AutoCad :: How To Add Dimensions To Architectural Drawing In Model Space

Feb 22, 2007

I have to add dimensions to an architectural drawing in model space

The file is drawn in decimal units (1unit=1meter)

Now I have been asked to ad dimensions in feet and inches to the drawing in order to make it usable to UK

I know that the solution is to use alternate units with Architectural units format, but how mach is the multiplier that I have to use?

I have no experience in British metric system.

So I left the multiplier 25.4 as AutoCAD prompt.

2.81 meters equals to 5'-11 1/4” ?

I’m using AutoCAD 2007

AutoCad 2D :: Dimensions In Model Space Vs Paper Space?

Nov 12, 2012

We are debating an issue here where I work. I work in the following way, once my drawing is all done and I've created my viewports, I lock it and do all my dimensionning annotive and in model space by passing thru my view port, my co worker him, he works with view ports also but does his dimensioning on the paper space layout and not in annotative.

Dimensions in model space or dimensions on the paper space? While I got your attention what is your opinion on annotative dimensioning?

AutoCAD LT :: All Dimensions In Model Space Change?

Sep 22, 2011

I'm using autocad 2007:

I draw a detail 1 in model space and put dimensions on it say at a overall scale of 1.00, now I draw a detail 2 and change the overall scale to 5.00 and put dimensions on that detail but when I look at detail 1 all my dimension have changed to the 5.00 scale.  Where I'm changing the scale is under the tab Format/Dim. Style/Modify/Fit/use overall scale of ..... How can I keep the dimensions from changing when I change the scale this way?  I know it can be done because I've work on several dwgs. and changing the overall scale doesn't change on every detail in the model space.

I always say the best place to put the dimension is the model space especially when you now have the annotation scale to control it.

AutoCad 2D :: Scaling Drawing Between Model Space And Paper Space

Apr 30, 2012

I am having trouble scaling my drawing between model space and paper space. I have it drawn in model space at 1:1, and I set the viewport scale in paperspace to 1:15. However, it does not show up as 1:15. I have drawn a 50' line in model space. The viewport is 4" wide in paperspace, so you should be able to see the whole line in the viewport at a 1:15 scale, with some space on each side. However, it does not. I can only see a small fraction of the line.

AutoCad :: Drawing Paper Space / Model Space

Jun 21, 2011

Paper space was just introduced the last time I used AutoCAD professionally. I didn't become familiar with it and it seemed like an unfathomable concept then; at least from the way it was explained to me.

So I did some drawing for this guy all in paper space...that was what first opened up in AutoCAD. After five hours and getting ready to send the files, I realize that maybe I should a done it in model space. Is it really going to make that much of a difference? If he wanted me to redo it in model space .

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Fix Space Between Dimensions In Drawing

Jun 27, 2012

I  use parametric base-model which automatically generates drawing (look "Pic1"). I change parameters I need and new drawing is generated (scale stays the same). However, dimensions on new drawing are displayed in random way (look "Pic2"). Is there a way (iLogic, VBA or smth els) to fix/link dimensins so - that they could stay in an appropriate way (space between dimensions, space between dimension and edge, dimension is centered on line with arrows) when the model size is changed (in this example I have changed the base diameter from 830 to 1280)?

Function "Arrange dimension" does not solve the problem!

1.   Is it possible to send a drawing only in the Layout tab?
2.   Is it possible for me to do something to view the drawing in model space and how is it done?
3.   Could it simply be a compatibility issue between the contractor's.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Scaling Drawing In Model Space

Dec 19, 2012

i'm working on a drawing started by someone else. They do everything in model space...no paperspace and no viewports. drawing and border are both in model space. I'm not used to just model space.

How do i set the scale of the drawing in model space? do i need to use different size borders to get the correct scale? I'm drawing everything 1:1 and i need my final prints to be on 11x17 paper.

on a previous drawingi see that they used a scale of 1/16"=1' but how they determined this scale. going thru other sheets in the setd of drawings it seems that they used different border sizes (but all are printed on 11x17 paper)...some are printed not to scale if they have no set scale...like details.

example of what i need to do:

I need to show a building rooftop plan view (the entire rooftop) on one sheet. on the next sheet i need to zoom into a portion of the rooftop.

normally i would use viewports to do this. but in model space i dont see how this is done. do i need to have a set of different size borders? but how then can i print them on 11x17 without using "scale to fit"?

AutoCad :: Point Of Drawing Limits In Model Space?

Oct 17, 2006

is there any point when you set up a new drawing in setting the drawing limits.

For example I am about to draw up a house plan at scale 1:100 which will be plotted on an A3 sheet. I envisage the floor plans will be on one A3 and the Elevations will be on another A3 sheet. Sections will go on another A3. I will have approx 6 paper sheets set up for this.
I plan to draw the whole lot in model space. Then move it around in paper space so each item is on a seperate sheet.

Is this the correct way to do it. If it is, then what is the point of having drawing limits in Model space? The books I have, say it is good drafting practice to set up limits. But I can't see why Also what is the point of setting up the grid display when half the time you draw right off the grid?

AutoCad :: Model Space - Zoom Extent On Particular Drawing

I'm having a problem with Zoom Extent on a poticular drawing. when zooming normally with the scroll wheel it will work with no problems at all.

When I do a Zoom Extents everything in the Model window disapears even the viewcube and small tool bar and minimize and close buttons. but if i go to where the minimzie and close is and click my mouse picks up the command.

If i do a undo i get everything back.

Before Zoom Extents
before ZE.jpg

After Zoom Extents

Would this be a system varible or a driver issue. it only seems to do it with this drawing and when this drawing is Xref'ed into another drawing.

I have purged, audit and checked scales. but i'm still getting this problem.

AutoCad 2D :: How To Dimension A 1/8" Drawing (in Model Space)

Aug 2, 2011

I am trying to dimension a 1/8" drawing (in model space) and the text height on the dimensions is so small it is not even readable. I have tried modifying the dimstyle to have an "Overall Scale" of 96 (under 'Fit') and a "Scale Factor" of 1 (under 'Primary Units') and vice versa, but neither is working. I have never had this problem before. I am working in AutoCAD Architecture 2010. Also, when i try to dimension this in paper space, the size comes out ok but it is saying a 6' line is 576'... I would rather dimension in model space anyway but what's up with this? I realize 6 times 96 is 576 but how do you get it to be the right length in paper space?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Defaults To Paperspace While Drawing In Model Space?

Mar 25, 2013

We have just loaded AutoCAD 2013 from previously using Version 2012, and I am experiencing a very distubing phenomenon.  While manipulating the commands in any vieport window in Model Space, the program automatically 'jumps' into Paper Space causing an interruption in work-flow, and losing any command which was in progress during the time. For example, if a number of objects were copied with the intention of placing them elsewhere within the same or another paper space window in 'model space' , the program would jump to paper space and the items would be lost, with the necessity of selecting them all over again.  This can happen several times in a row.
