At random points while editing my keyboard will become inactive within Smoke. I've mapped out a custom keyboard and it works well to a certain point. It's as if I've accidentally changed a setting that "turned off" all my key maps. I can't zoom, insert or even playback from the source monitor or timeline.
I do a heavy job about an into working on a comp my keyboard will stop working, every once in a while if I cmd + tab out of smoke and back into smoke it will do the same thing, but my mouse always works. The only way to really get the keyboard back to working is by rebooting the app. This is really embarrassing when you are doing supervised sessions and you have to reboot.
I can only do a pen right click (using the pen button) with the smoke FCP7 keyboard settings.Shouldn't be like that, I guess, and I think this wasn´t with pre3
Only alternative is to press ctrl and click, but well, what are my pen buttons good for and i´m lazy, especially when i have to access option menus.
Some of my keyboard short cuts do not work - for example Import (CMD-I), Export (CMD-E) make subclip etc...... things like JKL play work and mark in mark out etc...
I know most of us have 2 computers in our suites and would be nice to controll both computer without having to use 2 mice and 2 keyboards. Right now I am using 2 computers, a mac pro and a macbook pro. I would like to use my MacPro's keyboard and mouse to control the macbook pro much like a mouse and keyboard on a second display. I've been using an application called teleport, but it doesn't allow me to use keyboard commands.
I've heard/used synergy, but it's to much work for the final product.
Is there any keyboard shortcut in Smoke to shuttle quickly across footage (with sound playing) at 2x or 3x speed like you can in Avid/FCP/Premiere etc by double/triple-tapping the J and L keys?
This makes scanning through clips and the timeline so much faster and I consider it a basic essential.
In a text node, I really need to activate a virtual keyboard to put accents in words??
I am Brazilian and my language has several words with accents (á, à, é, ê, ç ....) every time I need to type something into smoke I will really going to have to keep typing a few letters, go for a virtual keyboard, select a special character, disable the virtual keyboard to type back ....
Having issue like loosing all of your shortcut keys in max? I have them all assigned in the Customize > Customize User Interface>Keyboard Tab but they are all inactive, forcing me to work like a snail with my left hand in my pocket. I've gone and checked for the shortcut files, done a RESET to max settings, Reloaded the UI, Restarted the computer, can't remember anything else I can to to sort it out.
how the sync locks work with insert editing and keeping your sequence in sync...This is based on requests and user feedback.
You can watch the video on the Smoke Learning Channel on Youtube URL....It will also be available on iTunes in a short time. Please note that this is one scenario where the sync locks will work. They also function when trimming a cut when all the cuts line up.
As usual, you can follow me for all the latest learning channel updates on twitter @discreetuk and you can subscribe to the Smoke Learning Channel on YouTube.
As stated earlier I am using a Mac book Pro 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7 / memory 8gb 1067 MHz DDR3 / Running on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Also
The external hard drive is connected to the firewire port and yes it is 7200RPM 1.5TB
Whenever I do a couple of editing functions with smoke, all of a sudden things freeze up as I see the multi color spinning wheel appear on the Mac, thus causing me to do a force shut down.
Do I need to upgrade the Mac, operating software or?
I am doing some tests for an edit job I would like to use Smoke for tomorrow.
Some of the test footage appears to have been shot at 1440 x 1080 and appears squashed on my 1920x1080 sequence.
I see there is a resize option that can be applied to footage.
Does this resize effect have to be rendered before becoming visible?
The reason I ask is because in Avid when you work with this footage via AMA there is no need to perform a resize and therefore is very quick to start cutting with.
Having to resize and render a huge bin of rushes would take a long time and I assume would move the media into Smokes storage folder (creating new media and taking lots of space).
This leads to another general smoke question, can it do realtime effects. Again Avid can handle tons of these and makes for a speedy edit. If everything has to be rendered in Smoke before you can playback realtime then it makes me think that Smoke should be used as less of an everyday editor.
how can i do this in Smoke. I can't find any option to turn the capability on. is it available ? i want to be able to edit gmask in context , after the transform is applied to the gmask. can i do this ?
I have seen a number people new to smoke get confused when trying to edit mono audio source to a stereo track only to find the audio doesn't doesn't appear.
How about a preference that automatically splits the mono audio so that it edits to the stereo track?
If it was on by default it would definitely be of less confusion to new users
Or perhaps a dialogue box explaining why the edit did not work due to the differing audio properties.
I know that the AJA Kona 3 card has 2 outputs. Can Smoke send one eye to one channel and the other eye to the other of the Kona 3 card? Dual Stream output is what I am really getting at.
Is there any way that Smoke can see/output sub-blacks and super whites? Can't find any way of seeing them on my scope, Smoke just clamps everything. It won't even see anything below zero in order for me to make a correction on it, everything seems to be clamped on import. I'm using ProRes HQ footage.
What is the best plugin to do spline warps in smoke?(need something like the distort in flame) I notice revisionfx don't make a warper for smoke on mac.
I am experimenting with Smoke 2013 pre-trial and I am having issues with importing images and video with alpha channels.
1. If I have a layered Photoshop file or png with an alpha channel (a still frame lower third), I see that I can import it as a multi layered clip, but what is the best way to have it in the sequence to show up properly?
2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?
Does Smoke have selection functionality similar to that of Combustion? As an example, you might want to selectively blur part of an image. In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?
Whats the dealing with importing TWs to Smoke? I have a show that's 70% keyframed with timewarps and need a way other then baking the effect to bring it into Smoke. It's comming from FCP7 and we have Automatic Duck but neither the XMLs or AAF bring anything other then the first speed of the clip. Any way to retain the keyframes?
I have a few question about the autodesk material library. i'm using a plastic material and i'd like to add a transparency map. The problem is, the transparency option doesn't showup. And if i set the material to plastic (transparent) it doesn't showup too. what do i need to do?
Another question is, where can i find the arch&design library?
I have RED footage which I exported as EXR. When I import them back in, they look exactly like the RED footage. But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.
