AutoCad :: Why XREF Manager Has Dozens Of Unreferenced Attachments Which Cannot Delete
Jun 13, 2011
Im working on a reticulation drawing with the site plan XREF'ed in. Why XREF manager has dozens of unreferenced attachments which I cannot delete. See image.
I was working on the drawing this morning and reloaded the XREF without trouble, then I saved the retic drawing as a Rev 3 and now I cannot reload the XREF. Then when Id like to remove and reattach it I cannot find it in XREF manager yet it is still visible on my drawing.
I copied and pasted special part of an excel document into AutoCAD Map 3D. But I had deleted it instead of detaching it. How do I remove it? Its says I cannot reload, detach or bind. I have 6 of those. I have 2 more that are Not Found and states the same thing. I just want them gone. How do I do it?
Just got the upgrade from 2012 to 2013 AutoCAD. When I opened the file from 2012 to 2013 for editing, my sub-xref file become "Unreferenced". The main Xref is loaded and fine. I tried to reload it but it doesn't work, and only its text path that are shown in there. It seems that the sub-xref file is in the right path when I trying to verify it location. So, what I did was use my old 2010 Autocad to finish my task which work fine. Why my sub-xref is in "unreference"condition using 2013 AutoCAD.?
I know that in ACAD you can use the xref manager to see where the actual file for the xref resides on your computer/server/etc. What I'm curious about is whether or not the inverse action is possible. Can you somehow access the file (not the output sheet where it's being xref-ed) and see what other files are using it as an xref?
I've come in on a project that is nearing completion and have been assigned the task of "cleaning up the project folder." Unfortunately, there are a ton of files in the different folders that are no longer in use on the final output sheets and I need to keep the ones still in use and archive the ones that are no longer needed. What I've been doing is going through those sheets and reviewing the xref manager for each sheet to see which files are actually put onto those sheets and making a physical checklist from which to organize my findings. Once the checklist is made, I then archive all the files that are no longer being used.
As I recall, in previous versions of AutoCAD, when I am in the Layer Properties Manager and I click on an xref under the Xref heading, the only layers shown were the ones in that xref, not all.
That is what is happening now. I cannot seem to find any setting under the settings for the Layer Properties Manager that would change this.
Do the people that develop (anti-endusers ) the upgrades ever think like an end user? Having the Layer Properties Manager set up with default filters that show "ALL" layers or "Xref" layers without a default for "Layers Local ONLY" is so counterintuitive and non-user friendly! This is just another example of how Autodesk has absolutely no regard for the end user.
We have a procedure of detaching Xref's from any drawing on our project to minimize Navisworks load time.
Is there a way to save a list of xref’s that are in your drawing so the next time I go back to that drawing I can just pick on the saved list and it will pull up all those xref’s??
We load a composite of over 2000 models. The drawings that contain xref's in them increase load time so we have to detach all xref's from the drawings before we save to minimize this load time.
I opened a drawing this morning that was sent to me by another office. I tried to open the layer property manager and it gave me a message that there were more layer filters than layers and that I should delete some of the filters. I said ok, but the property manager dialog box never opened. Now I can't open the layer property manager dialog box in any of my drawings.
I'm fairly new to Autocad and getting used to using sheet set manager. What I'm experiencing is, when you insert a model view it brings in an xref of that model, but i'm then unsure how to add additional xref models into the same view.
For example I have a separate ground floor plan file and OS data file which I want to show in the one sheet view without nesting the OS data to the original ground floor file.
I'm trying to reload a bunch of xref's through the project support path that I have setup, Really the project support path should be able to reload all the xref if they are already there. The problem is that the xrefs that im trying to reload ( the staus: says Unfreferenced and the type: Attachment) and when I type in the project name and then reload the xrefs, they should be able to find and link the xref to the drawing, but Im getting a a message saying that the xrefs are Orphaned and the status is Unreferenced. Its as though the system cant seem to find the xrefs with my projectname support path that I have setup.
There are some layers in my drawing that won't delete in the layers properties manager. I don't know why. It gives me 4 possible reasons:
- It might be layer 0 or a Defpoint (whatever that is). - It is the current layer - It is an Xref dependent layer - It is a layer containing objects
But none of these, to my knowledge, apply. There could be things on the layer that I'm just not seeing, but I've looked thoroughly. I even zoomed out to the extents, highlighted the whole area, and clicked the erase tool, but it still won't go away. I got the file from another computer, so it might be an Xref dependent layer and the Xref'ed files just didn't come with it. How would I be able to tell - and how could I remove the Xref dependency?
Other than that, is there any other reason a layer won't delete? Can I force it to delete?
I'm messing around with tables and data links, practicing. I copied a range of cells in Excel, and did paste special to create a linked table.
Now I can delete the table object, but I cannot delete the link, cannot detach it.
When in Data Manager if I right click on the data link and click delete I get the error message "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted".
I have tried detaching, and the detach does not seem to take.
Now also, the table will not update from the source xls.
Win XP, AcadLT 2011, Office 2010. Using compatible setting for saving spreadsheet, for Office 2007 (not xlsx).
If I create a linked table by starting with the Table icon, choose "from a data link", choose the excel spreadsheet, etc., then I am able to later update the table from the spreadsheet, detach, delete the link, etc. But I can only delete the link if the table is not selected when I open the Data Link Manager.
But the one that was created following the directions from the Autocad video, with the copy, paste special, that link will not detach nor delete.
there are dozens of files in the sub-folders but nothing in the main folder.I also looked at the events viewer and found 1 error; that v. of Quicktime was newer so installation would not proceed (but I presume this refers only to QT installation, not overall).I'm running W7 -64-bit on quad-core intel with 3 gigs RAM & 1.5 TB hard drive. Nvideo 8500GT video.
Is there a way to get rid of the unreferenced image files from a drawing from the command line. I have thousands of dwgs to batch edit using a script and Script Pro and need to automate the "right click and detach" on the command line.
Most of the interior walls in the house are the same materials and finishes - finishes of veneer plaster painted, but rooms are to be differnent colors. I can make a wall the color that I want, but ALL that type walls become that color. Is there any way to make several different colors of rooms witihout creating literally dozens of different wall types?
Is it possible to run a lisp which can extract all the xref names, make a layer with that name and then change the xref on the layer? I have got a similar routine from earlier posts but it doesn't work if any xrefs inserted in paper space (works fine on model space). could change this routine allowing to change the layer of xref in paper space too.
(defun dxf (i a) (cdr (assoc i a))) (defun c:lxr ( ) (setq ss (ssget "x" '((0 . "INSERT"))))
I am using (trying to anyway) a :VLR-xrefSubcommandReloadItem reactor. My only question is how to get the xref/block name from the 'reactor callback data' Object ID.
I am ultimately trying to pass it to (vla-get-xrefdatabase ....), but I cannot figure out how to turn the second parameter from the reactor callback data into something I can use - for example the second parameter returned may be "65" or some other number.
when you bind an xref the link disappears from the xref manager.
is it possible to bind an xref, but preserve that link in the xref manager? i realize that will lead to two copies of the same object in the drawing (one xref, plus the new block). everyone's okay with that happening.
What a mess trying to attach two images! I finally got one image up - but when i tried to attach two, the second one only showed up as a number code. How to attach multiple images correctly.
How do I get the full Xref Path name instead of Xref.dwg? I'm scratching my head is this totally under my nose... cause I don't see where the property is stored. I'm getting EV_BDR.dwg instead of C:folderEV_BDR.dwg
In the manual is indicated that you can resize pictures (under the Share tab) to use them as eamil attacments and then put them in a folder to manually attach them to a message in the email client of your choice. Unfortunately I cannot find this option in the Organizer part of the program. Using the Fotomail or Adobe mail options is not possible in a Win 7 64 bits Outlook environment and I don't want to change to a 32 bit version of Outlook.
When using Windows Live Mail (Windows 8.1) to share a photo, PSE 12 will not send it as an attachment. It will send it as photo mail. We need to be able to do both.
The message I receive is "Elements Organizer could not finish creating your e-mail message."
