GIMP :: Display Image For Limited Milliseconds?

View 3 RepliesI've been using GIMP for a while for basic website stuff. Very basic website stuff. I've recently been asked if GIMP has some more advanced features. Well, advanced put to my usual level of use anyway.
So, I thought I'd query if I could do the following in GIMP...
(1) Edit a BMP but ensure the file size remains the same?
The person asking is using the images for a specific purpose and they always have to be the same size.
(2) Open .pspimages and possibly save back as this format.
The answer to this seems to be no on the opening front anyway.
(3) Restrict the image to a very limited range of colours, say 3-6?
Again this is due to the very specific and restricted nature of the images they are creating.
I'm a bit confused with the fps in the 'playback' and the milliseconds while saving gif files.
For example, I want to save a gif in 15 fps, but i'm not sure how many milliseconds that would be.
I'm using the trial version of X5 and have noticed that the number of characters that display the file name at the top has been shortened since X3. In some cases I'm not able to even see any of my file name because I have things saved in many subfolders for organizational purposes. It appears that it is limited to about 120 characters, which sounds like a lot, but when using dropbox and other subfolders, can fill up quickly. When I open the same exact file in X3, the name is fully displayed. How to change this? Or is this possibly just a trial version thing? .
View 1 Replies View RelatedI find only limited image import options under Photoshop CS5 and CS6. Under CS3, I have a number of options which I have used frequently, regarding preview, zoom, descreening, filtering, stretch, noise removal, fading, grain, etc.
None of these seem to be available under either CS5 OR CS6. In fact, under CS5, under "FILE>IMPORT", I I don't even GET the Canoscan 8400F opton. This is pretty basic stuff, getting good quality off a scanner. Do I need to go back to CS3 for everything? It actually worked.
I used to be able to maximize a display window and then make the image fit the window and finally shrink the window to fit the image. This seems to have changed recently. What are the equivalent keystrokes to accomplish fitting the image to the window and then shrinking the window to the image?

I'm not a graphic artist, but I do have a task I would like to accomplish, so a couple of quick questions?
It's been over 10 years since I experimented with graphics software of any kind other than resize and/or convert from one format to another.
Scenario to illustrate my question:
I create a new graphic, of X by Y proportions. Create a black circle in the center of the graphic. Save graphic.
When I import the graphic into a document, web page, email composition window, etc., I would like only the black circle to display when the background is a color other than white. IOW, I want the unused/blank part of the graphic to be transparent.
I've found the online manual to be confusing to follow, since I can't easily "thumb" through the pages to see a picture of the effect I want to accomplish, and I'm not sure of the correct terminology.
I found a PDF manual for 2.4, are there instructions that cover this? I'm not really interested in printing it, or having it printed. If the manual were for 2.6, I would consider having it printed.
If I use 2 monitors to display 1 image with the image extending from one monitor into and across the second monitor, can I make a screen shot of the entire image without any break in the middle where it crosses from one monitor to the other? Will it be one continuous screenshot of the entire image, even though the image is displayed on 2 monitors?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Lightroom 4.1, but this issue has been present since Lightroom 3.0 using two different, modern ATI Graphics cards, same Sandy Bridge PC.
On any image, shot with any camera, after a few minutes the info display (image information) and the surrounding area will corrupt. It looks like there's a rectangular box about the width of the image and the height of the info display, where the border of the rectangle is made up of bits of the image, hope that makes sense.
Anyway, pressing "I" to cycle through the info display removes the corruption, but then it returns a few minutes later.
I have about 150 photos loaded into my drawing and scaled in order to perform measurements on them. I'd like to have file names of the images displayed next to the images. Is there a way to automatically display file names for all the images, so I don't have to do it by hand?
These are photos of microfossils and the all look pretty similar, so telling them apart visually is often a problem.
So, I new to this site, I I dont know how to display my signature, When i post, I have to attach. Someone tried explaining about a image hosting site, but I didn't quite fully understand?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am very, very new to Gimp. I watched several Youtube Gimp tutorials, and I noticed that most of of them displayed a Layers, Channels, Paths dialog box on the right side of the screen when dealing with layers, but I have not been able to bring up this dialog box in either Gimp 2.6 or 2.8. How I can display this dialog box?

Why might the Marquee Tool be stuck on rectangular? I can't access Elliptical or the other types.
I was trying to send a bunch of images by e-mail for my wife this morning. They were images of her jewelery she was sending to galleries.
All but 2 of them I sent as .jpg files (to keep the size lower) but 2 of them were .tif files to start with, and when I opened them in Photoshop CS2 and sized them, it wouldn't let me save them as .jpg files, in fact the save options were limited to a few formats like ,png etc.
I looked for a reason but I didn't see anything different about these files.
They were in 16 bit RGB color mode.
I saved them as .psd files and then reopened them and tried again but the formats were still limited.
The rest of the images gave me the full span of save formats.
I'm not able to work on big images with X4.Maximum size is 10000 pixels. On X2, it was 32767 pixels.[URL]
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently update my Corel VS from X3 to X5. As in X3 with Movie Factorey 7SE there only seems to be very limited DVD or Blu ray menu templates. I only have about eight possible fairly basic looking menus in either the MF7SE or X5 version of software.
Some SV tutorials I have been watching lately seem to have quite a good selection of menu templates, particularly those with thumbnails, via the drop selection menu allowing very shmic professional looking menus in VS X5. As my primary reason for upgrading was to improve the quality of the disc creation process and menus, how / where I can get additional disk menu templates for creating Blu Rays and any tutorials for menu creation techniques.
Hoping someone can help me out with this - it's been one of those gaps in my knowledge that I've never really gotten around to filling. I've looked around the net a number of times, but it's also one of those things that I don't really know what to search for. I'm guessing it would come under some kind of duotone or limited palette affair.
So much so, that I can't even find an example image to show you what I'm talking about
Everyone has seen what I'm talking about I'm sure. If you imagine a nice, sharp, black and white photo - then imagine superimposing a colour on top. So you have the same nice sharp contours and tones - except you now have black, colour shades and white - instead of grey shades.
I have a problem with Photoshop CS, working in a limited account.
Namely, in admin account PS has in 'Save As' File Types list, among others JPEG file type.
But in limited account there is no JPEG file type in the 'Save As' list, so i have to go to 'Save for Web' to compress psd file.
I presume that's something about ntfs permissions, so i assigned full control to COMP/Users for Photoshop folders in 'Program Files' and 'Common Files', but to no avail.
Is there some Windows compressor, to which PS is addressing to compress files, and if so, where it could be located? If i knew that, i could assign user permissions to it.
I'm trying to design an album in Lightroom for the first time, and am looking for very clean layouts with lots of white space for wedding albums. I found a template with two vertical images that I liked a lot, but all the options available have some sort of funky black outline around them! I can't believe they didn't just include one of the same without an outline. They really need to have the ability to develop your own templates!!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows Vista and my client is using a new Mac. We are both using Lr 4 along with Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop Elements 11.
When we export images to CS and PSE copies are created in the Lr filmstrip as expected and CS6 and PSE open as they should. Unfortunately, the images do not open in these programs as they should. We have to manually retreave them from the folder. What would be preventing the images from opening. It happens when we choose Export and Edit In...., but does not happen on my daughters computer which is operating with Windows 7.
I cannot bring up Layers, Channels, or Paths. Running Gimp 2.6.10 on a Windows 7 machine. Selecting Windows...Dockable Dialogs...Layers or Channels or Paths does not bring up a new dialog window. Also there is nothing in Windows...Recently Closed Docs
This occurs regardless of image file opened. Not sure how long this has been the situation as I have not been using gimp on the computer where this problem is occurring for a couple months. Am not an advanced user though have used it occasionally for years. All other Selecting Windows...Dockable Dialogs... actions bring up window boxes normally. Tab does toggle display for the Toolbox etc. Just Layers, Channels, or Paths have an issue and I suspect it may have occurred because they were sharing the same window box. I did reset Preferences.
I am able to readily create layers on top of a base image but without the dialog box, only have access to the last one created. Also can merge down the last new layer or flatten the image. My suspicion is gimp may be displaying the dialog box at XY coordinates beyond my monitor screen displayable coordinates. There is a configuration file that saves the last used settings that I can simply delete?
Where the output of (display ...) in a script goes when running in batch mode?

After calibration with i1displayPro (monitor in custom preset, slight changes to reach D65 whitepoint) i got a solid ICC2 profile which seems to fill the Adobe RGB space quite well (compared them in 3D).
The point where i can't get any further is the color rendering in PS and ACR, the colors are limited to a sRGB like saturation level. I´ve set my Creative Suite Color settings to aRGB, disabled Softproofing in PS.Here is what red (255,0,0) looks like: left: proofing OFF
middle: sRGB proof
right: monitor proof
I have a server running Windows 2003 and I need to have limited users be able to run Autocad LT 2012. Every time it runs, Windows Installer pops up for a very short time and AutoCAD never actually runs. I believe that the pop up is for the English Language Pack, but I cannot be positive about it. I have already read the KB article on running as a restricted user, URL.... and the environment does not prevent the user from accessing any of the registry and file locations specified. I have tried many things to get this to work, but nothing seems to do it. One notable thing that I tried was to make the user an admin, run the program, then remove them from the admins group, but as soon as I remove them, they are no longer able to run it.

Specifically - in Library mode --under folders -- there is no way to sort the folders other than alphabetically. Why not -- like most, even primitive photo editing software, can one not sort by date, time taken, place etcetc ... at least by date!!
