GIMP :: Scale Image Won’t Show Inches Properly
Oct 17, 2012
I enlarged a photochrom image (which gimp converted to rgb) to twice its original size, but when I wanted to see its dimensions in inches the image scale showed 6.667 x 4.887, which is half the original size. This can’t be possible, the enlarged image is quite big. I set the resolution at 300, if that makes a difference…

how do you get the scale to show up properly in the title block? I've been searching and finding nothing on this issue, with exception of Autodesk personnel telling users to use the scale display on the views. I know it's not the "Autodesk way" of doing things, but my company has been putting the main view scale in the title block for over 30 years.
I've been using Patrick de Stobbeleir's "iProperty Collection" utility since Inv11, and it does the job. The thing that bugs me, though, is that I can't figure out how to get the FirstViewScale:x custom properties to work intelligently in my title blocks. I just use the property FirstViewScale in my title block, which displays the scale of the first view put down...no matter what the sheet.
how I can use the FirstViewScale:x property in title blocks such that x is the sheet number? So far we just have the first sheet use the FirstViewScale, and then subsequent sheets use a prompted entry (I know it's an ugly work-around).

I have my photos on a separate volume at /Volume/Users/Lightroom Photos/…
Everything works fine except when I choose "Edit in Photoshop CS6", work on the image in Photoshop then save it. It gets saved back to the same folder as the original file, but when I tab back to Lightroom it just shows a square tile with a question mark instead of the new file. Tapping on the exclamation mark reveals that Lightroom thinks the new file is supposed to be in /Users/Lightroom Photos/…
For example the dialog box might say:
“_DSC3047-Edit.tif” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
Previous location: /Users/Lightroom Photos/2012/2012-12-08/_DSC3047-Edit.tif
When in reality the original and the edit are both in /Volumes/Users/Lightroom Photos/2012/2012-12-08/ and there is not, and never was a /Users/Lightroom Photos/…
That is, something about saving back from Photoshop stripped off the "/Volumes/" from the beginning of the path. I can choose Locate and find it right where it should be and it will show up. Once it shows up the image tile shows the image but has an exclamation mark; tapping on that brings up a dialog box that says:
The metadata for this photo has been changed by both Lightroom and another application. Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk settings with those from the catalog?
This is on a Mac and so /Users does exist but that maps to /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users. I wonder if either LR or PS is confused by there being a /Users and a /Volumes/Users.
Editing in a Nik Plugin (e.g. Silver Efx) works properly, FWIW.
I am using LR4.2 and PS CS6 13.0.1 on OS X 10.8.2.

I've always drawn in mm and do the scale in this unit. Now at work I have to use inches, but I'm not very sure about what is the scale I have to use. I mean... I always do the scale with the commands Z / Scale / 1000/100xp (1:100 scale example). It is the same for inches? I have seen some drawings in inches & feet with other scales like 3:4.

I created a new annotation scale to convert mm to inches and changed my DIMSTYLE to dimension to annotative as well, but when I go to dimension nothing happens. My dimensions, arrows and extension lines are still small.
What's more bizzare is when I click the dimension and right click properties, it says my annotation scale is 1:1 and it's not set to change to annotative even though my DIMSTYLE says to. So I have to manually click the dimensions and change them all to my DIMSTYLE and change the annotation scale.
What did I do wrong when I created the new annotation scale?!?!

Also where can I find a list of the title block text options ie. ,

I can't figure out how to get my levels to show fractions of inches. I can add a dimension from level to level and see the fraction, but the level itself insists on rounding to nearest inch. View scale makes no difference.

When I use the scale tool on an image, I get that thing where I have to type in the pixels, but after I do that, and press Scale, I get the scale loading thing, but nothing happens, and the image remains the same size. It also doesn't work if I manually drag the image to size. It's only works when I type in the pixel width, then press enter, then Scale, but this makes the picture remain the same size. I also can't rely on this since I don't know the pixel size. This is what I hate about Gimp, either it's really glitchy or it's super complicated and I don't know how to fix something as simple as this. It's not the first problem I've had, and I have to close with saving, reopen everytime.

well - how to scale an image correct! I am pretty new to GIMP and i want to scale an image.
what is wanted: want to have an image with approx 300 x 200 pixel:
currently it (the image called Demo-image.jpg) has a size of approx 580 x 260 pixel.
First of all; i open a new window - (with 1080x540 pixel)
then i open my Demo-image.jpg in this newly created window - Question: should i drop in this Demo-image.jpg as a new layer or as a new picture. guess that this is pretty important. Unfortunatly i do not have any glue!?
Then i take the marker tool and mark the whole Demo-image.jpg - and afterward i choose (out of the toolbox -) the scaling-tool. Now i try to scale down the Demo-image.jpg.
If i am lucky then the scaling -dialogue pops up. Then i can see some values; height and width - What now happens is totally misterious: Whatever i do:
a. playing with the numbers (/height or width)
b. taking the demo-image.jpg with the "mouse" and tryin to scale "manually by shifting the edges...
All i do - it has no effect.

I'm working on a project involving DDS files. I'm working on the UI for the program, and we are re-writing and re-working the calls to DDS files. Part of the change is that we're changing from a pixel reference to a floating point %. However, my ruler options don't include a %. Aside from doing the math manually, is there a way to show a location on an image as a %?

[URL] as you can see in the attachment. I need to scale the boot fits into the feet properly. I have tried to do that by adjusting polygons and vertex but it doesn't make a good result. I am wondering is there any sophisticated method to exactly fit the boot into the feet without any clipping and extra space as seen in the image.

Is there any way I can scale images down in size, whilst keeping the quality of the image? I am a Media teacher having to use this software with the class and they must have high production values for their controlled assessment. However, I do not know how to get around the problem that all the work is predominantly blurred because students have scaled down the pictures resulting in horrendous blurring.

I'm using GIMP 2.6.11 on Windows XP. I use "ALT + PRINT" to capture the active program's screen and "Edit -> Paste as -> New Image" to create a new image from the captured screen.
The problem is that the new image always shows extra lines (about 3-pixel wide) on the left side and clips the right side. I haven't verified it pixel-by-pixel, but it looks like what's clipped on the right side is displayed on the left side.
But the problem doesn't happen when I do "File -> Create -> Screen Shot -> Grab a single window"; it shows up nicely.
Also even when I use "ALT + PRINT" to capture, the problem doesn't happen when I paste it to a different program, such as Windows Paint or even WordPad; it happens only when I do "Paste as New Image" in GIMP.

While I still try, unsuccessfully, to get Gimp to run on my Mac...
I'm not a graphic artist, but I do have a task I would like to accomplish, so a couple of quick questions?
It's been over 10 years since I experimented with graphics software of any kind other than resize and/or convert from one format to another.
Scenario to illustrate my question:
I create a new graphic, of X by Y proportions. Create a black circle in the center of the graphic. Save graphic.
When I import the graphic into a document, web page, email composition window, etc., I would like only the black circle to display when the background is a color other than white. IOW, I want the unused/blank part of the graphic to be transparent.
I've found the online manual to be confusing to follow, since I can't easily "thumb" through the pages to see a picture of the effect I want to accomplish, and I'm not sure of the correct terminology.
I found a PDF manual for 2.4, are there instructions that cover this? I'm not really interested in printing it, or having it printed. If the manual were for 2.6, I would consider having it printed.

why I am unable to see the linetypes properly when the LT scale is set.
For example a dashed line drawn in model space with the LT scale set at 48 normally shows a correct spacing between the dashes. It worked fine this morning, but for some reason it does not show properly this afternoon, and is a continuous line.
No matter what I seem to do, I can't get the line to show up as dashed. I "regenall", set the lt scale to 1, then back to 48, set the psltscale to 0 then to 1 (just for kicks). I've exited the drawing and come back to it, and still the result is the same.
I am using Autocad 2009.

I'm using Gimp 2.8 to change print size to 6 x 4. Original image is 1600 x 1200. So I go to „Print Size“ and change size in inches to 6 x 4 (naturally unlinking „chain“ symbol). I then save the image but when I reopen its at 6 x 4.5 and of course it prints this size.

I'm drawing a gas line (the one that says gas throughout the length of the line) and i can't seem to scale the text 'gas' properly, it seems that it is all squashing up and i cant make out what it says. I've tried ltscale, psltscale and the actual linetype scale of the line to no avail. I'm sure this is a simple problem, i just cant work it out.

Out of nowhere my AutoCAD commands such as line, offset, circle, etc will only work if i type in the amount in inches. I use feet / inches when i use these commands. It says specify second point... Not sure what this means. For example I want to offset a line 15'-8". It won't let me do that. If i offset a line at 146" it lets me do it.
