GIMP :: Get A Brush Exactly 2 Pixels Square?
Oct 22, 2012
Is there a way to get a brush exactly 2 pixels square? If i set the Radius to 0.7, i get a 3 pixel brush, if set to 0.6, i get a 1 pixel square brush. I mainly use GIMP to touch up scanned in forms and tables and most of the lines are 2 pixels which means twice as much work to correct a skewed line.

I have a square selection that I'd like to map into a circle of equal size. I see apply lens and map object...sphere, but neither of these seem to do a proper job.
The algorithm I'm after would basically take the pixels of the square and map them onto their new locations within the circle so that each pixel moves inward toward the center until it reaches its appropriate location along the the line from the origin to its radius.
I'm about to the point to just code it in C++.

If I am constantly making frames in photoshop for use in the video world (ie. They will be on TV) the pixels need to be rectangular (or 4x3) in aspect and not square.
I know in programs like After Effects and Combustion you can set when saving an image whether or not it is square or rectangular pixels.
How do I do this in Photoshop if it can be done?

Here are some brushes at radii 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 1, 10, and 50.I thought brush radius was measured in pixels, or would at least scale in a linear fashion, but this shows otherwise. Why the maximum brush radius is set to a (small) fraction of the full slider?
I just found the Size slider that's separate from brushes... Woops. Radius slider still confuses me, but it's not a problem anymore. I don't see a delete button around, either. :/

local library with transferring their betacam based collection into digital video files.
The set up is:
Sony J3 video tape player ( a beautiful expensive machine that plays multi beta formats SX, Digi & Standerd betacam tape)
They had this set up through a switcher which in turn is connected to a TV monitor, aVHS machine and a couple of DVD recorders. Till I came along and suggested to remove one of the DVD recorders and hook that up to an external analogue to digi video converter hooked up to a PC ( now running trial version of Corel).
I set this up for them using components they already have. Their set up was so that patrons can view their audio visual collection and I'm setting them on the path of digitising their entire collection.
Basically, when I'm capturing PAL DVD standard video files the set-up and digital converter are spitting out squared pixels...so I cannot capture in the 16:9 anamorphic. This is easily fixed of course by dropping the capture to the overlay video track and selecting fit to screen. Ideally I would like to spend some money re-jigging the set-up so I capture in proper 16:9 anamorphic (and through Firewire) and avoid the extra step. We are also then producing MP4's with the view of making them into low res viewing only lets call them proxy files (with BITC to boot (Burnt in time code))
Why oh why is it so hard to custom select a known small frame size (16:9). Picking mp4 HD is NOT an option because I'm working from SD stock. Why can't I pick something like 640x360? It would make life so much easier.

2 days on GIMP. I need to adjust the clone tool so it's 1080 pixels vertical and about 20 pixels wide. I googled and searched, but I can't seem to find the right phrasing.

Develop Module: when using brush, it often shows up as a big square. Only the actual round brush area is modified, but it is annoying to have a big square block the view. The included cropped screen shot shows the brush working on the green part of the plant - and a larger square lighter part around this.

I've been a Photoshop user for close to 15 years. I have ver. CS2 and a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core CPU 4200+ 2.21GHz CPU /1GB RAM (6 years old along with the version CS2 running WinXP SP3) I plan on upgrading this year my hardware, OS (to WIn 7 64-bit) and the Adobe Production Premium suite to CS6 (After upgrading to CS5.5 since I am ineligible for the upgrade from CS2. )
One of the things that has always bothered me in Photoshop CS2 was when I set a paintbrush or a blur brush to 300 pixels wide and I'm working even on a small 4x6" 300dpi canvas If I make a brushstroke it takes seconds to make a rendered stroke. I plan on doing digital paintings with a Wacom tablet 8x10, 11x14, 16x20" in size with Photoshop CS6.
I read that as of 2008 CS 3 Photoshop will use the GPU for rendering/processing some effects. Is this true for PaintBrush and blur tools?Granted we are talking about a 6 year old mid-level CPU and now new technology but I would like to know along with using 8 GB RAM Will this 300 pixel-wide brush lag totally change with a Ivy Bridge Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz Quad-Core?
Is there a significant difference when using Photoshop with a Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz Quad-Core since both chips are multicore which Photoshop does usI'm trying to choose my new build and figure out what CPU to get since they are $110. difference. Is is night and day with most of the CPU intensive stuff on Photoshop?

I must have fat fingered something and I now when I click on the Eraser Tool or the Brush Mask Tool instead of getting a circle or square, I get and icon of the tool instead. They still work but they're harder to use without seeing the circle or square depending on what's selected. I've been using Corel for many years and never had this happen and I can't figure out how to switch back.

I'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

I have a diagram scanned in one pixel mode (b&w). I want to change the line color from black to blue.
I tried this:
In the toolbox I altered the foreground color to blue. In the 'Select' menu I used the 'By color' option. I made sure the settings in the toolbox for 'Select by color' were set at default, then I clicked on a black pixel in the image. The black lines in the image became outlined with a dotted line. I then used the 'Fill with FG color' option from the edit menu. The sample color to the left of the menu item was blue. The image briefly 'repainted'. I removed the selection using 'Select' 'None' but the image lines remain black.

I'm trying to crop a rectangle that is slightly off square, so the cropping rectangle is either clipping part of the image or not enough of the empty space. Is there a way to clip a non-rectangular area?
The images are actually parts of a map as a specific projection, and need to be clipped non-rectangular so they match up.

I’m trying to figure out if there is a way to scale a “border” around a rectangle or square? Or, put another way, keeping an image the same size, but enlarge an inner rectangle or square without cropping the “border.” To try and add context, imagine a bezel used for an arcade machine. A border with a cut-out in the middle to view the screen. Imagine you wanted to preserve the information on the bezel border, but increase the size of the cut out.

make a rusted metal square in Gimp. I managed to google to make a square selection and fill it with a color. Now I would really like to give it a effect like in this tutorial. I can sort of get it working, but my starting square is not good enough and I do not know much about colors. How do I make a good starting square with some gradient added to it (well I can make one in inkscape and export it, but how do I do it in Gimp), and most importantly, what colors would work well and how do I give the rust a rust-color.

I'm working on a very small scale, and need to find a way to make an image which consists of 4 colors, randomly spread around the 16x16 pixels.
I have not been abel to get the desired affect with any of the noise filters, so I was thinking I could make 4 layers, one with each color, delete the parts I don't want and just merge them down.
Now, with such a small scale, I could do the work by hand, but I have to repeat the process at least a dozen times, and I want it to look truly random.
