I have 32bit TGA images files and want to convert them into 32bit BMP, preserving the alpha channel (very important).
I have about 2000 files I need to convert. Doing it manually using gimp, I just open the image, save as and change the extension to bmp. I leave every other setting to default.
I need to convert from bitmap images to PNGs with the command line. I've tried looking into script-fu, but lisp is one of those languages I could never figure out.
I've tried using imagemagick, but it did not properly convert the images. The images are apparently 32bit Windows Bitmap V3 files with an alpha channel; according to a page I found on google, imagemagick will not preserve the alpha channel in this particular case. I don't know for certain if that's the actual reason why imagemagick isn't working, but it definitely isn't working. It does, however, work if done manually in gimp.
This is going to be part of a python script, so I need it to convert a specific bitmap file rather than all the ones in a directory.
I bought a Pepin press book & cd, of wallpaper patterns. They are not in the rgb mode, but the (what is it? ) CYBK? mode. When I load them onto gimp the colors are way off.
Apparently gimp converts them to rgb mode, but the colors are glaring & clashing.
We would like to use Gimp for a small set of image conversion experiments. Unfortunately, the system where we want to install and run Gimp belongs to a US Govt agency, the environment is secure and their data is extremely sensitive. So we need to get their approval before we can install Gimp. To get it, we need to provide information on whether Gimp is "US-based" or "foreign-origin". We don't have a strict definition of what either of these terms means, but I am wondering if you have encountered these questions before. Can you tell me what the geographic origin of the tool is? Do you know of any specific instances of your tool being installed at any US Govt locations with sensitive environments?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having a problem with Gimp. I am currently working on a Gif banner for a webpage. The banner itself is 728x90 pixels. It has 186 different layes as well, some of which are inside of folders. The xcf itself is complete, but the only other stage I need to complete is converting it to Indexed colors so I can export it as a gif; however, whenever i access the Image>Mode tab, the "Indexed" button isn't highlighted, and I am unable to click on it, even with the keyboard commands. I haven't been able to find a solution so far. Here's a picture of the problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a text layer with width given at its creation. When I later open text editor and enter some wider text, it is wrapped to second line. So I would like to enhance the width of the layer to prevent this. When I add width to the layer using "Layer Boundary Size" menu item, text layer gets converted into standard bitmap layer . I don't understand the logic why a text layer isn't preserved on change of its size .
Is there a way how I can adjust size of text layer without its conversion to a bitmap?
I'm running into a file conversion issue at work. I use Inventor 2008 and i need to have my assembly miodels analyzed by stress engineering via Pro/E Wildfire.
I've tried converting the assembly file to .iges and .step. However, the assemblies are jumbled in the conversion. All the parts are there, but the constraints are not. In the past, the assemblies have been small enough that the stress engineer was able to reassemble the parts in Pro/E. This current project, however, is much to large to do so.
If I were to purchase Inventor 2013, could I save the files with the Pro/E native file extensions directly?
Is there a way to programatically convert CS5 and CS6 illustrator files to lower versions (CS4, CS3 etc) programatically. Are there any third party tools to do it.

I have ticked the 'delete original files after successful conversion' and they no longer appear on my hard drive, only the DNG files do but the space remaining on my hard drive is shrinking? Why is my drive not reading the extra space that should be now available?

I just installed GIMP 2.6.11 on Windows 7 64-bit, then tried to open a .png file.
Alas, instead of the image, I was surprised to see an error message box stating:
"Opening C:UsersmePicturessnapshot.png failed: Unknown file type"
I have GIMP 2.6 running perfectly on Windows XP (32-bit) and never had any such problem.
Wondering before I get all involved and can't go on ...

I have installed Ghotscript but still not able to edit the .gps file. The funny thing is that in Inkscape, let alone edit it, I am not able to open it at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm manipulating images that are contained in PDF files...basically Cutting/Pasting images from multiple PDF files, into a single file, which also needs to be PDF format.
What I've noticed is that the exported images are lighter than the originals.
The following simple test shows this
- File -> Open import PDF file (using 300 dpi resolution)
- File -> Export export the image as a PDF
Open both the original and the exported PDF files in AcroRead or similar and then just flip between the 2 windows and note the difference in shading - basically the original is much 'blacker' than the exported version.
I'll have a look and see if there's any obvious settings I can tweak in GIMP to ensure that the exported image is at least as dark as its original
I'm trying to work with ORF files in GIMP and mostly I get referred to UFRaw. I've been having issues trying to get it to work as a plug-in but to no avail. I'm just starting to use the (GIMP) icon but I'm still getting errors. Below is the error message I get:

It's due to the lens distortion but why would UFRaw try to correct it?
I have a problem with 2.8 JPG and PNG files.
I have a Brother MFC-J835DW inkjet printer with an SD slot to read files to print. It will NOT read any JPG or PNG file created with Gimp 2.8.x. The thumbnails show up as a square with a "?" on it. I have 2.8.10 on a Win7 desktop and 2.8.4 on a Linux machine. My Win7 laptop has 2.6.11 and those files work fine. The win7 desktop had 2.6.11 before the (up?)grade and those files were fine too. The Linux machine had 2.6.x at one time and those files also worked fine.
I only just found out about them when I was looking for some textures on Tumblr and I believe they basically change the color of an image, if I'm right?
How can I use them?
As an example I have a PNG file which I right click. The menu appears and I go to properties.
Then click on "opens with" change button. I arrive at the top half of the opens with dialog window.
Here is the bottom half of that same window.
Gimp does not appear in this dialog. So I proceed to browse for the program gimp so that I can include it [ ":\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe"].
I select the gimp binary and return to the first open with dialog. Gimp is still not included in the selection dialog.
Perhaps the installation is not registering the software properly?? Previously I had earlier versions of gimp 32 bit installed and it worked properly.
I recently upgraded GIMP to version 2.8.4. I just attemptes to open a PNG file and the open dialogue box stayed up and the file never opened. I tried with a JPG file and had the same result.

The previous gimp opens it fine. updated to the latest and greatest gimp and now it opens the pdf file but only shows empty layers! No graphics at all. I reverted back to 2.6.11. It works fine again now. Is this a bug or is there some setting I am not aware of?

The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

in the gimp plug-in registry i downloaded 6 scm files... I hunted for folders in the gimp program folder to see if I can find any folders currently housing scm files but was unsuccessful at finding any... where am i supposed to put them?

I read in another post that having them Rasterize the file will work with text editing and presenting the colors properly in GIMP. I was wondering if this is all it takes to be able to edit/rework a PSD files in GIMP? Are there plugins I need or other steps I can take take or am I just going to have to use photoshop?

Before I start flailing around with various versions, I figured it would be best to find a place where experts reside.
I have multiple xcf files that I saved because I use the selected area in those pics in multiple photo edits... and xcf files store what is already selected... these xcf files of mine are anywhere between 20MB and 40MB... what are they so huge?
