AutoCad :: Insert Separate Files In Model Space In Essence Creating Multiple Cut Lists For Drawing
Feb 22, 2013
working with acad 2012 and not having good luck with links and functionality with excel. tried the links manager, pasting excel/entities. trying to insert separate files in model space in essence creating multiple cut lists for the drawing. Is there a tutorial that goes in depth with this? just froze one file at work, lucked out and opened at home. Each cut list is an individual worksheet, which may be the problem.
I am in need of creating a solid drawing from my wireframe drawing in model space. I have never done any 3d modeling in autocad before it took me a few days just to get the wireframe of a staircase done! I have tried to render this object in viewport but it disappears after I click on it or move around, therefore I cannot see it in my paper layout. How do I make a rendered object stay? Also I want to plot this on 22x34in and 11x17in paper, how would I go about getting a high quality rendered image. I am using autocad 2010.
how to scale out these drawings. I have a CAD drawing using metric scale. This drawing has multiple title blocks. and each title block has its own scale. 1:500, 1:50, 1:150, 1:75. Now I make a block out of each title block and scale them out to find out if they plot out on the same sheet, and they do. Now, I still can't find out the scale factor to print them out to scale. I tried using using the scale shown in for each drawing for example 1:500 and it is super small when I do a print preview.
This morning the shop brought back a set of drawings and requested that I provide a cut list for the fab department. Our drawings consist of an assembly drawing and materials list on the first page with several individual parts on each of the following pages. I am looking at including a column in the ML for the operation ( laser, saw, shear) and sorting the list by it. However when I do this the Item Numbers on the list are all confused. If a person were to look at a balloon on a drawing and then attempt to find it in the list it would be difficult and time waster.
The questions.
1. Is there a way to renumber the item list after sorting the material?
2. If I place an assembly view off the edge of the sheet for each of the following sheets and then place a materials list on each sheet, is it possible to create a plugin that would find which parts are on the sheet and hide all the other parts on the list? I have just started going through the "my first plugin" tutorial and this sounds like a place where it should be useful but I don't know which tags I need to look for.
I am currently working on a product where I want to make 2 part lists in my drawing of the same assembly. The first parts list has to view all the parts that are always delivered with our product, and the second one has to show the optional parts and features that could be delivered with the product.
I want both lists to be categorized the same way (comments, material, name), I want the numbers of the list to be chronological (also I don't want the second parts list to start the numbering at 1) and I want both lists to stay connected with their balloons.
Is there any way this can be done, like adding or removing part links to the list manually?
I'm trying to import a drawing from a dwt file into a drawing as a new layout. This would be perfect if the model space objects associated with this dwt file would import as well.
I am having trouble scaling my drawing between model space and paper space. I have it drawn in model space at 1:1, and I set the viewport scale in paperspace to 1:15. However, it does not show up as 1:15. I have drawn a 50' line in model space. The viewport is 4" wide in paperspace, so you should be able to see the whole line in the viewport at a 1:15 scale, with some space on each side. However, it does not. I can only see a small fraction of the line.
I'm a current user of Inventor Professional 2013 and am in the process of migrating over to 2014, I've got almost everything sorted and am really liking some of the new features.
However, I have a major problem which is preventing me from using the new software full time. Have asked around and done several google searches but no one can provide an answer.
Basically, I send a lot of my drawings out for Lazer cutting, and they require a model space dwg file for there laser cutting machine, when I right click and select "Insert In Model Space" like I always did in 2013, and 2012 and all previous versions it worked fine and then can see the profile in model space tab. In 2014 however I get the error message "Invalid input for request". And nothing happens.
Paper space was just introduced the last time I used AutoCAD professionally. I didn't become familiar with it and it seemed like an unfathomable concept then; at least from the way it was explained to me.
So I did some drawing for this guy all in paper space...that was what first opened up in AutoCAD. After five hours and getting ready to send the files, I realize that maybe I should a done it in model space. Is it really going to make that much of a difference? If he wanted me to redo it in model space .
how to print two separate A2 drawings side-by-side in A1 paper space on an HP plotter? I'm assuming that this would be handled by a third party print management software or something along these line. I'm looking for any solution to save on paper!
I am currently designing oil pipe gauges, So the sizes are all out of a standard and therefore I can use the parametric manger, and create parameters match them with the right dimension and we have our drawing.
Now for each gauge, I am going through creating a separate drawing and typing in the selected data for that gauge, is there any way to link parametrics manager to look up from a table for the selected data, instead of me typing through each separate gauge data.
I am working on AutoCAD 2013LT and I tried to use multiple viewports in model space which is a new thing to AutoCAD (i think). Anyway I wasn't using it on the last version.
Under View Tab when I go to choose different Viewport configurations sometimes some of the views change to isometric view. I don't know how to change it back to 2d view.
They mension something about viewport control lables which should be in top left corner, but I don't see those in my viweports.
I have always been able to highlight separate objects in model space, and now i can only do one at at time??? I click on the second object, and the first one stops being highlighted.
I don't know if somehow i changed a setting on accident, but i don't know how to get it back to be able to do multiple separately.
If I have UPSFOLLOW set to '1' when using multiple viewports in the workspace when I click from one viewport to another it refreshes the viewport that I'm leaving with the setting of the viewport I select. If I set UPSFOLLOW to '0' it doesn't happen. Is there a way of stopping this happening without having to keep changing the UPSFOLLOW setting i.e. have UPSFOLLOW set to '1' and the viewports not change when swapping them?
I have received a drawing that is only showing in the first layout tab on a contractor's template. The drawing is in a viewport of course. The drawing does not show in the model space.
1. Is it possible to send a drawing only in the Layout tab? 2. Is it possible for me to do something to view the drawing in model space and how is it done? 3. Could it simply be a compatibility issue between the contractor's.
1.how to differentiate the one drawing in model space using mm and the other one using cm, other one is using m?
2. am confused to know how to configure the units setting, and if someone set mm or cm in modal space does the auto-CAD detect the respective unit setting? e.g. one is using mm and he/she offset 1 unit, say mm, and suddenly i want to change the one unit offset to be m or cm, how does it work?
3. if some one has drawn in m, and i want copy and paste in new MS but i want continuing using different units say mm how does it work?
I need to run two reports one for Cut and Fill, and one for Materials (shapes). I would like two material lists for the same alignment and sample line group.
The process, setup the materials list for Pave, Base, and Subbase. Generate report, delete list and setup for Cut and Fills, run the report. You do this over and over. Autodesk please add a way to save and import these setups, and a way to create multiple lists for each alignment and sample line group.
Note: Why the Civil 3d default for the interlude into the actual Compute Materials dialogue is Pave, Subbase, Base is beyond me, could someone tell the programmers that Subbase is generally below Base. Each time I have to delete the CIvil 3D defaults and redo this step.
i'm working on a drawing started by someone else. They do everything in model space...no paperspace and no viewports. drawing and border are both in model space. I'm not used to just model space.
How do i set the scale of the drawing in model space? do i need to use different size borders to get the correct scale? I'm drawing everything 1:1 and i need my final prints to be on 11x17 paper.
on a previous drawingi see that they used a scale of 1/16"=1' but how they determined this scale. going thru other sheets in the setd of drawings it seems that they used different border sizes (but all are printed on 11x17 paper)...some are printed not to scale if they have no set scale...like details.
example of what i need to do:
I need to show a building rooftop plan view (the entire rooftop) on one sheet. on the next sheet i need to zoom into a portion of the rooftop.
normally i would use viewports to do this. but in model space i dont see how this is done. do i need to have a set of different size borders? but how then can i print them on 11x17 without using "scale to fit"?
is there any point when you set up a new drawing in setting the drawing limits.
For example I am about to draw up a house plan at scale 1:100 which will be plotted on an A3 sheet. I envisage the floor plans will be on one A3 and the Elevations will be on another A3 sheet. Sections will go on another A3. I will have approx 6 paper sheets set up for this. I plan to draw the whole lot in model space. Then move it around in paper space so each item is on a seperate sheet.
Is this the correct way to do it. If it is, then what is the point of having drawing limits in Model space? The books I have, say it is good drafting practice to set up limits. But I can't see why Also what is the point of setting up the grid display when half the time you draw right off the grid?
I'm having a problem with Zoom Extent on a poticular drawing. when zooming normally with the scroll wheel it will work with no problems at all.
When I do a Zoom Extents everything in the Model window disapears even the viewcube and small tool bar and minimize and close buttons. but if i go to where the minimzie and close is and click my mouse picks up the command.
If i do a undo i get everything back.
Before Zoom Extents before ZE.jpg
After Zoom Extents blank window.jpg
Would this be a system varible or a driver issue. it only seems to do it with this drawing and when this drawing is Xref'ed into another drawing.
I have purged, audit and checked scales. but i'm still getting this problem.
I have started to use Selection Set Manager for drawing previewing and publishing. I was moving drawings that are one to one to paper space to allow SSM usage but I recently found that my client does not want me moving drawings to paper space. He wants to keep his drawings in model space for one to one drawings (electrical schematics, one lines etc).
I'm trying to get a drawing flipped round in model space so it fits more neatly in a viewport. I need to rotate the model space by about 45 degrees so that a line that looked about 45 degree slope up from left to right becomes a flat line.
I've been trying to use 'ucs' in the command line and then type the degree rotation as this is what it says in the help section but it doesnt do what i want. It asks for an origin point on the x-axis and then i dont know what this means.
