GIMP :: Processing A Stack Of Images (2013)

Jul 20, 2013

Problem :I have a large number of ex-camera jpegs of the pages of a book, photographed at an archive where scanning is prohibited. A camera stand wasused, with the book supported on foam wedges. Consequently, both pages ineach image are distorted - i.e. each page of a pair is a trapezium. It is, of course, a simple matter to crop and apply the perspective tool(twice) to an image to restore the pages to their flat state. Doing it forseveral hundred images is a non-starter, and anyway that's what the machineis for.

Proposed solution :
Import an image to the Gimp.
Drag and drop a number of images into the same project - as many as themachine can handle.
Link the image layers.
Crop.
Select one page and use the Perspective Tool to pull the page 'square'.Repeat for the second page.
Export each image, working down the stack.

Result :Selecting the right-hand page and correcting the perspective works, in thatthe Gimp progressively works down the layers. But, although each right-handpage is correctly 'squared up', all the left-hand pages, other than the toplayer, are enlarged and cropped.

Software used :2.6 under Debian Squeeze.
2.8.2 under Mint 14.1
2.8.6 under Windows 7
All OS 64-bit.

Photoshop :: Labeling All Images In A Stack When All Images Stacked?

Apr 1, 2013

A long time ago, when I was using Photoshop Elelments I found a plug-in that made it possible to work with stacks as a unit.

If I labeled the top image in the stack that lable was applied to all the images in the stack; then I could sort the the image on top and all the images in the stack would stay together, or if I deleted an image in the stack all the images in the stack were deleted.  Without it I have open each stack I lable and apply the lable, so when I sort the stacked images they stay together.

Photoshop :: Best Way To Stack Images?

Sep 20, 2012

I'm doing macro photopgraphy and need to do a lot of focus stacking. I'm trying to determine the best way to stack images in PS, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there. I've sucessfully stacked images using two different methods:

Way # 1

file -> scripts -> load files into stack
edit->auto-align layers
edit->auto-blend layers (stack images, seamless tones and colors)

Way # 2

file -> automate -> photomerge (uncheck blend images together)
edit->auto-blend layers (stack images, seamless tones and colors)

The second way produces a much better result, IMHO. Is that the best way to stack images in PS?

Lightroom :: Applying Labels To All Images In A Stack

Apr 2, 2013

A long time ago, when I was using Photoshop Elements I found a plug-in that made it possible to work with stacks as a unit.

If I labeled the top image in the stack that label was applied to all the images in the stack; then when I sorted the images, the stack remained in tact; instead of just the top image, with the label showing up. I could also label the top image in a stack with flaga and, for example quickly delete all the image with an "X". Otherwise is seems the only option is to open each stack, by Ctrl-clicking the number in the upper left corner, that opens the stack; with all the images selected, then click the star labels I want to apply to all the images in the stack.

Photoshop :: Crash After 13.0.1 Update When Align Set Of Three Images In Stack

Sep 9, 2012

During an attempt to align a set of three images in a stack, photoshop crashed with the usual (for me) ati.dll indicated in the Event Viewer. The nice thing about it is after I restarted PS the project was restored, minus the base layer, a transparent layer large enough to allow manual alignment. (Auto Align didn't work in Stacks.)

So crashing continues.

lingering issue that I want to figure out.

When I save a TIF, it will save just fine but after the save has been
completed, it goes through what looks like an action and reduces the
file size and dimensions.

I could just go through and delete some of my actions until it stops
doing it but I'd rather figure out how I did it; this function might be

GIMP :: Unskewing Images Of Flat Rectangular Objects (2013)

Feb 4, 2013

I often use my digital camera to take pictures of flat, rectangularobjects, like framed paintings on a wall, book or album covers, orpages of documents. Of course, I can't take these pictures straighton and perfectly level, but that's OK. I know what the dimensions ofthe objects are, so I can just correct the perspective in software.

In Graphic Converter (a Mac OS X app), I just use the "Unskew"function. I simply need to select the four corners of the rectangularobject I photographed. (Guide lines connecting the four points to locate them.) After I've located the four corners, I tell it to"unskew" and a rectangular image is produced.

Does Gimp have any function like this? I found the perspective tool, but that requires me to manually shift the perspective and eyeballwhen I think a rectangular image is produced. That's not nearly as convenient.

Lightroom :: Processing Infrared Images When Using LR And PS

Jul 11, 2012

This problem is specifically related to using LR & PS to process Infrared images.I am having problems processing Infrared Images when using LR & PS.  I take my IR images with a 530 IR conversion to a Canon G12 camera.  I learned early on Adobe products don't play well with IR images (they come in magenta when importing ) so I bring IR images shot withmy G12  into my computer with Canon Digital Photo Professional and then work in LR & PS from there.

If I then directly open this imported image from my hard drive into Photoshop and try and do adjustments such as blue sky adjustments with a red/blue channel swap, it works fine, just as I would expect.(If you are not familiar with IR processing, I understand this introduction and question will not make sense). But when using Lightroom, I sometimes have issues. I always import all my images into LR. Even with IR images, after using DPP to bring them to my computer, I import them into LR for cataloging purposes and to make other potential adjustments. Then my usual workflow is to move photos from LR to Photoshop via the "edit in" command. This opens a dialog box giving a choice of "edit a copy with LR adjustments" which is the default option and the one I always use, or "edit original".

Here's the interesting thing I finally discovered. If I send the photo from LR to PS using the "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" option, I get a bad blue sky effect, where the sky is green and the foliage is pink instead of the sky being blue and the foliage yellow. But if I send it to PS using the "edit original" option, the blue sky effect works fine.So there appears to be an issue when tring to send IR images from Lightroom to Photoshop.

Photoshop :: Batch Processing Images With Different Dimensions

Apr 23, 2012

Takes a jpg draws a shape masks the image adds another shape . So I can batch process a ton of images. I managed to do something like what I'm after but the thing I'm having trouble with is that the original images will have different dimensions.

I have attached (via link) an example image which would be the original (start.jpg), one which would be the desired end result (done.jpg) and the .psd

IF there needs to be a step in the middle of the action where I need to intervene and resize the flat image slightly to fit the canvas it'll still save a load of time.

I know that opening and saving will be taken care of using the batch feature and the result only needs to be a jpg.

Here are the working files -

GIMP :: How To Do Batch Processing

Aug 1, 2013

I am trying to use gimp in batch mode. I can't find any examples of how to do _real_ batch processing. All the examples on the net show how to integrate into the gui.

I see that I can use the -b flag to invoke script-fu functions. But AFAICS,the script with the function definitions needs to reside somewhere in~/gimp-x.y/scripts or something.

In addition, I can't find a way to pass command line arguments to the called functions. Is there any way to define/execute functions? For example, I'd like to callsimple-unsharp-mask from [URL]........

like this:

$ call-gimp-function script.scm simple-unsharp-mask file.png 5.0 0.5 0

Photoshop :: Workflow For Post Processing Offline Images?

Apr 22, 2013

Is there a way to send this individual lower resolution images so he can work on them and then have him send me the metadata from his edits, so I can apply them to the images I have on my system? The reason for this question is because I'd like to minimize the size of the images I'm sending to the editor, but still be able to produce high resolution stills.

I understand there is a way to work with RAW images and save the metadata, but that doesn't fix the file size issue, and you can only save certain aspects like white balance, levels, etc... I really need a way to capture his history and save that to a file, that way if he were to use a certain filter, or brush on the image, the same results would be applied to my images.

GIMP :: Batch Processing - Possible To Use JPG As File Name

Apr 21, 2013

When using command line gimp, is it possible to use *.jpg as the file name to have it process ALL the JPEG files in a folder? I'm really actuallyinterested in a simple file format conversion with no image processingapplied, specifically svg2png conversion. I know Gimp can render svg andcan save png, and unlike the next best program ImageMagick, the Gimpactually DOES NOT GLITCH the resulting image! So I've got a folder FULL OFSVG FILES, and would like to be able to just type "gimp convert -i *.svg-outputformat png" and have have it AUTOMATICALLY convert all my svg filesto png files. Is it possible to do this with such a simple and shortcommand line? I know the above exact example command line doesn't work, cause I tried it. But is there some simillarly simple command line code Icould use with gimp to convert svg to png via rendering the svg and thensaving the image as a png?

Photoshop :: Batch / Droplet Processing Images Into Separate Folders

Jul 2, 2012

I've recently finished a catalog with 700+ images and I'd like to create an index for future use.

I would like to have an action which allows me to save a general purpose size image for e-mailing to customers as well as a thumbnail size image for photo invoices. This I could do normally by making two seperate actions for the two, but there is an issue with the categories of image types.

Within the catalog the images are of products, and thus are related to a brand. I would like to index the images into a brand based folder, and then into seperate folders for thumbnails and general use.

So essentially, the workflow would be something along the lines of

Create New Folder for Brand/ Category
Open Image
Resize for General Use
Save Image As... in Brand > General Use
Resize for Thumbnail
Save Image As... in Brand > Thumbnails
Close

Repeat for all images in category.

Create New Folder for new Brand Category
Open Image
.... Etc etc.

Also, is there a way to select a resizing of an image by it's longest/ shortest edge within an action/ droplet? I know Image Processor has this capability but it seems strange there is no ability within an action.
