AutoDesk Smoke :: Adding Cut On A Layer Causes All Dissolves To Disappear
Apr 25, 2013Adding a cut on a layer causes all dissolves on that layer to disappear?? Why would this happen? Looks like a bug.

View 2 RepliesI've just purchased a new and faster frame store. Added the unit using the 'Smoke Setup' utility. While I am able to create new projects onto the new drive I am unable to render files, produce proxies or process out effects from the desktop. I am presented with "framestore locked".
I thought this would be simple. All other Smoke 2012 components are running normally. The system checker utility also indicates that no framestore found which is pretty indicative (if you can believe that it is reporting correctly as I believe there is a known bug in this updated System Checker). However the the Smoke setup utility clearly indicates that the new framestore has been added.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm trying to use the add point tracking feature in the MK/Gmask in action. Is this a bug or has the software changed? I used to be able to add a tracking point, scrub media to where the point falls off, select add, hold down control and move the tracker to a new point and it would work fine.
Today no matter what I do when the tracker jumps to the second selected position it just jumps off screen. It even does this if I dont use the add function and stop a track, move to new location and hit snap? Whats up with that?
I added an Axis FX to the clip on the timeline and entered the Editor. Everything looks fine. I see the clip loaded above the control parameters. The "Layer" button is turned on. Stabilizer/Track is set to Track. When i click on the Stabilizer button to enter the tracking editor, I see the tracking box on a black screen, the clip is not visible anymore.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a project where I have a high res of an astronaut on the moon.
The elements are:
Foreground: Mid shot of Astronaut
Mid: Moon (as in the ground he is standing on behind him)
Background: Space
I've managed to separate out the elements, position them in actions' 3d space and even add a nice little lens flair in the reflection of his helmet as the camera slowly tracks from left to right. The effect (well we've all seen it before) is that it adds 3d depth via parallax scrolling to the photo.
What I can't achieve is a realistic reflection of the moon surface (i.e. the ground in front of him) reflecting in his helmets mirror-like visor.
In order to fake the reflection I essentially want the motion in the reflection of the moons surface to be opposite to that of the mid ground behind him.
My plan was to re-use the mid ground moon surface flipped horizontally and view it through a matte/alpha describing the visors shape and then animate it moving in the opposite direction with a couple of simple keyframes.
How I tried to achieve this was:
Prepare the layered file in photoshop including helmet visors alpha layer (a simple coloured layer with a hole in it)
Bring into action and separate out all the layers in 3d ensuring the helmet matte remains in the same position as the astronaut layer
Animate camera tracking
Come out in to connect fx
Dupe the action node twice and rename the new ones 'helmet alpha' and 'moon reflection'
Go into 'helmet alpha' and delete everything except the camera and the helmet alpha
Go into the 'moon reflection' and delete all except the camera and the moon surface
Go back into cfx and use some compositing node to flip the moon surface (and plug the moon surface action node into that..?)
Then create a new node which allows me to plug the helmet alpha into the alpha channel and the moon surface into the fill channel
Create another new node which allows me to combine the result of this previous node with the original node and layer it on top.
In previous versions, when we’ve want to import a psd file, we could choose from several options (all/layer/flat). Particular, we could select the layer of the psd you want imported.
In the 2013, we can’t do this. Is it possible to have these opportunities again?
I try to cast shadow from a photoshop file and dont see anything, im not talking about simple shadow. Ill put a light and then shadow cast. I dont know if this is only a 3D geometry feature.

I'm doing a simple 3D text move in Action and I want to layer it on top of my timeline. After rendering the layers in the timeline, it seems that my matte is messed-up (see attached).

1. If I have a layered Photoshop file or png with an alpha channel (a still frame lower third), I see that I can import it as a multi layered clip, but what is the best way to have it in the sequence to show up properly?
2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?

View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes Smoke have selection functionality similar to that of Combustion? As an example, you might want to selectively blur part of an image. In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe same thing happens on all three blur gallery effects (field blur, iris blur, tilt shift). Once I pick the filter the layer becomes empty. The strange thing is that when I manipulate any of the controls the object appears, but once I stop holding the mousebutton down on the input. The object disappears again. When i apply the settings (enter or the ok buttoon). The layer is empty.
I have used these filters a lot, this just happend suddenly. And I can't fix it. Restart does not work.

View 1 Replies View Relatedthis is my problem:
Pic 1. I have an image I want to use as a background, however the image is not complete. I need a part of pic 2 to fullfill it.
Pic 2. The colors around the object doesn't match the colors of Pic 1.
Normally it would be best to cut the object out. However in this case it wouldn't look nice (the object is mixed out (in color) with the rest of the image). If I cut out something the object won't look "proper".
My question:
How can I blend pic 2 on pic 1, using the original object from pic 2 (as it is), and at the same time blend the colors around it, so that it matches that of pic 1 / or simply remove it somehow?
The 'Template' checkbox gets activated in Layer Options dialog box, and the box gets closed, then, the Layer name and several icons at the bottom of the Layer Panel disappear. The Layer is still there without a name, and rolling over the icons on the Layers Panel I can see the Tool Icons.Illustrator Prefs were trashed/restored using the Opt-Shift-Command restart shortcut.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA lot of times I'll be working on multiple .psd files and as I'm moving between files I'll notice that all the layers & layer comps will disappear from their palette
[URL]
I can bring them back by doing something like clicking on the text tool and then clicking on a text item on the stage. It's annoying because it takes a couple of clicks for the palette(s) to redisplay.
Is this a bug or is there a setting in preferences that can control this?

I tried Smoke 2013 PR2 on my MacBook Air 11".
It uses all the available RAM that is 4GB.
Same experience with Smoke 2012 on my MacBook pro 13"".
Is that normal?
I have RED footage which I exported as EXR. When I import them back in, they look exactly like the RED footage. But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.

I converted the h.264 files to uncompressed 10bit. Bringing in the footage and XML was fine, but as soon as I resize to PAL (the timeline was changed to PAL, as was the output on the AJA) the picture starts anti aliasing in detail areas. I have processed this with every filter in Smoke with no satisfactory result.
