AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Model - Dimensions Of Assembly In IDW Drawing

Jul 2, 2013

I have a automated ilogic model that is then used within a 2D drawing, this 2D drawing then has dimensions on it referenced to the the model.

This model changes in its length the dimension associated with its length then changes but the dimension text then goes outside of the dimension boundary (does not stay central). Is there any code that can scan the dimensions and in effect tidy them up?

I want to retrieve dimensions in a drawing with ilogic. I found some code but how to translate it into a ilogic code.

I always use assembly models in these drawing and all the parameters have unique names. So in my drawing i want to retrieve some specific dimensions in a view.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Placed View Of Assembly In IDW Drawing - No Dimensions

Sep 21, 2012

Recently when I have placed a view of an assembly into an idw drawing, then try to dimension distances between parts it gives me strange looking dimensions, or no dimensions at all.  It looks as though the dimensions are going from the edges of each part at different angles, when I want them to be parallel to the view.  I just want the dimension from a line to a line in that view as though it is 2d, but it is acting like it is still in 3d. I do not know if their is a setting that will change this or not.

I attached a screen shot of what the dimensions look like.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Update And Save Assembly Through ILogic In Drawing?

Jul 10, 2013

as a part of automating manufacturing drawings, am trying to include ilogic code in the drawing , that would accept values from the user and store it as "user parameters" and make corresponding changes in the inventor drawing file. So, to replicate my issue on a smaller scale, i had created 2 parts and created an assembly out of these 2 parts. I used the assembly in my drawing.

In the Drawing i created a user parameter .. say "external_param". I am opening the drawing and changing the value of the user parameter through the (Fx) parameter table.

doc = ThisDoc.DocumentIf external_param >= 50 And external_param <= 99 ThenParameter("block_1.ipt.d0") = 15 'change the length of the blockParameter("block_1.ipt.d14") = 3 'change the number of holes in the blockElseIf external_param >= 100 And external_param <= 199 ThenParameter("block_1.ipt.d0") = 40Parameter("block_1.ipt.d14") = 5ElseIf external_param >= 200 And external_param <= 299 ThenParameter("block_1.ipt.d0") = 80Parameter("block_1.ipt.d14") = 6ElseIf external_param >= 300 And external_param <= 399 ThenParameter("block_1.ipt.d0") = 160Parameter("block_1.ipt.d14") = 9End IfRuleParametersOutput()iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = True'InventorVb.DocumentUpdate()

As you can see, i have commented out InventorVb.DocumentUpdate() , im not quite sure what would accomplish the update and save of the assembly document in the background (without prompting for a save/update). I have also tried thisDoc.Save and thisdoc.update. Using these 2 commands along with the InventorVb.DocumentUpdate() or iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone caused Inventor to Crash.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Open And Update Drawing From Assembly Via ILogic

Nov 12, 2012

The right click context menu on the top level assembly (on the model tree in Inventor) has the option of 'Open Drawing'.

Is there a way to do that via iLogic? Unfortunately I can't figure it out if there is. I would like to open and update the relevant drawing.

Also have tried it the other way around, that is to run my rues in the assembly from the drawing since the drawing is the parent. But I am not sure how to reference the assembly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using ILogic To Retrieve IProperties Form Model Into Drawing?

Jun 7, 2012

I'm trying to put a little iLogic rule in my drawing template which triggers as soon as the drawing is opened.  The rule asks the user whether the component he's making a drawing of needs to be painted or not.  If it gets painted, the paint area (one side only or both sides) needs to be calculated.  The result of this is then referenced by a text note in the title block.

I can do the radio boxes with the questions, as well as their If loops, but only when I'm in the model.  Due to our, admittedly inefficient workflow, we never have time to specify "minor details" like paint area or spec during modelling, only when we get to drawing level.  I'd like to put the iLogic rule inside the drawing template.  I'm having trouble referencing the iProperties of the model from within the drawing's iLogic interface.

What I have so far is this rule, which I can run inside the model:

'set dummy variable equal to total areatotal_area = iProperties.Area'start radio box with questionsText1 = InputRadioBox("Will this component be painted?", "Yes", "No", Text1, Title := iProperties.Value("Project", "Description"))If Text1 = True ThenText2 = InputRadioBox("How many sides will be painted?", "Both sides", "One side only", Text2, Title := iProperties.Value("Project", "Description"))If Text2 = True TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "Paint Area") = total_areaElseIf Text2 = False TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "Paint Area") = total_area/2End IfElseIf Text1 = False TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "Paint Area") = 0End If

adding a line or two so that I can run the same rule, but from the drawing.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Extract Rev Of A Model (part Or Assembly) From Drawing

Dec 7, 2012

I'm trying to extract the Rev of a model (part or assembly) from a drawing.  Since Inventor has independent revs for the model and idw I am trying to drill down and put the rev from the model referenced.  I got it to work for ipts and many iams using:

Dim oModelDoc As Document
Set oModelDoc = oDocument.Sheets(1).DrawingViews(1).ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.ReferencedDocument

The problem I have is when the drawing only references an ipn presentation file.  The ipn ALSO has it's own independant rev!  I'm trying access the model the ipn references but cannot get it to work.

BTW, I do know about the ability to sync idw and ipt properties.  I have enable it for our template but we have a lot of legacy drawings that don't have this option selected.  I also haven't tested that method with an drawing that only references an ipn.

Code is below with offending section in bold:

' Find model (part or assembly) referenced by drawing if active document is a drawing
If oDocument.DocumentType = kDrawingDocumentObject Then
Dim oModelDoc As Document
Set oModelDoc = oDocument.Sheets(1).DrawingViews(1).ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.ReferencedDocument

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Model Dimensions To Fill LENGTH / WIDTH Fields In Drawing Parts List

Mar 1, 2013

In our “Parts list” (or BOM as we call it) on our .idw’s we have field for “LENGTH”. For example, we use round tubing. We would list the cut length of that piece of tube in the “LENGTH” column. As it stands now, we add “LENGTH” as a custom iproperty in the .ipt. Then in the drawing we add that property to the parts list to capture the length. This works fine, but I’m wondering if we can eliminate some steps by capturing the actual dimension from the sketch to automatically populate the “LENGTH” value. Needless to say, this would eliminate room for error (less typing) and will update the value automatically if length is changed or if the part is copied. I suppose the same would apply for “WIDTH” on sheet metal parts... How do I do this?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom IProperties Not Updating In Drawing When Update Assembly Model?

Nov 19, 2012

I'm using Inventor 2011 and when I go to change parameters using iLogic in an assembly model, (sometimes it is a component suppression, other times it is an iPart component change) it won't update the associated drawing file. I need to go into the BOM on the drawing and renumber the balloons, or change something else in order for the custom iProperties to update in the drawing template. If I just change the iPart component, then the BOM doesn't need to update making the renumbering of balloons redundant.

I'm using iLogic to update all of the iProperties and component references, then reattach balloons. What I would like to do is automatically update the custom iProperties drawing template fields, and renumber the drawing BOM.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Assembly Has Double User Request At Inserting In Assembly

Sep 18, 2012

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.

1. Start a Rule after open document.

2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.

3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.

4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component

5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter

Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:

1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive

2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive

It don't work with the following situation:

- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault

Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.

I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.

change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

I have no experience in British metric system.

So I left the multiplier 25.4 as AutoCAD prompt.

2.81 meters equals to 5'-11 1/4” ?

Now the doubt is, to get the things easier, is there a way to put some code in the assemblies, that could sum all the properties "X" from each part and sub assembly to get the total net weight ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Rules In Assembly

Oct 3, 2011

I am very new to this whole concept of having ilogic based rules to drive your part design. I have even gotten as far as creating a ipart and having ilogic rules be able to suppress, unsuppress, change values and dimensions using ilogic rules. I now want to be able to use ilogic rules to drive some of the various(yet similiar) assemblies that I create all the time.

For instance, If I have just a flat plate as the base component with a shaft welded to it that varies in length for my assemblies. Since the shaft varies in length, I went ahead and created iparts for all the lengths of the shafts. I can manually change which shaft I want represented in the assembly, but I would like to to know how do I get Ilogic to place the different shafts based on user parameters???

I've looked into component place iparts, but can't seem to get the code to work. The list of iparts tree within the model doesn't pop up in the model tab in the ilogic rule, only the base component.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Driven From Sub Assembly

Jul 1, 2013

I have a parent assembly that contains multiple sub assemblies, two of which need to synchronize with each other. In the parent assembly, I have created a user form that controls the sizes and quantities of all the different sub assemblies.

Sub assembly 1 contains a bracket for supporting 4 rows of pipes.Based on the width selected from the main parent assembly, the length of this bracket can vary.

The spacing of the 4 mounting positions is also determined from the length of the bracket.Sub assembly 2 is an assembly containing all the pipes. The pipes are spaced apart to suit the bracket using a component pattern, and it is this distance that I want to control from the parent  assembly. This is just one of the basic scripts I've tried.

Pipe_Spacing=Parameter("SubAssembly1:1", "Pipe_Spacing_A")

Parameter("Piping assembly:1", "Pipe_Spacing_B")=Pipe_Spacing
Pipe_Spacing_A is the spacing of the bracket
Pipe_Spacing_B is the component pattern in the piping assembly
Pipe_Spacing is the parameter in the parent assembly to be driven by the bracket parameters.

I have very little iLogic experience & have being learning as I go along with this project. My best guess is that the code can't loop back on itself. On a slightly different note, I have also noticed that the sub assemblies don't update properly.

If I adjust the width to X and regenerate the model, some of the sub assembly updates. To fully update, I have to go back into the user form, change the size to Y & then change it back again to X and then regenerate.
