CorelDRAW X3 :: Files Are Too Large?
Sep 14, 2011I create new files in Corel X3. Even if their content is very small and simple (ex. one line), after saving these files have above 1 MB and it takes very long to open them.

View 4 RepliesWe have close to 11k of CDR files that we need to convert into PDF files because a great number of these CDR files have multiple pages in them. I'd like to be able to do this as a batch process.
I've tried this product called FoxPDF CDR to PDF converter, but it doesn't work. All it does is convert it to a PDF file, but inside the file there is nothing but a very large red pixelated shape in every single PDF file it creates. I've tried it on about 20 CDR files.

I couldn't seem to find a macro that can batch convert CDR to PDF on [URL].....
Any great way to do this on a large number of files?
I'm having size problems after importing and changing files. Look at this print screen, how this 2.73 mb Photo sizes up to more than 15 Mb without me doing anything?
I used to work with X3 but after updating to X5, this problem turned up.
We have tried this on 5 different machine configurations from XP (SP3) to windows 7 (SP1).
We do magazine outlays and therefore require large files. As soon as we go above certain size ( about 1.7GB), then the file will save. But try and open the file then we get an error. Disassembling the file gives an error on opening hte RIFF file. Try and import then erro is "cannot import empty file".
Quite a few people have given advice on using smaller files, but that is impractical. Our only viable solution at the moment is using files split into 10 to 20 pages each. Importing all the section, then creating the PDF and do not bother to save the complete file. We even went as far as building a test machine with up to 24GB of RAM and all the bells & whistles and only windows barebone + updates, no other 3rd party software except Coreldraw X5.
what the size of file is that Coreldraw X5 can handle? WHere are the limitations and is there a swap file setting?
In an effort to free up space on our company server I have been tasked with archiving and/or deleting files, of which a large amount are cdr files. So my question...yesterday out of a design subfolder I deleted around 1700 backup files comprising 19GB of file space. It would be except for one thing, deleting 19GB out of that one folder cleared up 160GB of space on our server.I have double checked my file counts, sizes, folder counts, etc before and after I deleted the files and everything adds up except for the 19GB deleted cleared up 160GB of space. These files were mostly last saved with x6, though some of them were probably first created with x4.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there any way for CorelDraw X6 to export very large TIFF files? e.g. greater than 30,000 pixels in each dimension? I am currently running X5 on XP 32-bit and it cannot seem to handle it, even though Photo-Paint appears to have the ability.I finally manage to get our IT guys to give me a Win7 64-bit test machine for me to trial X6 64-bit, but seems to only do marginally better than my X5 installation. The test machine already has 7GB RAM installed plus a very, very large drive.I also had to run the same test on Adobe Illustrator and it was able to deal with this very quickly and smoothly, no troubles at all.You may find it hard to believe, but I actually like using CorelDraw :-), which is so far the standard package for our company, but if I cannot get X6 doing what we want, I'm afraid it's the end of the line.
View 14 Replies View Relatedexporting my CorelDrawX6 files as a high quality jpg for large scale printing purposes. In X4 it was very easy - just export as usual to the highest quality cmyk jpg and open in Photo Paint... now when I export this way it takes forever to bring up the preview page and most of the time it ends up being blank. Sometimes even crashes. I have played with all options in the filter dialog menu that I can find but nothing works. Thought it might be a file size problem but never had that problem in X4 and anything under 200dpi will not be high enough quality.
View 11 Replies View RelatedJust a guess but with 64 bit Coreldraw maybe we would be able to Print Merge large files without crashing or having to break it into digestible bits.
Do vector conversion of complex images.Use Coreldraw like a publishing program, - kick Indesign
Computer memory is no longer the issue - 32 bit computer programs are.Until then I will stay with X4. run in Windows 7, 64 bit with 12 Gigs RAM.
I have a fairly new Panasonic Lumix LX5. I've recently converted a few files to DNG. They're turning out to be @ 37MB, over three times larger than the original file.
I'm not embedding the original raw files in the DNG. NEF files I convert from my Nikon D2x are around 9.5MB. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8, DNG v 6.6 and also use PS CS5.5 and Lightroom 3.0.
I'm regularly working with files of 3-4 gigabytes in size and am having problems with my Mac crashing when I go to save.
I am using a G5 with dual 1.8ghz processors and 2gb of ram.
I'm saving using large file format,
I have multiple xcf files that I saved because I use the selected area in those pics in multiple photo edits... and xcf files store what is already selected... these xcf files of mine are anywhere between 20MB and 40MB... what are they so huge?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI encountered problems with large prints from CorelDRAW X5 and I searched the forum for solutions (and didn't find any just questions with the same basic problem)
Set up:
processor Intel i5
memory 12Gb
Windows Home Premium 64bit
Corel X5 with memory limit patch (description at the end of the post).Every printer is on the network directly, some with fiery controllers other with their own network cards. For a demonstration I loaded a print merge with 2000 pages (but it could have been 20 pages with large graphicsm it would have a very similar result), as seen in the first picture.
When I open the print dialog Corel freezes up (hangs because it's waiting on splwow64.exe) until preflight is finished. If I attempt to modify ANY settings I have a 99% chance to crash the whole application. Depending on spooled file size this may take from 5 minutes to infinity. (picture in second post)
Naturally if for any reason the preflight needs to be generated again the waiting starts again. Also sometimes when I initialize printing, it hangs (third post with pic)And sometimes the preflight is generated incorrectly (as in the first page is printed multiple times and the same amount of pages are missing from the end or other wacky glitches)
So basically is there a way to speed up the preflight generation (as in resolve the splwow64.exe issue or somehow use 100% of the processor since it just using ~35% in my case) ?
Is there a way to only manually initiate a preflight after I set up the printing (not starting automatically when I open the print dialog)? Is there a way to start only a partial preflight ? (in most cases a sample of 5-10 pages from the document is enough to set up printing)I managed to solve a lot of the issues because I started out with CorelDraw crashing from generating the print merges or trying to save them - quite far from slow printing.
So the sum up of the solutions up to this point:
Switch from 32bit windows to 64bit.
Add RAM to a minimum of 8GB
Use memory patch on desired applications so the apps can use up to 4Gb of memory instead of 2Gb.Download patch here: URL.....
Applications (CorelDRW.exe and CorelPP.exe) in C:Program Files (x86)CorelCorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5Programs
And now all that stand in the way of fast printing is windows's 32bit-64bit printing translator
Every new file in Photoshop CS5 is suddenly too large. For example, an 8 1/2 x 11 document at 300dpi (created simply with the Photoshop preset), is now 80MB on the disk drive after saving. In the past, it would be only 1MB.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently work for a fashion company whom do lots of designs using photoshop and the rest of the adobe applications.
When they save PSD files they're about 1GB in size.
Storage on the server seems to be getting very low now and we need to do something about it. We have several options in place for extra storage but would like your advice on down sizing the PSD files?
For example:
1) Are there add-ins to downsize?
2) Are they saving the files wrong?
3) Are they using wrong effects. layers etc?
4) Is it normal to have 1GB PSD files?
5) What can they do to have smaller PSD files?
We have 5 designers sharing design files across a windows network. Everyone is running photoshop CS6 cloud subscriptions (which have auto updated to 13.0.1). The team have created and opened PSD files fine since July. Over the last 3 weeks we have had 5 files so far become unopenable - we get the message: “could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version”. Could it be that they are too large? The problem files are larger than the rest at around the 1GB mark. We are running HPZ210 PCs with Windows 7, solid state drives for the software, regular HDD for the data, and 16 GB Ram. One file at least was housed on a hard drive as well as the server and neither the local or network version of the file opens so it doesn’t seem to be a server issue. Five people on different subscriptions and computers have tried opening the files to no avail. Files were working ok one day, then not opening the next.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using/testing Photoshop CS6 for our company. We are using CS5 for 2 years with no issues. But PS CS6 crashes on lareg files. Say above 100Mb, with some layers. When saving the file, PS just closes with no message. Windows than says PS stopped working. And in the Eventviewer there is a error event.
I'n running no extra pluginns, just CS6 standard, fully up to date. Windows 7 32bits, 4Gb of RAM, 1 harddisk, Mac mini with i7, fully up to date. CS5 never gave issues with the same files.
I am using windows 8.1 and cs6 both recently installed. I have a problem with my PC in that downloaded RAW files are much too large at something like 45mb when they should be about 15mb.camera is a Nikon d700.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems opening some large files I've been working on in photoshop7. Win XP pro sp3, HP dx2250 AMD athlon 64 3800+ 98MHz, 1.87GB RAM, 79.4GB free space on C:When I try to open these files I get a dialog box titled 'New', instead of the opening progress bar starting to fill up. The 'New' dialog box has the correct file name, image size listed as only 452k, when the file is actually over 2GB, Preset sizes set at Default photoshop size, width 16.02cm, height 11.99cm, res 72dpi.Actual size of file is 2.2GB, 96cm wide x 66cm high at 300dpi. Clicking on the "New" ok button opens up a blank background layer and no others ie it is opening a new file and not the one I have been working on. This happens to two versions of the updated file with separate file names (v3 and v4). I've opened the original file (v2, which still opens ok)) and have been enlarging the canvas size and converting from rgb to cmyk. It appeared to save okay. This happened yesterday, too and I thought I must have not saved it correctly, so redid the work and saved again. Now I know something not right as I can't open the saved files. I've cleared the preferences file but no change.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using xara xtreme 4, i always used it to import large A1 size pdf files to resize them with xara on A4 page. I am trying to import now a 50 mb pdf file, after asking me if i need to optimize for editing i click import, it shows that it is converting the document then it asks me if i need to merge or insert to a new page i click merge and finally nothing shows on my sheet, still empty!
is there a better way to resize that pdf file?
I am using AutoCAD LT for Mac and would like to be able to make large format PDF files. I have only one printer installed and the maximum page size is legal. It makes great PDF files as long as they are letter or legal. Is there a way to install a "phantom" printer that has architectural sheet sizes, preferably in color?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Gimp on very very large image files, my current image is 22000 x 23000. Gimp has 24GB of memory assigned in the Preferences menu (out of 32) and is fine while editing. However whenever I save the image as an XCF or PSD it corrupts. Occasionally with an XCF it will be recoverable but only one layer will recover. If it's exported as a PSD next time I try to open the image it says there are too many layers and is corrupt.
Is this a bug or is there a way I can preserve my large images with layers?
I'm planning on moving over to Lightroom soon. My problem is that my files are distributed over two machines (one windows, one mac), I want to put the files on an external hard drive and have only the catalogue on the mac (the harddisk of that machine is too small to hold all the files). So I thought I'd rebuild everything from scratch, let LR rename and copy all the files into a new folder structure, possibly even converting to DNG while doing so. Is that possible? Should I break this up into several steps? (I'm talking about around 40 thousand files)
(P.S.: I scanned the discussions first, but I didn't find anything relating this)
edit: As far as I understood a book on lightroom that I bought, it should work this way -- it's just that I'm not sure whether it's the best way...
I'm using Corel X3 graphics. Windows Vista. HP officejet pro 8500a premium printer. I'm trying to print a file I used to print all the time. It's a map with bitmaps. I must have accidently changed some settings in CDX3 because now it prints too large--it won't even fit on the page. I've tried changing every print setting that relates...Fit to Page, etc. I also restarted corel while holding down the F8 key to reset the factory defaults. I've re-installed Corel 3 times! I'm at my wits end.

I am trying to generate A4 tiles of a large banner (13m x 3m).
In the layout mode, I can't seem to get the image size to be set at 100%. If I manually set the image size to 100% and click on apply, this drops back to 38%. 38% is the highest it seems accept.
Is this a limitation with CorelDraw? Is there a way around this?
I've inadvertently changed something that mades the import/export screen too large, and I can't click onto the open, save, etc. buttons on the bottom right. I've tried dragging the screen up to the top, but I still can get to those darn buttons!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am curious to know how other people create and produce vehicle graphics. I have had a tremendous amount of difficulty using CorelDRAW X5 for producing large vehicle graphics such as city busses and large tractor/trailer rigs and box trucks.
My basic workflow is to begin with a vehicle outline and actual measurements, create the full scale artwork, slice the art into 53" wide panels, and send to the printer RIP as PDF-X3.
For smaller projects this workflow works adequately, however, larger projects become such agonizing hassles I want to take up a new career. Due to the huge amount of lost time due to corrupt files, repeated crashes, software reinstalls, tedious work-arounds, etc. I feel I have no choice but to switch to a different software, most likely Adobe Illustrator.

I have recently moved from PS CS5 to CS6 and have noticed what seems to be an increase in the amount of time it takes to save large files. At the moment I am working with a roughly 8GB .psb and to do a save takes about 20 minutes. I have had to disable the new autosave features, otherwise it just takes far too long.
CS5 managed to save larger files, more quickly and with less memory available to it. Looking at system resources while Photoshop is trying to save, it is not using its full allocation of RAM specified in performance preferences and there is still space free on the primary scratch disc. The processor is barely being used and disc activity is minimal (Photoshop might be writing at 4mb/s max, often not at all though according to Windows).
I am finding the new layer filtering system invaluable so would rather not go back to CS5. I can do to speed up the saving process?
I am in the process of creating a large( 10 feet by 3 feet) sign for a hockey arena. I am having trouble saving it as an eps file, which is what the printer has requested, without distorting or completely changing the effects? I am using photoshop cs5 on Mac os 10.6.8.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are currently working on an architecutre project for which we have to make printed curtains/screens. The maximum of one Curtain is about 180 meters (600ft). Over the 180 meters we have a pattern, which makes it not so easy to split files into pieces (color gradients, a.m.m.)
Our printing company suggested us to produce everything in a 1:10 scale (1 meter is 10 centimeters) and in 600dpi and they will scale it up with their rip unit and print it than in 1:1. Final print resolution is therefore 60dpi.
As a start we are doing a 25 meters x 2,5 meters file - which is already super hard on the computer. (all new macs with 16gb ram and adobe creative cloud)
Is there any way of working like with videos - online and offline files? So that we work on a smaller scale and then repeat all the steps on the larger images.
We want to get our workflow optimized as we have to produce 3000 meters of image.
I've had problems with Photoshop CS6 freezing on me and giving me RAM and Scratch Disk alerts/warnings ever since I upgraded to Windows 8. This usually only happens when I work with large files, however once I work with a large file, I can't seem to work with any file at all that day.
