Often, especially when I'm working with screenshots, I'd like to be able to set the canvas size, and then paste in a larger image and move it to a specific point. This would allow me to automatically cut out the Windows portion of the screenshot, menu bars, scroll bars, whatever, while still keeping the actually interesting pixels in the same place from screenshot to screenshot.
In the past, what I've done is essentially to create a selection mask:
Prep:
Paste the image into the backgroundCreate a 2nd layerSelect over the interesting pixels on the image in the 2nd layerInvert the selection in the 2nd layer and fill it with a solid colorRepeat:
Make a magic wand selection of the un-colored pixels in the 2nd layerSwitch to the background and copy the selection to the clipboardWork with the copied pixels (in another Paint.Net window, or another program)
Paste the next image into the backgroundSwitch to the 2nd layerBecause of the manner in which Paint.Net handles the canvas, this workflow would be greatly simplified if I could programmatically move pixels:
Prep:
Select the interesting pixels in the first imageCrop to SelectionRepeat:
Work with the pixels remaining on the canvasPaste the next image (select "Keep Canvas Size")Shift Pixels so that the interesting portion of the image is on the canvasI looked through the entire menu structure in 3.5.10 several times, and didn't see anything that would obviously produce this transformation. I'm aware of the Ctrl+<arrow> method for moving by 10px, which is certainly better than just using the arrow keys. And I've seen references to the Panelling effect plugin which performs a similar function, but (without having tried it) I expect it would not produce the desired effect if I wanted to create negative/empty space on one or two sides of the shifted pixels, or if one of my images was smaller than the total desired area.
Is this already available in Paint.Net, and I just missed it? Or is there a plugin that accomplishes this specific transformation without additional side effects?

I am needing to deliver to a software company one VERY long PNG that contains different animated states or steps of a volume knob for a user interface.
I have 127 animated steps/states in 127 PNG files. SO what I need to do is to discover an action or automated way that I can import each file in, then move it +X amount of pixels.
Specifically it's a 40px by 40px volume knob and there needs to be a 1px space in between each state. SO... basically... that means my end result document would be a 5,207px width document (40 times 127 plus 127).
Does this make sense?
My goal is to find the most efficient way of doing this. I was able to create the many different file states from After Effects.

Somehow I must have activated an option to only be able to move any object a certain distance at a time. For example, I have a circle that I want in a certain position but I can not move it there with my mouse. Instead it insists on moving 18,9 pixels in any given direction whenever I'm moving it with my mouse. To get a specific position I have to enter its position manually.

How can I expand a border by the same amount in all directions? I have this: drawing and I want to expand the green border by 275 microns. Scaling from a base point doesn't work for what I want because then the new border is not the same distance from the old one all the way around.

A while ago, I wanted to add a border in the background color around a layer. So, I increase Layer Boundary Size using the corresponding tool. So far so good. I even wrote into a script, combined with adding drop shadow, see [URL].......
Then, I bought a new computer. I knew it. Never update or upgrade.
Now, when I increase the layer boundary size, it does increase the size of the layer, but the "border" is now transparent. I know, I know, I can fill it up using the bucket fill tool, but first of all this is annoying, and second of all, I am really wondering: what happened? Why did it work before, and doesn't it work now anymore? I am baffled. I see three possibilities:
- The GIMP installation on my new computer has some global setting differently which I am missing
- GIMP was updated and this has changed
- this is a bug, or at least a quirk, having something to do with old computer running on Win7 and new computer running on Win8

I made a text layer on top of a textured background and changed the text layer mode to grain extract. I want to put a 3 pixel black border around it that is solid with a normal mode. How do I add a border to my text without it being effected by the text layers mode? The only way that I know how to border is to Alpha the layer to selection then go to edit and stroke selection.

I have several layers in an image, and I need to align them precisely. The ordinary layer shift ("move pixels") by multiples of pixels is not sufficient. Is there a tool or plugin for PDN that allows sub-pixel shifts (i.e. moves by fractions of pixel)? And rotations by very small angles?

I have a drawing that has a white background.
I would like to add more to the white background to make it bigger without having to stretch it and distort the image.
I want to place a circle shaped outline border around the original image with a set border thickness and color and be able to crop/remove the portion of the image beyond the outline, changing it from a square/rectangle image to a circular image.
If I am not able to change the drawing to have a round outer border from square, how can I make the outer parts past the newly created circular outline transparent?

I could have sworn that in previous versions of Photoshop, before version CS4, that if there was a link icon between the layer thumbnail and the layer mask on that same layer, if you move one or the other, they both move. In CS4, how do you move the layer pixels and the layer mask at the same time so that they stay lined up?

The issue:When I ctrl+alt+right-click to select a layer, I can click the actual layer, or about 6 to 10 pixels below the layer. This latter option (the 10 pixel margin thing) is rather annoying when there's a layer below it, that happens to stick out 10 pixels underneath that layer.
It basically requires me to set the higher layer to invisible, and then rightclick again. There's a slight difference between pixel layers and vector layers, as vector layers seem to have a bigger "hitbox" than pixel ones.
The most annoying instances are layers with, for example, a one pixel line. You pretty much have to *guess* where to click, as everything is so close to eachother.I work in webdesign, and am working with pixel-perfect designs all the time, so this is something I deal with on a daily (read: every few minutes) basis.
My version of Photoshop
- CS6, update it frequently on my home PC & Work PC
It's worth mentioning that I didn't have this issue before CS6, and have been using PS for about a decade, +- 30 to 50 hours a week!
Before you claim it's the computer, the systems I've noticed this on:
- My home PC (16gb ram, couple SSD's for scratch disks, GTX670, core7 etc)
- My work PC (16gb ram, no scratch disks or fancy gfx card, core7 as well)
- Girlfriend's MacBook pro
- Her Mountain Lion running desktop (custom build, hackintosh)
+ several other PC's at work (programmers running wildly different systems and OSes)
We have several Adobe subscriptions; I have one, my girlfriend has one and at work we have about 3 or 4.So, it's probably not the computers.

Is there a way to repeat edge pixels of a layer? It seemed like a basic filter, but i can't find an easy way to do it.In liquify there is the push pixels tool with which i can somehow do it manually. But i hope there's a better (read: automatic) way.?

I have a diagram scanned in one pixel mode (b&w). I want to change the line color from black to blue.
I tried this:
In the toolbox I altered the foreground color to blue. In the 'Select' menu I used the 'By color' option. I made sure the settings in the toolbox for 'Select by color' were set at default, then I clicked on a black pixel in the image. The black lines in the image became outlined with a dotted line. I then used the 'Fill with FG color' option from the edit menu. The sample color to the left of the menu item was blue. The image briefly 'repainted'. I removed the selection using 'Select' 'None' but the image lines remain black.

I am trying to create an action that will work with some product images. Every image document I make is the same size (1000 x 1000px). The layer that I paste onto that document will always vary in size. I like my product images to all have the exact same margin. So I always use the transform command to specify that the width of any layer should be exactly 930px. This gives me exactly the same margin on my 1000 x 1000px document every time, regardless of the original layer size. I want to create an action for this to speed up the process but when I press record I hit a stumbling block.
In reality, I choose transform and set width to 930px.
Photoshop records me choosing transform then setting the width to 97% (or whatever).Percentages are useless to me as my original layers vary radically in size. I need to transform by pixels.why photoshop is recording my transform by percentage and not the pixels that I actually use?

I have a square selection that I'd like to map into a circle of equal size. I see apply lens and map object...sphere, but neither of these seem to do a proper job.
The algorithm I'm after would basically take the pixels of the square and map them onto their new locations within the circle so that each pixel moves inward toward the center until it reaches its appropriate location along the the line from the origin to its radius.
I'm about to the point to just code it in C++.

I've tried adjusting levels, curves, color balance and the heal plug-in, but I can't remove the red blocky pixels in a series of pictures that look like the one below:
How I could fix up these pictures? Do I need to use a red-eye or noise removal method? I'm using GIMP 2.6.11 .

Is there a way to get a brush exactly 2 pixels square? If i set the Radius to 0.7, i get a 3 pixel brush, if set to 0.6, i get a 1 pixel square brush. I mainly use GIMP to touch up scanned in forms and tables and most of the lines are 2 pixels which means twice as much work to correct a skewed line.

I'm working on a very small scale, and need to find a way to make an image which consists of 4 colors, randomly spread around the 16x16 pixels.
I have not been abel to get the desired affect with any of the noise filters, so I was thinking I could make 4 layers, one with each color, delete the parts I don't want and just merge them down.
Now, with such a small scale, I could do the work by hand, but I have to repeat the process at least a dozen times, and I want it to look truly random.

Im trying to vector a face.. I have traced the face exactly and filled it with a base colour.. now im going to layer the skin.. however.. i dont want to retrace the outlines of the face every time a layer is close to the border.. I want to be able to exceed the face outline with that layer.. and then use the base colour layer (that is exactly traced) to clip that layer so it has the same outline as the traced base layer.. that way I dont have to trace my layers every time I get close to the edge..

I have noticed in Photoshop CS5.1 and CS6 strange behaviour when saving for web file as PNG-24.
case1.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and layer mask hide selection (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 131.4k
case2.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and delete pixels (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 66.93k
Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?
