Photoshop :: Workflow For Post Processing Offline Images?
Apr 22, 2013
Is there a way to send this individual lower resolution images so he can work on them and then have him send me the metadata from his edits, so I can apply them to the images I have on my system? The reason for this question is because I'd like to minimize the size of the images I'm sending to the editor, but still be able to produce high resolution stills.
Â
I understand there is a way to work with RAW images and save the metadata, but that doesn't fix the file size issue, and you can only save certain aspects like white balance, levels, etc... I really need a way to capture his history and save that to a file, that way if he were to use a certain filter, or brush on the image, the same results would be applied to my images.

Today somehow the setting on my camera had raw file saving turned off. To try to minimize loss from post processing of the jpegs I assume I should save the edited files as PSD and develop my final pictures from that?

I often work in big files, such as 200 GB size files that usually contains 4-5 hours of recording. I make web series and require my videos to by like 15-20 minutes long. So far I've been taking these huge files, cropping them down to length and then waiting the compress, however this is a very bad method and very time consuming, because after I crop a video that fits the 15-20 minutes limit, I have to wait for it to compress completely before I can continue to work on the next one, which basically means, that even though it takes like 5-10 minutes to edit a video it takes more like an hour per episode because I need to stop and wait before I can work on the next episode.
Is there a way to queue up a ton of pre-edited projects and then make it all compress to seperate video files during the night or something? It would really save me a lot of effort.

I try to render an environment Map with video post processing. But i cant get it to work. The background (here created with an nebula script) is just white after rendering, the standard render works. Look at the screenshot, i think it will explain my problem better then my poor English vocabulary is capable.

We use Trimble data collection software. We typically import a "rw5" file converted from the "job" file. We then convert the "rw5" file to a "fbk" file. The conversion process has some bugs in it..
We have found two problems (thus far!):
1) The backsite data, for a station set-up, gives back an error when we reduce the data into the survey network. It also tweaks the coordinates for the set-up point. We have fixed the error by noting this line of data in the "fbk" file.
2) When the field doubles angles (wrapping, turning, etc.) C3D use only the first angle turned and not the mean or averaged angle.
We have found that if Trimble Geomatics Office (TGO) is used in post-processing, the "fbk" file generated works on both counts. FYI, the Trimble ribbon does exactly the same thing as C3D when a "job" file is imported, i.e. does not work properly.

Lightroom3 has all my images marked as missing or off-line. Recently I have been able to recover them by re-powering the external hard drive (Seagate 1tb) but this no longer works. The external drive is recognized by the 3 computers I have tried.,

Fired up my computer today after sitting idle for a few days. All 50,000 images are showing "offline or missing"
Everything was fine two days ago.... What happened and how do I get them all back? Images have not been moved at all.

I have about 9000 missing or offline images according to my Lightroom3 software.
However, they're not! I can see them in the folders on an external drive where Lightroom says they are not. When I try to reimport them, Lightroom says they are already there, doubly confusing?!
How to get them back in my Library so I can use them.

I'm tearing my hair out after creating an iPod jukebox style ad (i.e. album cover carousel) where the pix made with the LEFT perspective using Mold tool work fine, but the two made with RIGHT perspective using Mold tool come out skewed rather than moulded after exporting to PDF.
All images are jpegs; I've checked and am doing exact same process on either side. Tried killing the images in bitmap gallery and re-importing - makes no difference.

From the release notes: "Catalog containing images processed with PV2003 were adding a post-crop vignette when catalog upgraded to Lightroom 5"
Â
Does that mean all my PV2003 images (10,000+) now have a post-crop vignette included in their edit history? Or some? Or some special combination? I converted my v4.4 catalog a couple of days after v5.0 was released, so I really don't want to go back to my old v4.4 catalog and re-convert..

CS3 Suite
I was doing a lot of manipulation of actions and image save functions
and never really got what I wanted completely solved but now I have this
lingering issue that I want to figure out.
When I save a TIF, it will save just fine but after the save has been
completed, it goes through what looks like an action and reduces the
file size and dimensions.
I could just go through and delete some of my actions until it stops
doing it but I'd rather figure out how I did it; this function might be
useful.

I shoot all my photographs at 7.1MP and would like to batch process them to a smaller size for e-mail. I have a folder with 100 7.1MP images and want to copy then resize them in a new folder keeping the image name the same. I'm hoping to resize them to 100K in size.

Takes a jpg draws a shape masks the image adds another shape . So I can batch process a ton of images. I managed to do something like what I'm after but the thing I'm having trouble with is that the original images will have different dimensions.
Â
I have attached (via link) an example image which would be the original (start.jpg), one which would be the desired end result (done.jpg) and the .psd
Â
IF there needs to be a step in the middle of the action where I need to intervene and resize the flat image slightly to fit the canvas it'll still save a load of time.
Â
I know that opening and saving will be taken care of using the batch feature and the result only needs to be a jpg.
Â
Here are the working files -

I have a whole bunch of photos I need to batch process, but, when creating an action for this, I stumbled upon the problem that the paths I selected with the pen tool, and saved under the "Paths" tab need to be in every image for to be used in the action.

I've recently finished a catalog with 700+ images and I'd like to create an index for future use.
Â
I would like to have an action which allows me to save a general purpose size image for e-mailing to customers as well as a thumbnail size image for photo invoices. This I could do normally by making two seperate actions for the two, but there is an issue with the categories of image types.
Â
Within the catalog the images are of products, and thus are related to a brand. I would like to index the images into a brand based folder, and then into seperate folders for thumbnails and general use.
Â
So essentially, the workflow would be something along the lines of
Â
Create New Folder for Brand/ Category
Open Image
Resize for General Use
Save Image As... in Brand > General Use
Resize for Thumbnail
Save Image As... in Brand > Thumbnails
Close
Â
Repeat for all images in category.
Â
Create New Folder for new Brand Category
Open Image
.... Etc etc.
Â
Also, is there a way to select a resizing of an image by it's longest/ shortest edge within an action/ droplet? I know Image Processor has this capability but it seems strange there is no ability within an action.

I have 30 dirs, each of them with 4 thumbs in it. I want to make one big thumb of every 4 smaller ones, by resizing and fitting them together into square. Like
Thumb1 right next to Thumb2
below
Thumb3 right next to Thumb4
and then save that image.
Would you give me any direction how to do that? I'm with CS3. I did explore the auto and script options in the File menu, but still unable to get idea how to do that, if possible at all

This problem is specifically related to using LR & PS to process Infrared images.I am having problems processing Infrared Images when using LR & PS. I take my IR images with a 530 IR conversion to a Canon G12 camera. I learned early on Adobe products don't play well with IR images (they come in magenta when importing ) so I bring IR images shot withmy G12 into my computer with Canon Digital Photo Professional and then work in LR & PS from there.Â
If I then directly open this imported image from my hard drive into Photoshop and try and do adjustments such as blue sky adjustments with a red/blue channel swap, it works fine, just as I would expect.(If you are not familiar with IR processing, I understand this introduction and question will not make sense). But when using Lightroom, I sometimes have issues. I always import all my images into LR. Even with IR images, after using DPP to bring them to my computer, I import them into LR for cataloging purposes and to make other potential adjustments. Then my usual workflow is to move photos from LR to Photoshop via the "edit in" command. This opens a dialog box giving a choice of "edit a copy with LR adjustments" which is the default option and the one I always use, or "edit original".
Here's the interesting thing I finally discovered. If I send the photo from LR to PS using the "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" option, I get a bad blue sky effect, where the sky is green and the foliage is pink instead of the sky being blue and the foliage yellow. But if I send it to PS using the "edit original" option, the blue sky effect works fine.So there appears to be an issue when tring to send IR images from Lightroom to Photoshop.

Problem :I have a large number of ex-camera jpegs of the pages of a book, photographed at an archive where scanning is prohibited. A camera stand wasused, with the book supported on foam wedges. Consequently, both pages ineach image are distorted - i.e. each page of a pair is a trapezium. It is, of course, a simple matter to crop and apply the perspective tool(twice) to an image to restore the pages to their flat state. Doing it forseveral hundred images is a non-starter, and anyway that's what the machineis for.
Proposed solution :
Import an image to the Gimp.
Drag and drop a number of images into the same project - as many as themachine can handle.
Link the image layers.
Crop.
Select one page and use the Perspective Tool to pull the page 'square'.Repeat for the second page.
Export each image, working down the stack.
Result :Selecting the right-hand page and correcting the perspective works, in thatthe Gimp progressively works down the layers. But, although each right-handpage is correctly 'squared up', all the left-hand pages, other than the toplayer, are enlarged and cropped.
Software used :2.6 under Debian Squeeze.
2.8.2 under Mint 14.1
2.8.6 under Windows 7
All OS 64-bit.

What I'd really like is an offline FULL help like these PDF's for the entire
suite. For now I have PS, illustrator and flash in PDF. I miss the type into
the search, select app, and hit go.
Going online for help is a PITA. Even at T1 speeds.
I miss my offline help. Real drag, browsing thru a help, and seeing a link to the rest of the help online.
I want my offline help back.. I've got a terabyte + space for it...
I have 3 of the PDF full helps. Is there a way to integrate them as the helps ? I could live with that just as well as the offline pkg's.

I am designing slides in Photoshop using the DV video preset. Except I want to use these same files for print output as well. So here is my workflow: 1) Created video preset template but resized to 300 dpi2) Create slides3) Output slides to 72 dpi jpg4) Put into Premiere Elements5) Burn to DVD (except my app won't recognize my DVD burner now so I have to use Windows DVD maker but that is a different topic.) Then, I am using the same slides in a printed album:1) Switch the resolution on the 300 dpi to "square" pixels2) Save as jpg for my album template3) Put into a page frame I made out of an 8.5 x 11 doc (plus required bleed) So, my question is, do I need to switch to square pixels? I am not sure which way the picture was originally scanned, but I think switching to square pixels should be accurate...it is just that they are looking wide and I may just have gotten used to the other way. The rectangle pixel document actually fits onto the 8.5 x 11 album page better...but I want to do it the "right" way for print.

Photoshop CS3 gives a msg saying "Some postscript specific print settings (interpolation, calibration, encoding) will be ignored since you are printing to a non-PostScript printer".
Did not get this msg with CS2. Should I download Adobe Universal PostScript Windows Driver Installer 1.0.6 - English or will this prevent the canon pixma printer from working properly or is this additional software just a way for CS3 to communicate with the printer & will not affect printing from say MS Word etc.
