I am using a macbook pro. Every time i go to export an image I have resized, or modified, the name field does not let me use most of the keyboard. Some of the keys work but most dont in that field.

This keeps happening where I have an image, I edit it, I press ctrl+S, but when I upload the image the edited version is not uploading the original version is?? I have to save it as ctrl+shift+s. This sucks because now I have 3 or 4 of the same image all saved differently which gets to be pretty inconvenient.

As a recent user of Photoshop, I need to attach details such as keywords to an image. This will usually be a TIFF or JPEG.. I'm new to Gimp but see in the Properties category I can enter the sort of info I want but when I try to save everything this info just disappears and obviously is not embedded in the file.

I made a complicated selection, which I saved to a channel. Then I inverted the selection and tried to delete the inverse (hopefully to transparency, but deleting to a background color would be better than not deleting at all). However, nothing happens when I press the delete key, or when I select "Clear" from the edit menu. Trying to use the Cut command doesn't work, either.
After deselecting, I can get the selection back through the channels dock, by right-clicking and then choosing "Channel to selection" or "Add to selection." It appear to replace the selection from the channel properly. I just can't delete anything.

GIMP closed while I was in the middle of saving an image and is now telling me that the xcf is corrupt and that there is no usable data in it even though the file is the same size as it was before the crash. This is the third or fourth time it's done this to me. I'd include the file but this is the first time I've posted here and I don't know how

I discovered GIMP 2 days ago and I am pretty excited to get started with it. The only problem is that I am a total newbie. I would really like to change the color of this image from black to blue but how to do so and the tutorials that I have found online don't really apply to what I am trying to accomplish.

I have a photo of a coffee table that's on an angle. I want to rotate this table so it looks like you're standing in front of it and seeing the front. The problem is the Rotate, Perspective, and Map Object tools don't seem to be able to do it. I also tried a plug-in called EZ Perspective, but that also doesn't seem to work.
At this point, I'm guessing you can't change the perspective of an image (up, down, left, right) because it's flat and not 3D, and no program knows what the other sides would look like. Is that correct, or can I do what I want and just don't know how, yet?
Here's a photo of the image:

How to change the shape of an image to fit a specific shape.
What I'm trying to do is reshape a geometrically patterned rectangular image so that the printed image fits around a truncated cone. I'm trying to use the image to create a stencil for glazing a straight sided pottery cup. I know the circumference of the rim and the circumference of the base of the truncated cone so I need to wind up with the borders of the image having a convex curve at the top with the arc length equal to the rim's circumference, a concave curve at the bottom with the arc length equal to the circumference of the base, and with the end points of both arcs connected with diagonal lines equal to the length of the sides of the cup. In addition, I'd like to preserve the image in it's entirety, but distort it as necessary to fit the borders without cutting any of it out. (I attached a sketch in case my pattern shape description was confusing).

I have a large background image and I want to change (lower) the transparency of the header portion. I can select the portion with the rectangle, but after that I'm stuck. I tried changing opacity but it affected the entire image. I tried selecting Layer -> transparency -> add alpha channel, but that didn't do anything that I could see. How do I make the rectangle portion that I selected somewhat blurry?
Note: I did simply blur out the header portion of my image as one solution. But is it possible to add a layer over just the header part of the image and make that layer semi transparent?

Any way to change what colors make up an image. I have a palette of 400+ colors that I'd like the image to be composed of but I can't find a way to convert it to only use those colors. Changing the mode to indexed mode doesn't work since you can only index 256 max colors.
Is there any plug-ins or tools I am missing that can do this? (Basically it will change every pixel in the image to the closest matching pixel from a large [400+ color] palette.

what I want is for a single image that has a white background to be changed into an image with a transparent background. Just the white background, not the things in the image. (I mean like when the image is in a word document that has a black background, the image will only show the person inside it and the white background of the image can not be seen.) Is there a way I can do this on GIMP?

I'm new to GIMP. I've used Adobe Photoshop for years an years and no longer have access to the license. So I've been giving GIMP a test drive for a little while. I'm confused as to why when I apply a filter to my image or layer it changes the color to B/W or grayscale? I'm sure this is a relatively easy fix, but most filters I'm using don't have many options and I can't seem to apply the filter "as is". It always changes my whole graphic to grayscale. See "Before & After" attachments.

I have been trying (without much success) to figure out a way to change all non-white color elements on a picture to a single set color, and was wondering if that is possible to do in GIMP.
For example, I'd like to turn something like this tri-color Italian flag. To this, where the blue color is a color of my choosing.

OK I have a PNG image, black and white. I want to change it to navy and white, IOW sub 0033 for black wherever it is.
Only one prob: some of the squares are SHADES of black, and I want to sub navy for black in EVERY pixel it inhabits, however pale.
How can I do this without trying to identify and translate every shade represented? Does a filter exist for this?
Is there a way to search and replace using masks for HTML color codes or some such (don't even know how color codes work)?

I am able to change the brightness/contrast for part of an image by using, for example, the Rectangle Select tool. I want to be a little trickier though. I would like to use the rectangle select tool, but have the effect of the brightness/contrast apply 100% at the bottom of the rectangle and say 10% at the top, with gradations from 100 to 10 from bottom to top. Is this possible?

I want to select a specific color from within the image, and change all similar colors within that image to a different color. In other words, after using the Color Picker Tool to select a color from the image, I want to take the selected color (and everything in the image that is equal to or similar in color), and change them all to a different color.
I tried using the Path's Tool to create an outline in the image, and changing colors that way, but it changes all the other colors in the selection I don't want to change. I just want to change all colors in the image/selection that are equal to or similar to the selected color. How do I do this?

"Image > Print Size" really IS the command you are looking for.
The key is to pay attention to the units-of-measure shown on the Print Size dialogue box:- The "Width" and "Height" values under Print Size are displayed in real-world units (inches, mm, etc.), not image pixels.- The "Resolution" values are displayed in pixels-per-unit.- You cannot change your image's pixel dimensions (aka scale the image) from the Print Size dialogue. That's what the "Scale Image" command is for.Remember the relation between pixel and print sizes is:(print size) = (pixel size) / (print resolution)
When you change the image's print resolution, of course the real-world size (the "width" or "height" shown in the Print Size dialog) of your image will update to reflect the new print resolution -- that value is calculated from your image's actual pixel size and whatever resolution value you just entered. This is totally normal behavior -- in fact, it's expected. If you change an image's resolution from, say, 150 pixels/inch to 75 pixels/inch, this doubles the print size of your image but only the print size; the image's pixel size remains precisely the same as before. (You can confirm this by comparing "Image > Canvas Size..." before and after changing the resolution.)
And as others have stated, if you're using the image for Web viewing then its print resolution has absolutely zero effect on how it will appear onscreen (print resolution only affects, well, actual printing), in which case you'll want to use the "Scale Image" command to actually scale your image larger or smaller.

I just installed GIMP. My experience is with office suites, like WordPerfect and Sun Open Office.
First, is this the official forum for gimp.org?
I need to edit a GIF image file. I have it loaded and converted to RGB. I cannot find anything on any menu about edit a GIF file. It is basically a horizontal rectangle with text on the left and a color on the right, and I just need to replace the text and change the font, without disturbing anything else. It needs to "fit" back into a webpage afterwards. As far as I can see, there is only one layer, if that makes any difference.

I am trying to find a faster way to save my images. I shoot in raw, save raw images as jpegs after editing them in Camera Raw. I am using Photoshop CS6 on a Mac version 10.7.5. When I save, I either have to save as a copy of the exisiting image, or replace the image I'm working on. Other forums I've read said to make an action to save and create a function key to make this process faster, but my function keys aren't working, and playing the action I've created still makes a copy of the image.

I just upgraded from 2.6 and it seems this is a major difference. In 2.6 I was able to use the Save command to save to the format the file was in to begin with - JPG. I saw all the dialog boxes only once, the first time I saved; then I could use Ctrl-S and see just a fill bar at the bottom - the same bar that GIMP used for other things, like Unsharp Mask.
2.8.2 is not working that way. When I try to save I don't have the JPG option, just something called XCF which I've never heard of before. To save to JPG it says I have to use the "Export" command, which opens a similar (very large) dialog box to the Save but with the JPG option. I can save, and write over, the file that way, but now every time I want to resave - or re-Export, in GIMP's terms - I get the same dialog box, which I now have to click through all over again. I'm restoring old photos and they sometimes need lots of editing so I usually resave a lot. But having to go through all those dialogs over and over is really time-consuming.
Plus, if I try to close the file right after I've done the Export thing I still get a warning that I'm trying to close without saving and my data might be lost. Presumably this is because I haven't saved to that other format - XCF - because when I try a plain Save I don't get the warning message. But then I have two files instead of one and I have to take time to delete the XCF one.
I admit I'm no GIMP expert but I was actually starting to get comfortable with 2.6 to the point where it was fairly easy to do what I needed to do for these photos. Now I've got this save issue which has taken my comfort level way back. Am I missing something here? Is there an easier and faster way to save my JPGs and not have to deal with other formats I don't need? I've looked in Preferences but there doesn't seem to be anything there useful.
FYI, I'm using GIMP in Windows XP SP3.

I'm getting a little frustrated that elements that i copy and paste (or open) in photoshop from Illustrator do not look the same, very muted, additionally when i come to save for web they look even worse. So i can never get the colours looking like the original unless (which isn't a solution) i change them manually by increasing the contrast ect.
All my colour settings/profiles are synced, the documents are both RGB. I just can't work it out

Suspect that there may be a horribly complex solution to this invoving diving into Preferences, hiring monitor colour calibratrion gear etc, etc. Anyway here goes...
When I save files the appearance of the colour in the original pic changes when I view it in the 'Save for Web' window and it outputs the file in the preview colour.
The Save For Web Preset window shows '[Unnamed]' however changing it to 'Original' or one of the other settings (ie 'JPEG High') makes no difference. Much headscratching going on.....
