GIMP :: Creating Image (GIF) By Drawing At Pixel Level

Nov 14, 2012

I am using Gimp 2.8.0 but only understand about 5% or less of it. (It is running on Win.7 Hm. Prm., Vsn 6.1, Sp-1.)

How can I define or adjust the pencil tool so it draws at the one pixel size in a new ".gif" work area. (That would be one pixel in the image to one pixel on the screen.) I found how to define the work area in pixels for a ".gif". The predefined pencil tool sizes (chosen by assorted dots) "went away" several versions of Gimp back as far as I know.

The object of this effort is to produce "TrainGifs" for use in other applications. Should you be interested just Google "TrainGifs" and you will be able to check out multiple site for this hobby.

GIMP :: 1 Pixel Inner Semi-transparent Border On Image?

Jun 17, 2012

I have spent hours trying to do this simple task in Gimp without luck. What I'm looking for is the border effect (without outer shadow) seen in the three embedded screenshots in this image: [URL]

In inkscape it's a matter of adding a square on top of the image with identical dimensions and making the stroke colour semitransparent and the fill colour completely transparent, but image quality suffers badly when exporting from svg to png or jpg again, and I'd prefer doing it in Gimp.

So, take image, say 100 by 100, add 1 pixel inner transparent border - how? I have seen this effect enough to suspect it's a filter option but haven't found anything in my filters.

GIMP :: How To Reverse Halves Of Large Image

Aug 18, 2013

I'm making a multiple monitor panorama and need to reverse the halves of the large image - 3840x1200 since my primary monitor is on the right.

So I can precisely select the parts I want since Select Rectangle has a precise mode in the tool options.But move has no precise mode.

Don't we need a precise mode in the Move tool too?

Not sure where to pass this along to the Gimpers, but it's the only thing I've found missing.

GIMP :: Cannot Change Image Pixel Dimensions From Print Size Dialogue

Dec 15, 2012

"Image > Print Size" really IS the command you are looking for.

The key is to pay attention to the units-of-measure shown on the Print Size dialogue box:- The "Width" and "Height" values under Print Size are displayed in real-world units (inches, mm, etc.), not image pixels.- The "Resolution" values are displayed in pixels-per-unit.- You cannot change your image's pixel dimensions (aka scale the image) from the Print Size dialogue. That's what the "Scale Image" command is for.Remember the relation between pixel and print sizes is:(print size) = (pixel size) / (print resolution)

When you change the image's print resolution, of course the real-world size (the "width" or "height" shown in the Print Size dialog) of your image will update to reflect the new print resolution -- that value is calculated from your image's actual pixel size and whatever resolution value you just entered. This is totally normal behavior -- in fact, it's expected. If you change an image's resolution from, say, 150 pixels/inch to 75 pixels/inch, this doubles the print size of your image but only the print size; the image's pixel size remains precisely the same as before. (You can confirm this by comparing "Image > Canvas Size..." before and after changing the resolution.)

And as others have stated, if you're using the image for Web viewing then its print resolution has absolutely zero effect on how it will appear onscreen (print resolution only affects, well, actual printing), in which case you'll want to use the "Scale Image" command to actually scale your image larger or smaller.

GIMP :: How To Resize Large Image Down To Signature Size

May 2, 2012

I've recently started trying to learn how to use GIMP through making signatures, and for the past 2 weeks or so, it has been going fine.

Today, when attempting to resize the large image down to signature size, even though the preview shows a good quality render, after it scales the image loses all quality. Whats more, thinking it might just be a poor image, I tried to resize previously succesful images and got the same bad result.

Here are some screenshots showing pre / post scale [URL]...

Preview there is fine, and shows a good quality render (exactly what I'm looking for)

[URL]...

This is the result

I understand that the aspect box is unticked, but even with that selected the image became distorted

I have also tried cubic / Sinc, both resulting in blurry picture.

The most frustrating thing is that the preview shows that the picture can be made that small and retain it's quality, and up until now this has not been an issue.

GIMP :: How Channel Mix Works Exactly For Transforming Pixel By Pixel In Java

Jul 26, 2012

We are developing an application using functionality of Gimp´s channel mixer with java.

Our problem is that we don’t Know how channel mix works exactly for transforming pixel by pixel in Java.

For example,

We have an image an do on it the next mix:

Output Channel = Red
Red=200.0
Green=0.0
Blue=0.0

For simulate that, we transform all pixels with Red Component *2 and 255 (maximum) if is greater.

Our problem is:

Output Channel = Red
Red=200.0
Green=60.0
Blue=0.0

How can I simulate that?

3ds Max :: How To Save Pixel Depth Reading To Image File

May 23, 2012

I would like to somehow save the depth reading (in mm or inches) at each pixel of the image through a camera viewport. Currently, I'm using this script to save each reading in inches to a text file but it is really slow. I've learnt that OpenEXR can save a single floating-point channel image. Are there a faster way that I can save all the readings (in mm or inches) to .exr file or other format that support 32 bits single channel? If not, is it possible to scale the output (grayscale) floating point reading in exr to mm. (are they linear?) given that I set the minimum/maximum zdepth range.

script:

startFrame = 0
endFrame = 50
for frameNum = startFrame to endFrame do (
sliderTime = (int(frameNum))
fname = ("H:HAND_DATAdepthh" + (int(framenum) as string) + ".txt")
myfile = createfile (fname)
rbm = render outputsize: channels:#(#zDepth) vfbff
for y=0 to 239 do
(

[code].....

GIMP :: Large Font Sizes On Base Image Of 2000x3000 Pixels

Mar 27, 2012

I've been experimenting with large font sizes on a base image of 2000x3000 pixels. I've been using a basic white type face on a dark gray background and adjusting the lightness and contrast of the white color to different levels. Also, I created the type as as png first and then brought into Gimp. When the image is at full size, the type looks fine, but when I shrink the image down, say a quarter of the size, the edges of the fonts get very jagged and look like they're breaking up.

GIMP :: Use Size Constraints For Sizing A File To Fit Large Format Printer

Mar 23, 2013

I have used Gimp a bit, and before that PS quite a bit. I have never had to use the size constraints for sizing a file to fit a large format printer. I will be getting one any day so I would like to be prepared as much as possible. When I was at another shop, the owner used one of the cropping functions to set the finish print size and then she could move the box around to locate the best print area and remainder to be cropped. She was using PS. I would assume I could do it also in Gimp, but have not found a way to do it yet. What am I missing. Even if the printer software will do it on the printer, I would like to be able to show my customer on a PC monitor what they might expect.

GIMP :: Creating Collage Image With Numerous Large Photos - Lossless Scaling

Dec 13, 2013

I want to create a collage image with numerous large photos, each in it's own layer during editing. In order to fit, all the images need to be scaled down to varying degrees, but when I'm starting out, I'm not sure what scale each image will need to be. With the default, if I shrink them too much then they get pixellated when I try to enlarge them again. Is there a way of enabling gimp to scale each image, but drop this version and reuse the original data on future scale operations (ie a "lossless" scaling operation)?

Currently I'm having to essentially create the collage twice - first time various shrink and expands til all images fit together, then start again but just rescale once to the required size.

I presume I'm correct in thinking there's no record function in GIMP yet, so I can't record my actions to GIMP then just delete redundant steps and replay...

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Surface Generation - Large Image File

Apr 20, 2011

I have created a point cloud and surface from LiDAR data.  The point cloud data was relatively large from what I am familiar with (approximately 30 GB all told), and ESRI ASC surface file (approximately 8 GB) was generated after a laborious wait.  However, when I attempt to add the ASC file as a raster to view the surface, MAP 3D crashes and loses connection with my PC (i.e. window freezes, and I have to force MAP 3D to shutdown).  My computer is fairly updated with quad core processor, 3 GB RAM, etc.  Is this not enough power to process such a large image file, or have I error ?

Photoshop :: Image Splitting

Nov 23, 2005

I have an image that's 800x16. Basically it's a horizontal strip of 16x16 tiles. I would like to chop the image up so that I have 50, 16x16 image files. Any suggestion on how to do this automatically?

I've tried recording a Photoshop Action... but I run into a problem when I have to make my selection box over by 16 pixels to process the next tile.

There's a couple of image-splitting applications I've found on the internet, and they are all buggy and crash, and they are tailored towards HTML output... which I don't need. I need more image options.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Splitting File Name In Two

Mar 26, 2013

I have an inventor part with the name “0955-P05”. To break it down the Job # is 0955 and the Mark # is P05

The code below will automatically take whatever the file name and split it to fill in the Job # and Mark #

'MarkNumber and Job Information
'Filename Convert
Part_Number = iProperties.Value("Project", "Part Number")
iProperties.Value("Custom", "Job" ) = "=" & Left(Part_Number,4)
iProperties.Value("Custom", "MarkNumber") = "=" & Right(Part_Number,3)

The code works great in till my Mark # reaches P99

I know what you’re thinking but I can’t change the Mark #s to P001 and fix the code that way. The whole company is already set up with this Mark # system and they will not change it.
