Gimp 2.8, Windows 7
After I open a create new image, the cursor disappears and the last tool I choose (rectangle...) appears and the cursor (arrow) disappears. Is this standard or is there a way to exit from the tool box and use just the arrow cursor?
When I try to open a PSD file in GIMP, it breaks - the color is lost.

Is there a way to have a custom tool that executes commands where I point?
I'd like to have a tool that where I click takes the foreground color via pipette and in the same spot immediately applies "fill" with the settings the fill tool is set at.
Script pseudo code would be:
get cursor position use pipette at cursor pos to FG color apply "fill" at cursor position
Can that be scripted?

I've got a Macbook Pro running X11(ver 2.3.6) and Gimp 2.6.11 and have had no problems with either until recently. I'm a professional artist with about 5 solid years of experience using Gimp and I love it. I actually own Photoshop and spend more time overall in the Gimp. But now, all of a sudden, I have no ability to do anything it it except rifle through the menus. Absolutely nothing works in the image window because the mouse will not click anywhere inside it. Its the same whether I use the build in touch pad, a USB 3-button mouse or my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. I know, or at least strongly suspect, that its a focus issue because I can click on a menu item and drop the menu, but clicking outside the menu onto the image area does not collapse the menu! I've searched and searched and I'm at a loss. My Gimps BROKE!

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I move my mouse over my image the brush cursor is not moving and it will not let me click on my image (with the mouse) the crosshair/cursor will follow it, however the brush will not, nor will any other tools, my wacom tablet however works fine.
I thought it must be something to do with GIMP accepting input but its not going as of yet.
you've zoomed in to start this painstaking freehand selection withlots and lots of points, and when you get to the end, nothing getsselected. Then you notice that, once again, you had done a Select Allsome time ago (invisible because you zoomed in) and forgotten to SelectNone before clicking the lasso.
What do people do to avoid this? (I know the obvious answer is "rememberto check what your selection is all the time", but that's seriouslyflow-disruptive.)
GIMP could blink the image or something when you add selectionpoints that don't increase/decrease the already selected area, but Iguess that might take some time to implement.
Today I was playing with brushes and then all of a sudden my cursor disappeared from my workspace, but if I move the mouse around I can see it outside of the workspace area. I'm really not sure how to overcome this, or how it happened, a complete novice with PS. If I was using psp I would be able to rectify the problem as I've used this program for years.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy cursor appears and disappears while in GIMP as I move the cursor over the canvas. I can make the cursor appear but only if there is no movement of the cursor. It makes no difference which tool I select, the size of the canvas, or the level of zoom.
Please note that this only occurs in Gimp, and none of my other applications. It started when I upgraded from openSUSE 12.1 to 12.2. I'm assuming that it has something to do with my input device configuration, but I could be totally wrong.
I have a total of 3 input devices - Core Pointer, Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse, and Virtual Core XTEST Pointer. Both the Optical Mouse and XTEST Pointer are DISABLED. Core Pointer is the only one enabled. Enabling Optical Mouse and XTEST Pointer give me other problems in Gimp and need to remain disabled.
For the Core Pointer, Mode is set to SCREEN, a message says that 'The axis X has no curve', and the following Axis Settings:

I'm using Gimp 2.8.6.Try as I might, I'm still trying to figure out how to effectively 'merge' 3 shots of the same scene taken at 3 different exposures (using the exposure bracketing feature on my camera).The idea is to end up with the equivalent of an HDR image.

I have been using gimp now for about 2 months and have just upgraded my OS to Mavericks and upgraded Gimp to 2.8.8.
Upon doing this I seem to have lost the ability to copy/cut an image or part thereof from one open image into another... Example:
I have an image window open with a picture a car and I have an image window open with a race track back ground.
I want to copy the car from image 1 into image 2, but for some reason I cannot do this function anymore. When attempting it, once the item is copies to the clipboard and I then swap to the second image, when I paste as a new layer it pastes the clipboard from that image and not the image from the first window...

Another way I like to open is to press 'Ctrl O' and then paste the path of a folder and press return This then takes me to that folder and shows me all images inside(The same behaviour will work with any other program on WIndows) With Gimp, this is not possible .There is no path displayed when you first click Ctrl O.I've found how to get the path: click on one of the locations on the left pane and then click on the 'Type Name Field' icon - this then gives you a location in which you can type the path
it only takes a second or two to do, but it would be nice if we just could past the path name or start typing the path name after pressing 'Ctrl O' - like ALL other Windows programs!

Version 12.0.4 x64.I've removed all printers.I've done the preferences reset trick by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT when launching Photoshop.I've done the super weird ESC and CTRL+SHIFT+S described in the last link above (sounds like nonsense!). Someone wants me to make them a logo for their website, and they want a "Backspace" keyboard key underneath their text.
Is it possible to create one of these "Backspaces Keys" of my own, or is it only possible to copy one from Google somewhere and render the image in Gimp to make it look more like a logo? How do I go about doing this in the Gimp format if it is possible?

I have used gimp before with awesome results, but one thing I have not been able to find for Gimp is a tutorial on how to create an exploding effect. I am specifically looking to be able to have a picture of say a face, then being able to have the left half of the face look like it is exploding while keeping the right face fully intact. sort of like the image that I have linked.

Gimp open a multipage tiff as a multilayer image and i can edit it. But wheni save it, all layers are merged into one and i've get a onepage tiff. Howcan i save a multipage tiff?

I am trying to open this image [URL] ... that I downloaded the full sized image and it doesn't matter how many times I download it or open it in Gimp it shows up in Gimp corrupt and gives me the error "premature end of jpeg file" but Windows Photo Viewer views the image just fine! what is wrong when I open it in Gimp???
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to open an .AI file, and am having almost success. Instead of loading the whole image, it cuts off about 50% of the image, leaving just the center. I altered the rendering width and height in the Import from PostScript window and it successfully extended the image to include the right side, but the left is still truncated. How can I get this whole image to open?
I can resort to just mirroring the left and right sides to fill in the blanks, but I would really rather not do that if it is possible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a machine knitter. I'm converting images into 2,3 or 4-colors for knitting on my compuerized knitting machine. I need to have a separate "line" for each color of the image in order for my machine to knit with yarn of that color. If 4 colors, I must knit 4 times for each row, once with each color.
I'm doing pretty well with creating the needed image file of 2,3 or 4 colors, but have no clue how I might be able to create a master monster file where each horizontal "line" is essentially exploded into 4 lines, one for each color.
How to create the borders for the first row of letter in this image.

For example, I have a webdesign template in progress in gimp, but then open a new gimp window/file, get a logo, put the text in.
