I'm wanting to work on my laptop at home, and my machine at work. I have an external tunderbold SSD array that I want to use. How would I set smoke to save projects to the external drive? Whats the best work flow for this?
View 3 RepliesI have Smoke (same version) running on two seperate Macs. Each Mac has an external thunderbolt drive for the media storage.
I worked on my project at home on Mac #1, and assumed I could bring in my external drive and use it with Mac #2.
When I try to add my drive from home to Mac #2, it creates ManagedFolder1. Which of course doesn't have my project in it- my project is on ManagedFolder0.
I suppose this may be caused by the fact I already have a ManagedFolder0 on a different external drive for this Mac, right? So I removed that drive, assuming I could then re-add the drive from home and allow access to the 2nd ManagedFolder0 with my project.
It just shows my old projects from the other drive still, but everything is broken inside of them. This makes sense as the drive is disconnected.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhile changing the media drive in Smoke setup via commenting out the current drive isn't a complicated process, I personally would find a more streamlined option useful. Something on the startup screen would be great: select project, user, media drive. When using FW800 drives, I typically try to have a discreet project drive that has everything on there for the current project. With the larger Thunderbolt raids, I am going back a little to the old system of having active storage and archive storage. However, when thunderbolt prices come down, I'll most likely have a separate drive for each project again.

Is it possible, on a Finder level, to move project information (like sequences) between machines using Finder? After my current Smoke install has self-destructed without any fix from Autodesk, I need to retreive my work in progress.
I've tried copying the folder from /usr/discreet/project/ into the same location of another system with the same release version but it does not appear in either the launch screen or Media Hub.Can I replace the entire /discreet/ folder with the one from my crashed system to get the project back?
What I don't get is when it says "navigate to the project that contains the clips you want to copy." Does that refer to /usr/discreet/project/<project name>? Because when I navigate to there, I don't see any media to import.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI hit render early in the am to ship out a project for delivery. And in classic Johnny Fegan fashion my mac pro crashes, and won't boot. So my next step is to start the mac in Target Disk mode, via firewire(probably the second worst thing that has happened to me, firewire) and started to backup everything. Due to the fast turn around on the Project, I never had a chance to archive the project.
My current working config(on the mac pro that died) was an internal raid0, and a pci express ssd. The raid is where I keep my local Autodesk Media Storage folder, and the ssd is my system drive(/usr/discreet). I just completed a back up of both folders to my secondary mac pro, with a license of smoke installed, and am trying to open my project on it. I set the backup copy of my old Autodesk Media Storage folder up to be used under the Smoke setup utility, and when I access it in smoke the only option I get is to create a new project.
Is there a way to get this project back online?
I was wondering if it's possible to archive Smoke projects via command line as it would be so much convenient.
If so I could create a shell script with my project and library names and just leave it running overnight project after project. Is this possible? Or command line works only for un archiving?
What's is the best way to share projects and media between two 2013 Smokes?

I recently converted to an iMac and CS6 from PC/CS5. In addition to the Mac OS missing some key file selection tools (like shift select for a range of files), I am having a big problem with thumbnail. I recently sent a file to be printed that was edited in CS6 on the iMac. The files were stored on an external hard drive connected direclty to the iMac. The file I got from the printer did not match the image I sent. I traced the problem to the fact that when using the Save-as function, the thumbnail was not updated.
I was able to replicate this problem at will. As an experiment, I moved the file onto the internal hard drive and tried again. This time the thumbnail did update.
I've just purchased Elements 12 but can't save photos on my hdd that I edit. I use a macbook pro which I also recently purchased. Before the mac I was using a laptop with windows and ACDSee with no issues.
I can access and edit the photos from the hdd but cannot save them. I am using jpeg and tif files.
The message I get is that I can't save the file "because write access is not granted".
Is there a way to save a CFX set up with its media (in my case, still images) as a preset to be used in other projects?

The reason I ask, is that I have just been adding rec area clips and now I have a lot and I don't know what to do with them. In 2012, I save the record area to the library and then make a new rec area. That way I know my very important masters are safe. How do I do this in 2013?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to do a freelance gig on 2013, so kicking and screaming I drag myself to the SMac and get into cfx.
My first bugbear is when saving or loading an action setup in cfx. The node load/save buttons are on the other side of the screen from the cfx load/save button, yet in the modular keyer, when you want to save a colour correction, the node load/save button simply replaces the mk load/save button. I find this much faster. Can we move the cfx node load/save buttons to keep inline with action and the mk?
The colorwarper is unusable in cfx. I know you know. So ?
And what's with the hotkey for gmask in action Modular Keyer. I can't get it working?
BTW, I downloaded the trial yesterday, so it is the most recent version Smoke 2013 SP2
Is this a bug? I can't save a custom export preset. I set it up, hit save, give it a name then don't see it in the list.

I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.
I have about 900 raw files on an external drive. I edited those files using my master catalog using a laptop while still travelling. When I got home, I copied the master catalog from the external drive to the desk top, then opened the master catalog on my desktop. I can see the edited images on the external drive. So far so good.
I want to copy (add) the edited images to my desk top. I tried to export the images as a new catalog and then import it into the desire location on my desktop drive. However, LR5 does not allow that. I get this message: "There is nothing new in the catalog you have selected. All of the catalog's photos are up to date in this catalog." Yes, but the edited images are not on my desktop.....
I also tried to Import from the external drive and then Copy the files to the desktop, but then I lose all of the work done in the develop module and the keywords.
I watched Kost's LR 3 video on merging catalogs, but she dodges the question of how to deal with this issue since the "merge" is within the same catalog.I'm using LR5 with Windows 7.
