. When i turn on overprint mode and try to move one of the box it will take time to redraw it on the new place and there is no drag view at all.
I need to use overprint mode quite often and its not an option right now with so slow redraw. Do i need to go back to use sc5?
I think I've got lots of existing files coming with this problem, the file is really slow and I try to use below method but it didn't work, since there's thousands of script "%AI8_BeginPluginObject" in that AI file.. Any other methods I can use so as to fix it.... and I'm using CS5 version, [UR] .....
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am working on six very similar map documents. They all are moderately complex with layering, drop shadows, and some placed raster files. I have linked rather than embedded the big tif raster files.
The confusing thing is that some of the illustrator files save in 2 seconds, and some of the files save in 2 minutes.I have compared all the settings, and I don't see what I'm doing different on the ones that take a long time to save. All big placed files are linked, not embedded.
The only clue showing a difference is that the files that are taking a long time to save are about 200mb in size. The files that are saving quickly are about 1mb in size.
I've encountered a problem which is a first for me with Ai CS4, and that is I'm working on a cat illustration but I'm drawing hairs using a brush I've made that have anywhere from 4-5 strokes with multiple colors to mimic the look of hair. Everything was working fine until I used the hand tool to move the artboard around and the image pixelated a bit. Zooming in/out takes a bit of time as well, and then drawing any further strokes from a fresh boot now that I've saved my progress seem to be cached, then appear slowly one at a time afterwards.
I've got a Macbook Pro with 2.4ghz i5 cpu, 4gb ram, running osx 10.7.5. I'm wondering if I'm pushing the limits of the intel integrated graphics card. I have a Mac Pro at home with 8gb of ram although I learned recently that Ai CS4 only utilises 2gb of ram max. Regardless, my tower at home has a dedicated graphics card, ATI I believe.
System monitor reads 346mb free, 920mb wired, 2.03 active, 750mb inactive, used 3.66gb.
Trying to narrow it down to being operator error IE: too complex for Illustrator, or possibly the laptop hardware. I'd love to get back to work on this project of mine
Consequently the artboard size is 11.49in x 14.92in
When I close one page, it's VERY slow to allow me to open another...

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs my illustrator running slow? I have an i7 3770K, 16gb ram, gtx 660i 2g, h100i, ax1200i and maximus formula v. I'm running dual 24" 1920x1080 monitors. File size is 800x600 pixals with 5 layers and 100+ paths in each layer. Is the program running slow because the file is too big or is there a problem with illustrator?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using windows 8. OS Version is not related to this issue I think since I'm using both CS5 and CS6.CS6, compared to CS5, scroll increment is just too small, and there's no option for this in CS6. It is a real pain while zoomed in.
View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to improve Illustrator (CS6) performance on a photo-heavy document.
The document is best described as a "catalog" style piece. It contains 2 artboards (front and back) with approximately 30 item images on each side.
When I work on this document, after every click, tool selection, or almost any action, Illustrator "sticks" and goes to "Not Responding" temporarily, then becomes stable again for me to perform a function - then it will stick again (and repeat).

Why is Adobe Illustrator CS 6 so slow when I want save a document with many and great images. Very much slower than Freehand.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI work in a print shop that prints biggish stuff. I will frequently have files that postscript to close to a GB or more. Working on simple vector art with a few images in CC is not too much of a problem, but I still notice CC is slower than CS 6. The big problem is when I get a few 200mb PDF's, or files with layers of transparent PSD files in them etc, big busy files, then AI CC really bogs down, or frequently crashes altogether. CS 6 is MUCH better. I don't have the font issues, AI CC works fine with simple files. Saving & opening these big files is such a problem, I just save them back to CS 6, but that causes problems too, I do not want to, nor should I have to have 2 versions open at the same time.
I always try to optimize the files as best possible, but it is tough sometimes as they R supplied by the customer, and the time it takes. We save to a Windows Server 2008 R2 box over gigabit network, which I know is not best practice, but no choice with the sheer volume of files. Would B insane to try to keep track & copy them back & forth, and it was never a big issue with CS 6. I am the first victim in our office, but the other 3 Mac Pro's will B switching over to CC this week, and I know the operators will B crying.

I don't have any particular speed issue with illustrator CS6 in general. However there is a massive speed problem when I'm trying to select on object on the artboard with a single click.
When selecting a object by creating a "rectangle" over the object it works fine and normal speed. When clicking the object to select it, nothing happens for about 3/4 seconds, then the loading little rainbow circle appears and loads for another 3/4 seconds...

since I´ve installed Photoshop CS6 from the cloud with all the latest updates, the program crashes all day long, its really frustrating... I´ve never had similar issues with CS5 before. I´m running out of memory when opening a file (no matter how big!) and the program freezes, doesn´t respond any more.

My Gimp is crashing EVERY 5 - 10 minutes and already crashed umpteen dozen times already today! ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is causing it to crash! from opening up an image, using tools, changing visibility of layers, It has CRASHED at least once for EVERY action I can perform in Gimp! and it ONLY lasts 5 - 10 minutes until a crash! it EVEN crashes when it is dormant!
View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically PS is freezing up temporarily, after 2-3 minutes then it becomes usaable again until it decides to feeze again. I do most of my editing in Lightroom, and only use PS because I like to just do soem finally touch ups if needed (bit of dodge/burn) and i like to use photokit sharpener (I like to brush in sharpening with actions i have created). So, i can't say for sure what initiates the freezing. Sometiems its while trying to brush in sharpening, other times it won't allow me to save.
