I'm manipulating images that are contained in PDF files...basically Cutting/Pasting images from multiple PDF files, into a single file, which also needs to be PDF format.
What I've noticed is that the exported images are lighter than the originals.
The following simple test shows this
- File -> Open import PDF file (using 300 dpi resolution)
- File -> Export export the image as a PDF
Open both the original and the exported PDF files in AcroRead or similar and then just flip between the 2 windows and note the difference in shading - basically the original is much 'blacker' than the exported version.
I'll have a look and see if there's any obvious settings I can tweak in GIMP to ensure that the exported image is at least as dark as its original
I am trying to make a a graph (in tiff format) for a journal which demands that the "line art must have a resolution of at least 1200 dpi". When i googled i found instructions to click "image' -> scale image and then change the x resolution and y resolution . But the resolutions are not in dpi but in pixels/inch. I read that they are different and 300 ppi is roughly 150 dpi. So what should i do now ? How much x and y resolution should i keep ?
I just find GIMP2.8.6 and very interested in it.I just want to make it work in Japanese. I did try below things but still don't get success.
OS:Win7 64bit, English OS.(I added keybord so I can type Japanese too) GIMP ver 2.8.6
I first uninstalled GIMP. I added variable "LANG" and value"ja" in envaromental variables for user variables and also system variables and re-start computer and re-install GIMP2.8.6. GIMP is still in English.
Again, I uninstalled GIMP.I had both English and Japanese in keyboard in Region and language setting in control panel. so I removed English key board. so now it has Japanese keyboard as default input language. Japanese(japan)-Microsoft IME.I restart computer and reinstall GIMP2.8.6. It's still in English.
Even I look preferance-Interface and language setting, there's only "System Language" or English[en_US] can be selected. no Japanese.Doesn't GIMP 2.8.6 show menus in Japanese?
I've done this before, but I'm having trouble changeing the background color on an existing xcf that has text and drop shadow. I select the bucket-fill tool but it won't allow a background color change.
I intend to change a background in Gimp. The following YouTube video ( " How to change the background in Gimp" by kyung51vincent ) shows how it is done.
I followed their instructions but for whatever reason I cannot load the two pictures into the layer box.
I started using Gimp 2.8 and while watching some of the vide tutorials on youtube I noticed that version 2.6 has different sliders than the ones on 2.8. I have downloaded the 2.6 just to to try the old sliders and honestly I like them way better because some times when I am trying to pick a size on 2.8 I end up choosing a huge size such as 1000+. There's any possible way I can chage the sliders just like the ones on 2.6? because using 2.6 would take away the cage transform and I love using that brand new feature...
How to change one texture to another . Added an attachment to show what i mean. example the snow texture, how to change just that part to a different texture.
I have a diagram scanned in one pixel mode (b&w). I want to change the line color from black to blue.
I tried this:
In the toolbox I altered the foreground color to blue. In the 'Select' menu I used the 'By color' option. I made sure the settings in the toolbox for 'Select by color' were set at default, then I clicked on a black pixel in the image. The black lines in the image became outlined with a dotted line. I then used the 'Fill with FG color' option from the edit menu. The sample color to the left of the menu item was blue. The image briefly 'repainted'. I removed the selection using 'Select' 'None' but the image lines remain black.
1 - Whenever I start GIMP I get the following Problem Report: "file-pdf-load cannot be opened because of a problem." (Note that GIMP itself loads and runs, it's just this plugin "/Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/file-pdf-load" that fails.)
2 - How do you change the language? The release notes say: "A question that often arises is how to change the UI language in GIMP, which has traditionally been a bit cumbersome. Not any longer, it is now possible to change the language in Preferences." But, I don't find that option anywhere in the Preferences of 2.8.2.
3 - How do I install the Help files for 2.8.2 on the Mac. I have searched and searched and find nothing.
On the GIMP home page it says GIMP v2.8 was released on 2012-05-03.On the downloads page it says for Ubuntu use the Ubuntu Software Centre. That only has v2.6.12 .There doesn't seem to be any other way of getting it.
I want the latest version because various posts indicate the counter-intuitive behaviour of Toolbox Window etc has changed, and it seems pointless to complain if it has already been fixed.
My question on v2.6.12 is: since there are only 3 tools in the Toolbox that I ever use,and no buttons to bring up the Brightness/Contrast dialog etc,how do I change the contents of Toolbox ?In most apps, for example Firefox, you have View > Toolbars > Customiseand can then drag and drop the buttons you use regularly from/to a pool of buttons.
I thought there must be at least a plug-in that does that, because it is so obvious, but the plug-ins registry doesn't seem to have anything like that under Toolbox or Toolbar.
I rebuild old wood working tools and frequently have a need to reproduce the original decals found on these machines. My normal procedure is to take a photo of the decal in high res, import it into gimp then use the tools available to "copy" the image onto another layer(s) in very high res. This produces a nice decal that I can then use on my machines.
The problem I am having however is that most of the lettering on these decals isn't quite a normal font. I can normally find something close, but then I need some way to stretch or otherwise modify individual letter so the fit exactly the text being copied.
I created a transparent digital signature png from a scanned original handwritten signature. It works fine for adding a signature to pdf documents with a white background.
For those times when the background is other shading/pattern, say a 'grayscale' looking shading/pattern...I want to 'adapt' the background of the signature.png to that of the pdf.
So in practice open the pdf, select an area that has different shading/pattern up to the clipboard, and make the background of the signature the same as that in clipboard; with hopes the background will 'blend' into the pdf.
I was wondering if it was possible to change the origin of the ruler?
I have a template page I'm trying to set up where I have guides placed roughly an inch into the paper. What I want to do is change the ruler so that the origin, that is point 0,0 , is at the cross hairs where the vertical and horizontal guides meet.
I have been having problems with images that I save appearing to be more saturated and have more contrast than the edit looks in the GIMP window. I tried playing around to figure out what it might be and found that when I open an image in GIMP, the image displayed in the program is less saturated and less contrasty than the original image without any changes made. When I save the unedited image, the new image looks like the old image, both more saturated and contrasty than the image displayed in the GIMP window. Because of the color change in the GIMP window, all of my edits are pointless because it is not showing me the correct outcome. My images are originally JPG format and I save/export in JPG format. Attached is a screencap. The original image/what the unedited saved image looks like is in the preview window on the right. The image on the left is the unedited image opened in the GIMP window.
In an older version of gimp I was able to set the spacing of a brush (for smudging and such) and I currently have gimp 2.8 but I don't have the option to anymore. How to change the spacing of a brush now?
I want to make a business card, for that i need to paste a illustration onto the basic layer. the illustration i cut out from a other document is too big, how can i make the selection smaller so i can paste it onto the document?
I am using a macbook pro. Every time i go to export an image I have resized, or modified, the name field does not let me use most of the keyboard. Some of the keys work but most dont in that field.
I discovered GIMP 2 days ago and I am pretty excited to get started with it. The only problem is that I am a total newbie. I would really like to change the color of this image from black to blue but how to do so and the tutorials that I have found online don't really apply to what I am trying to accomplish.
Have photos from trip to Japan and Grand Tetons that are cloudy. Is there a way to change the sky to blue. I have pictures of only sky I have taken that I thought I might be able to use as a layer or in some other manner.
I have a photo of a coffee table that's on an angle. I want to rotate this table so it looks like you're standing in front of it and seeing the front. The problem is the Rotate, Perspective, and Map Object tools don't seem to be able to do it. I also tried a plug-in called EZ Perspective, but that also doesn't seem to work.
At this point, I'm guessing you can't change the perspective of an image (up, down, left, right) because it's flat and not 3D, and no program knows what the other sides would look like. Is that correct, or can I do what I want and just don't know how, yet?
I created a smudged brush stroke using several stokes with the same paint brush on one layer. I would like to change the color of the smudge but the bucket fill keeps filling each stroke. Is there a way to make all of those strokes one image now? So I can bucket fill with one click?
How to change jersey on a NBA player. It's almost impossible to find a quality step-by-step tutorial on the Internet, especially for the GIMP. For example, I'd like to change Dwight Howard's jersey on this picture with this one.
So every time I try to change my layer replace like this (200ms) (replace) in the name field, it makes no difference when i open the image up like in chrome or anything. I also change it when I export it to default value to use for all frames, and nothing comes out of it.
