I now have a bunch of 500x500 xcf files that I would like to export to 200x200 png files. Can this be done with a script?
I am new to Gimp.
I have a question. I have an photo image in png format, But I need to convert it to xpm to use it as OpenGL texture, it has to be "128 128 64 1".
I could make it 128x128 easily, but how can I make it 64 color, 1char per pixel in Gimp?
I use Gimp 2.8 for Mac, the Export of xpm come out as "128 128 15347 3"
Is there somewhere I can set the color and char/px?
I have an .xcf file that contains my image. It is set to print at 5"x3" at 300 DPI. So my image is 2500 x 1500 pixels. When I export to a PNG my pixel resolution stays constant at 2500x1500, but my DPI drops to 72. This causes InDesign to pick up the image and think its 34.72" wide!
Why is my image always exporting to 72 DPI regardless of my settings on both the Print Size and Image Size windows?

I dont know how I should export a pattern. I did it before, followed some steps from a youtube video and everything went fine. Now I am trying to export a pattern again but its not working
If I export the pattern: somePattern.pat on my desktop. It doesnt appear in the list of patterns(Bucket FIll > Pattern FIll)
If I try to export it(save it) in C:/programfiles/gimp2
It tells me that I don't have the permission to do so. I also tried: C:/programfiles/gimp2/share/gimp/2.0/patterns. Still when I try to save it is telling me that I don't have the permission to save there.
I am trying to export an image that has gold gradient in it as well as a goldish-looking parchment type background, and in gimp, it looks as I'd like to look, but when I export (tried .png and jpg), the image becomes a slightly green looking. I've tried adjusting the color balance, the levels, brightness contrast, hue and saturation, but I cant get the goldish-yellow appearance on export as it seems in gimp.

I have saved brushes before and not had the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I open a jpg with a 72.000 dpi image in Gimp, remove background and save as a transparent png, the next time I open the transparent png in Gimp the dpi is 72.009! and if the jpg has a dpi of 150 it becomes 150.012 dpi in the png when I next open in in Gimp!
why is Gimp slightly changing the dpi resolution in my png files?
I recently have got back into using GIMP and noticed that my File>Export no longer brings up the menu. I need to save my image as a .tga file and only export can do this. I press the export button many times but after waiting forever it is clear it has broke. I reinstalled GIMP but had no luck.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWith the new 2.8 Gimp I seem to have lost the ability to change PNG export options. You used to get a dialogue which allowed you to set interlacing, compression etc etc but this seems to have disappeared?
how to re-enable this option ?
I don't know why, but lately, I don't have any options available when I go to export an image. Once I click "Export" from the file dialog box, all I get is this three-button Help/Export/Cancel dialog, and I can't specify any options relevant to the export format.

I encountered an interesting problem yesterday while trying to export an image as a jpg. I've outlined what I did.
I had a jpg file of dimensions 150wide X 100 high. Lets call this small.jpg . I had another jpg image that was much larger. Let's call this large.jpg . I wanted to change the size of large.jpg to have the same dimensions as small.jpg.
For convenience, I pasted the large.jpg onto small.jpg and then used the resize tool. When I clicked on export I got the following error-
Saving `large_to_small.jpg` failed
JPEG image plug-in could not save image. I could have sworn that I've done this before and it worked. So I wasted a lot of time trying to `fix` GIMP.
Solutions
1. Don't paste onto a pre-existing image. Create the canvas size you require then paste the image then resize and export.
2. If you do happen to paste an image onto another for resizing. Close all the files except the current one you are working with. Now choose select all and copy then go to file >>create>> from clipboard. The new image should be of the same dimensions. Export.
One thing I should mention, even though there was an error, the image large_to_small.jpg was created (file size 0 bytes). As you would expect, the jpg file couldn't be opened in GIMP.
when i open a new file and export it with ctrl+e, the gimp 2.8 exports the file with the current file name as expected but after i save (with save as) file with a new file name, ctrl+e exports the new file with the old file name, and i think it has to be changed, because it is an absolutely new file and it is senseless to keep the old file name for exporting the new file..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using GIMP to make GIFs and they were okay until one day I realized the GIF quality was terribly reduced after I exported it. But everything seemed fine when I was in the process of making it (I never use any color transformation I normally just crop and resize image and that's it) when I used playback the GIF seemed okay but once after exported, the quality was very terrible. I couldn't understand why.
Every single GIF I make ever since faces the same problem. The animation playback and everything seem fine. Just I can never export the same quality GIF like what I see in the playback, every time it ends up with a low quality one. I re-install GIMP but that doesn't work at all. I download the latest version but that doesn't change anything either.
You know how all pictures are rectangles....
Can you take a picture of a car; select it with the scissors tool ; put it in a new picture file layer; and export it in the shape of a car?
Then when you put it over another picture, it is already edited.
Probably not, but I thought I would ask.
I've just installed Gimp 2.8.10 on my fresh Win 8.1 x64 installation and I cannot export or open any type of image 'cos there isn't a single option to choose a file type when exporting and also, Gimp doesn't recognise images on my hdd when I try to open them.
So far I've used Gimp on Win 7 x64 and didn't have any problems. The only driver I currently have installed on my system is the graphics driver.
I have recently upgraded to 2.8 and am having problems with export to jpg, as opposed to old system of 'Save As" jpg.
When "Show preview in image window" is ticked, File size always appears as 1.3GB. If 'Quality' is reduced, file size displayed does not change to a new reading as it used to.
When I go ahead and export, the file is much smaller than 1.3GB. What do I need to do to get the file size in 'Export Image as JPEG' window to show an accurate file size?
Using Windows 7.
popup boxes like the one that occurs on export to set compression level, as well as the notifier of colour profile (option to keep or convert) appear behind the main window of Gimp, so I need to alt+tab over to the new window.
Is there a way to adjust this so that they pop up on top of Gimp?

My grafic has 600ppi grayscale.
I want to export a pcx-file with 600ppi, but exportet pcx-file has only 300ppi.What can I do?
I need to create an image to these exact specifications:
542px x 300px at 150 dpi in the GIF format.
I have tried over and over scaling my source (a JPG at 300 dpi) to those exact specifications, but once I export to a GIF, the resulting file is at 72 dpi. I feel like a dummy. Better yet, are those specifications even possible?
Export to BMP seems to default to 32 bits, but my 3d texture maps must all be in 24 bits. I would like to know how to make it default to 24 permanently.
Is there a setting for that?
When you're working on an image in GIMP, typically there's a bunch of selection and path spam all over the canvas, and checkered patterns for transparency, and all that stuff.
Is there a way to easily see what your image will look like when exported, without exporting it every single time you want to see what the image will look like?

making my desktop icons. I stated out with either a jpg or png image. Using gimpshop I get the image resized and it looks fine. However, after exporting as an ico the image is very recognizable but shorter and fatter. I use to use photoshop so with gimpshop I look for something that said retain aspect ratio but as of now I haven't found it. It seems to adjust both width and height when I scale it but something happens during the export.
