AutoCad :: How To Model Object In Orientation
Jan 30, 2012It's been awhile since I've had to do orthographic projection. Is it frowned upon to model an object in an orientation other than the intended installation orientation?

View 6 RepliesI like to attach a .aim or import a inventor DWG into a section and a plan in autocad.
But how do I select the right orientation on import? The default Inventor view is a sideview and won't work on a plan.
Right now it seems like I either have to go into 3D model view and rotate the object or have to change the orientation Inventor for plan and then reorientate it for section...
Is there a feature that Illustrator remembers the original orientation of the object being rotated?

If I hit plot at this point, my colour dependent .ctb file works fine. However, once I swtich to model view, all my linework turns white and if I switch back to Layout view it remains white and plots each line with the weight assigned to the colour white.

Typically, I design 3d parts (model tab), then in the layout tab set up viewports (mview), and dimension in paper space...

Is there any way that i can stretch an Obj that was created as a block right in model space? in another word i usually right click on the block and go to the block editor and stretch inside the editor, i don't want to do that i have reference point in model that i want to snap end point to the reference. As in the pic i want to stretch the right leg to the right 7.5 in.

Ive been reading around online and they say use scale/ref, however i noticed by giving the ref length, it does lengthen the object to the ref length, but the height's off!
Without opening the drawing...
How can I iterate through and check the object type of all objects in model space? And... then delete them if they are certain types... like lines, circles, polylines, text, mtext, etc?
I am making a film and I am wondering if there is any way I can manipulate models and make it look like they crack in half etc.
For ex., I have a helicopter in a scene and it get's shot. Is there anyways I can change/animate the helicopter to look realistically blown up to peices? Not cheesy blow up - like blowing up to blocks and such, but into realistic, organic, pieces.
Creating a particular object for use in a revit project. I have attached a group of images.
In short, it is an arched wall that is made up of a series of masonary objects (6types), each with the same dimensions, the only difference being they have different openings. The objects just need to be represented as a solid masonary for now. The individual objects need to be shuffled around the arch to test different configurations.
Would the best approach be to develop the objects as generic model families?
im still trying to make a minigun following the tutorial but ive run into a problem, in the tutorial the "paint object" tool is used to implement screws into the model and make it more realistic. i have 3DS MAX 2010 and i believe that tool was introduced in 2011. what should i use instead? is there a plug in or something to get that tool in 2010? or is there some other way i should go about this?
remember im not continuing with my tutorial until i get past this speedbump

I have linked a food service RVT model that has 1000+ pieces of specialty equipment. I've copy/pasted the tags from their file to mine. Now I want to be able to type in a tag number and have revit 'zoom to it'. Or I'd like to be able to make a schedule and use 'Highlight' option - but nothing seems to work because the elements are in a linked file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI feel like I have a vague memory of once learning how to click on an object in a viewport and being able to click a button or use a command to switch that object to paper space (so that it appears the same size). I'm trying to avoid having to go through the steps to scale down the object once I get it in paper space).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was given an iges file of a 3d structure that needs to be layed out in 2d. I was able to import the iges file into inventor and then output a dwg file. I then tried to import this dwg file into autocad to draw the 2d layout, but I am unable to copy it into autocad in the correct orientation. I have the correct orientation when i produce the dwg files from inventor. how can i import them into a single dwg file at the correct orientation?

When I import DWG og iam I get the front view and not top view..
Also a subasemmbly has lost the rotation made in the main assembly..
Why is it when I select the Top (XZ Plane) does the sketch orient itself so TOP is read upside down? Subsequent Sketches on a TOP face yields expected results.
And it is also true that it if I select Right (XY) the sketch orients itself so RIGHT reads top to bottom? and if I rotate the cube orientation so TOP is truly on top, the Constrain Axis' are off by 90º? yet if I subsequently select the RIGHT face for a sketch, it yields expected results (RIGHT reads from left to right).
This cannot be the way it is supposed to be. it although has been this way for may versions.

A client gave us a file in which the drawing in model space has an orientation wherein the N is in positive y-axis. But if I go to layout (viewport), the orientation of the drawing is different, N is 45 deg from the x-axis. How does the orientation of a drawing in layout (viewport) changed without changing the original orientation of the drawing in model space?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to write a tool using the .NET API (C#) that will allow me to select a block that currently exists in the drawing, and then select a line, and the tool would calculate the necessary axis of rotation and the amount of rotation to rotate the block into the same orientation as the line. Both the block and the line might be skewed in 3 dimensions. The use case for a tool like this might be for drawing a tubular space frame. I would first define nodes and center lines for the frame, and then have a block of a standard structural member. I want to insert that member multiple times and "snap" it to a center line. I tried using Alignment Parameters.
However, these don't seem to work in all cases. I need to (or rather, SHOULD be able to) create a tool that allows me to re-align an existing block currently inserted into the drawing into a new orientation in 3D using any arbitrary line as a reference line. Clearly this can be done because it is done all the time in Inventor. A similar feature seems to not exist in Autocad.
In order to do this I believe I need to choose some vector to use as a reference within the block. For example, I might choose the BlockReference.BlockTransform.CoordinateSystem3d.Xaxis, and then rotate this vector so that it is equal to whatever reference line I have chosen. The problem I am encountering (and that I think many have encountered) is in understanding how to use the BlockTransform correctly to arrive at the points I need to do the necessary vector calculations to determine the axis of rotation and the degree of rotation such that I can call the BlockReference.TransformBy() method correctly and reliably.
Many posts say to "Use BlockTransform" but then don't go into any detail. There seem to me many pitfalls around when one can use the BlockTransform matrix, and on which objects, and what the results are likely to be based on one's current UCS etc.
You can control the orientation of holes on a PCD while working in Isometric, but it's an intricate and tedious piece of projection.

How to keep the location and orientation of the “text” to the left of the “mirrored” elements?
In the screenshots below, I wanted to mirror the drawing but still I need to have the “text” to the left of the mirrored objects with the same settings and orientation.
Is there a way to do that?
To overcome this particular need, I mirror the drawing in the regular way then playing abit to let the text appears the way I like them to be.

I have been working with dynamic blocks - windows and doors - and I have trouble getting them into the right orientation and keeping them there.
My major problem is that when I try to move the hinge of the door to the door jamb the block orients itself any way it wants to go.
