I can tell you cannot Gateway Import from a drive that is Read-Only. The clip seems to work, it just says pending render, of course when you import a large number of files it always says pending render. Unfortunately it never actually finishes pending render, and will list as failed in Backburner.
So you can for instance think you have relinked an entire timeline and start doing a fair amount of work on it, but you will then be unable to send this large timeline to your flame like you think.
There is no god damned reason it should allow you to gateway import something that you cannot actually gateway import. All it would need to do is check if the drive is read only before it does it and give you an error message IN THE APPLICATION. Rather than everything looking fine, but then making you go tease the meaning out of this from backburner:
smk001 1896942624 swBIOSubJobServer.C:298 01/21/12:18:14:05.450 1896942624 swBIOAdapter.C:403 01/21/12:18:14:06.504 Cannot process tasks 0... in /var/tmp/WireJob/SubJob0.
Read-only file system on processing S+W server..The fact that the color correct house had randomly given me an NTFS drive this time didn't occur to me for quite awhile, since the last two were both macOS.
I have RED footage which I exported as EXR. When I import them back in, they look exactly like the RED footage. But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.
I am having issues for a long time regarding importing XML into smoke 2013. Will try and explain you in breif.
First When we try an import XML into smoke it just doesnt do anything, in the message history box it comes up saying FOUND 0 SOURCES.
Nothing gets imported at all. No footage is imported, nothing is shown in timeline as well.
Second For a different project when the XML does get imported, the videos get imported but then again nothing is coming up in the timeline and in the message history box we get the following error.
XML Validation Failed.
Cannot process unliked media.
we have checked all the import options to make this work, including max up level and the rest but nothing is working.
I have try everything I can think of but Smoke 2013 won't export any clip and when i was able to export 1 it wouldn't play. Iwas able to export on Smoke 2012 demo with no problems.
I'm having issues exporting still frames from Smoke. How do you specify the frame to export as a Single Frame? I can see anywhere where you tell Smoke what frame should be the Single Frame to export from a timeline.
I need to export a series of frames, about 200 in total but they are at random places in a 1 hour 30 min timeline so I need a fast and easy way to get this done.
I have a sequence that I only want to export a segment of, from my marked in-point to out-point.
Where is the option like in FCP & Avid, to just export that segment? I would really like to have to not create a subclip each time I just want to export a segment.
I'm conforming a sequence - importing RED files - then exporting that sequence for color. When importing the RED files, what color setting should I use? Camera, user etc? If user then what other options should I use knowing that I'll export a dpx sequence for color?
I'm not sure if the smoke on mac software handles exr with rgb and z pass, but using wiretap to import exr, I get this error. The file was 16bit FP with and without zipline compression
How to import exr with multiple passes to smoke on mac?
I tried to import a FBX camera from Mocha v3 and noticed that there is no FBX selection under the Object Tab in Action. Is that coming on the next Pre-Release?
i can import the .psd using mediahub or desktop import or in action bin, i can use 'import' node. But i want to spot importing psd file directly from cfx schematic using 'read file' node in I/O tab. I will get one single file . I believe this node is containing multiple information (channels/layers). How can i extract the layers from that node ? how can i make this node usable since i can't make any connection to other node. Like in Nuke , there's a node named 'shuffle' which can extract or pull out a selected channel/layers from a single node. How to do this in cfx schematic ?
Talking about 'shuffle' node in Nuke. Is there any node similar to that? so the node not only can pull/extract channels but also can 'shuffle' or re-pipe the channel . For example pipe chan Red to chan Green, or Alpha to Red etc. What is the best way to do this ? do i have to use CC module ? any similar node in cfx schematic level?
we normally used 1280 resolution clips with 25 fps..
i do settings with 1280 resolution but, when we import the raw footages in media hub its normally import on 50 fps... its really difficult to always check the fps ...we want always to import the files in 25 fps.
I'm trying to export quick times from smoke 2013 but it's failing the whole time. The engineer installed sp2 but I realized that the system has still installed the sp1, has it something to do?, I have to uninstall sp1 and then install sp2?, I mean, have I to install the smoke again? In the company where I'm working with there are two smoke systems and I'm opening the backburner monitor and appears the two systems, is it good?, The error that that the system has is:
SMOKE-01.local [error] 2891913768 transcoderMediaProvider.C:312 02/25/14:18:36:16.886 Cannot get type of clip IFFFS-158:/stonefs/TC_-_BOXING/workspace/Media Library/_Export_140225_161339_1/H_16777343_S_1393362820_U_578586/hires: Library _Export_140225_16
I have an edit and now I want to export as DPX sequence. A couple of questions:
First, is there an easy way to take a single edit and export it with handles? I realize that I can make a subclip but is there an easier/better way to do this?
I can't find an automated way to set handles on export. I have about 175 shots that I need to export .
PR5. Up until this release, I haven't had a problem exporting quicktime movies. I have a 2:30 long video that I'm trying to export with no success, at best I'll get 30 seconds of my project. I'm not as familiar with Smoke setups and preferences
When exporting a sequence I'm having problems with my audio being distorted, like it was peaking. Audio in the timeline sounds good, I did have some gain adjustments on some clips which I removed to see if that was the issue and the same problem is happening. No other effects other than some reverb are present.
Faders were normalised and audio peaked at -1dB only for a few seconds, the normal audio levels are about what is shown in the screenshot, around -6 to -5 dB.
This was exporting via the iPod preset with not further adjustments.

Trying to export a camera from Smoke to Cinema 4D. Cinema recognized the FBX file and opens the scene with the camera, however none of the animation comes through. I've tried baking the animation in the export options and also baking the animation channel. Neither seems to work.
if you download and install with only WI-FI on. you get one MAC adress... then if you connect your macbookpro with a Thunderbolt->Ethernet adapter, you want this to be first in the list for fastest connection. Then Smoke will not export (backburner fails)
If you remove the adapter so that Wi-fi is the only one. Well then everything works...
I've been unable to import ProRes 422 files son I have to work with the H264 native files, which suck. But now I tried to import a couple of PSDs and a TIFF and they don't appear in the media hub nor can I drag-and-drop'em to the media library.
I'm trying to import 4K-5K R3D files from an Epic into my 1920x1080 project. Oddly enough, Smac thinks the clips are 1280x675 resolution. Why and how can I get them in at 1080HD or even larger?
I've been trying to import a XML from FCP (xml version 2), bun everytime I only get a timeline with unlinked media...
I placed the XML one directory above my media. But when I drag the XML into my library (having Store Local Copy turned on), I only get the "empty" timeline...
When I try to relink my media from the gateway, it's not relinking anything (it says, no video and audio found). Is there no way to import an XML without having to import the original media into my library? Also, no matter what kind of clip I'm importing, it always soft imports my clips, although store local copy is turned on...
Attached is a picture with the settings for my xml import (and on top the unlinked xml, which says SOFT, although, as you can see on the bottom of the screen store local copy is enabled).

I´ve a problem when import all types of audio file, the application crash...but is curios that if I export the file that crash the application (in Lost and found) to the desktop and try import this audio there aren´t problem..import ok...and if this audio is edited with a image and import with import media tool (audio and video) import ok.
Another question about import / export...when a tried export a quick time in the column of status of background tasks appear the message that my "host" does not seem to exist, and not process the quicktime move.
I'm new to Smoke and have an issue. Im importing an xml from FCP and Smoke crashes in the library. I'm taking a class @ FXPHD and the first class is an easy xml import reading the source media.
As soon as I load the xml into the clip library Smoke crashes. I've already gone thru the system set up requirements and have a great machine built to Smoke requirements. I'm wondering if it is a network configuration of some sort? Not sure...
I am trying to import an AAF from Avid Symphony 6.
AAF is detected OK, when I try to import it gets stuck looking for sources. I have put the AAF files as close to the media as possible (1 folder up) as I do not want to put the AAFs in the MXF folder as it will upset the Avid.
I have simplified the AAF to have no speed changes, layers or effects - its a one layer cuts only sequence.
Smoke ends up not responding and I have to force quit.
