GIMP :: Reduce Size Of Window - Shrink Vertically?
Oct 30, 2013
GIMP is in single window mode. The bottom of the window extends down below my screen window, below my taskbar, so I can't grab it with my mouse to pull it up and make the window smaller vertically. I have pulled the top blue bar up as far as it will go, but not far enough - How do I shrink the GIMP window vertically?
I made a 5x35 image using a gradient that i'll use as background for a div.I saved it as .jpg. Its size now is 325 bytes. Is there any additional method to make the size smaller?
At work I use Photoshop, but at home I have started using GIMP. One problem I constantly have is the size of pngs. How do you reduce the size of pngs?
I have 400KB png, when I save the same image at home in GIMP as jpg it becomes smaller, but if I save it as png it becomes about 2MB - this is huge compared to photoshop
If I use the save for web plugin, the results are the same for jpgs, but if I save as 24bit png the image suddenly becomes 2.5MB. Why are PNGs in GIMP so large?
I found a way to save a sub 1mb XCF file with a select saved as a channel and a layer of the image as a threshold. I can open the original jpg in gimp, select all, copy into new transparent layer in the tiny XCF file, do channel to selection, delete the threshold layer and I'm good to go. I went from a 27 mb xcf to a 0.5 mb xcf with the channel and layer for a 2 mb jpg.
At my low skill level the selects are usually the only XCF elements worth keeping. Everytime I've returned to a saved XCF weeks later because I knew more, I tossed it out and started over from the original jpg unless a select was involved. I could buy a larger HD, but I'm literally living out of 2 suitcases and expect to continue so indefinably. Keeping my pile of stuff small is a prime priority. Store them online? The only internet ISPs available here are rather slow.
how do I reduce the size of an image and place it adjacent to another image. Let me explain it a bit better. I live on the Corner of two streets . A lamp post with the name of one of the streets is on the corner. I want to reduce the size of and place the image of the other street on the same lamp post.
How can I reduce the size of the Pencil tool to as little as 1 or 2 pixels? I want to draw fairly fine shadows, and have figured out that creating shadows requires smudging or blurring gradients of black-to-grey, but the default options in the Brushes toolbox are far, far too large.
I have Architecture 2009 and my computer needed to have my profile rebuilt. Now I am unable to tile my acad drawing horizontally or verically like I used too. I tried to rebuilt the file and reinstall but that doesn't seem to work. Also rather than opening at least 2 drawing (or more) now results in seperate sessions rather than 1 session with 2 or more files. What the setting is that I need to update?
I am trying to create a window block that stretches both mullions horizontally and vertically. I figured out how to get both to stretch horizontally but when I try to stretch vertically I get a really funky skew thing happening.
I just upgraded to GIMP 2.8.4 for Mac after spending months using an older version. At the bottom of the image window are tips for using whatever tool one is currently using. Unfortunately, these tips are TINY! I can barely see them! Is there any way to increase their size via GIMP preferences?
Note that I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to editing program code so if this is required I will need specific step by step instructions.
EDIT: Additionally, I've noticed that image windows always stay behind the toolbox and layer windows. Is there any way to reverse the ordering? (So that image windows can move in front of the toolbox/layer window?) With multiple image windows open on a small screen I need all the space I can get.
I've created the german battleship Tirpitz. It has about 4.2 million polygons. When i save the file as an ASCII its about 1.2 GB and when I save it as a Bin its about 650 MB. I created the scene in 3DS Max where it has a file size of about 430 MB
My question is: Can I somehow shrink the size of the file without using a zip program.
I have a requirement in my project like, I have to shrink the images which are varies in size 100 KB to the 100 MB and files extensions are .jpg, .tif, .tiff and .eps and many more like 20 extensions  Need to:
1) Shrink the images with specific width 4 inch and height 4 to 5 inch @ 300 DPI 2) re name the images in order with commonly first name same for all the images 3) save them only .jpg 4) color format should be converted to CMYK only
I am dealing with 128 x 128 or smaller. Â The more I shrink a picture the more I loose details. Â Photo > Sharpen works a little bit in some cases but in most I am loosing to much detail no matter. Â How do I fix this? Â If possible my pics need to remain in .png format
I have tried tooth and nail to use the Path tool and every tutorial explains it so simply but nothing will work. I cannot text to path.It should be so simple but it is not. I make a vertical path then select the text tool and type my text. Then hit text to path and nothing happens.Rotation doesn't give me the same quality in the final result so that's out.
In the program window, it looks like its been pushed way in on the full image in the source window. No matter what I do, I can't get it to appear the same as in the source window...
We use ACAD2013 at our office. we use xref files of other dept. to create our drawings. We mainly do piping drawings and use quiet a few blocks for fittings and equipments.
The file sizes up to 30MB and sometimes even more. Purge ( all options ) and audit were done but of no use to reduce size. Even deleted unused anno scales.
As a new user I really prefer the single window mode but have a real problem in that every time I open a filter the window/box that open opens up underneath the single window and I cant see it without minimising the main gimp window. I've played with the preferences windows management options and seem to have all the file options curves etc on top now (these were opening under the single window at one point) but nothing I do seems to want to make the filter boxes open where I can see them - It's making GIMP quite unpleasant to use.
I have Created few GIf images for website site but it not support big file size my all gif file size maximum 80 kb. i used few online tool for reduce size but after my images showing blur, I reduced file size and image still remain same. big file size take load time when upload in website, check example URL....and gif banner.
When you create a background from a layer the file size becomes significantly smaller. How photoshop reduces the file size? is it compressing the file in some way?
I have a PNG-24 file with transparent background and its current size is 1.5 MB. How to reduce file size or use PNG-8 file format and keep same quality ?
i wanted to reduce size of cdr file. I wanted to know whether we can change resolution ,colour ... its it possible to compress images with and without use of any software.
I am using X4 editing in 16:9. The original files are MTS. The finished is rendered to MPEG2 (usually 1.65G-1.8G) which can be uploaded to YouTube. I want to also upload to blip.tv, which requires files smaller than 1.5G. What can i use to reduce the file size, yet keep the 16:9.
I have a question regarding the best way to reduce the size of a drawing from possibly 8” x 10” to 1”x1”. I am going to hire an artist to draw a characture of one of my clients
and use that as buttons for the website. I am thinking my options are to scan artist’s drawing into PS and reduce image, but I will definitely lose quality. Or I can retrace the drawing in Illustrator and develop a vector drawing, which I can resize . . . but how do I trace color?
when I was using Elements 5.0 I could open two photos, drag one photo into the other, then resize the photo by selecting it and using the handles. I can't find a way to do this in Photoshop CS3. Is this possible?  Am I missing a setting somewhere? I can drag one photo into another and move it around, but just can't resize it.
I got a stack of people (models of people) and I have a problem when I try to change the size of a particular person.
I do not know why this is happening. But every time I reduce the size of the model, and then I leave the editing panel, so the size of the person returns to the original size.
I have an ai file. It is exported from PRo-E, so there are lot of nodes in that ai file which makes the file size larger. Is there any way to simplify the ai file without disturbing the profile of the entities in ai file. I tried Simplify options. It worked a little bit. But i want any other option to simplify the ai file in order to reduce the file size in a larger extent.
Many of our AI-files have a tendency to 'bloat' to sizes above 60 or 100 MB, even though they relatively simple, all things considered. Â The obvious answer would be to save with PDF-compability, but since we need to link the AI-files in InDesign-documents, that's not an option. We have cleaned the brushes, the symbols etc. and all pictures are linked, not embedded. Â Are there any other ways to reduce the file-size?
