how to put a 3D object on top of the another 3D object in autocad"! E.g.,I want to put a 3d object of one leaf (raised 1") on top of the vase, so that the edges of the leaf are placed completely on the surface of the vase.
I extruded the leaf 1" first, then tried to copy it on a solid cylinder of a vase, but it didn't work!!! It seems to be simple, maybe not!

Feb 21, 2012In model space I grab my tin, then object viewer. Everything comes up then immediately on rotating my vie win the object viewer the surface disappears.

Also I know you can use the the linear tool under Annotations to display dimensions of 2D lines. But I don't know how to do it so that it that shows the dimension on a vertical axis as shown in the picture below.

Mar 7, 2013Today I opened a file that has previously worked perfectly well, only to find that when I open my surface in Object Viewer and begin to rotate it manually, the triangles making up the surface do not appear. I have the contour lines and border (what is enabled in the Edit Surface Style/Display/Model tab) although the triangles (which should be displayed as well) do not appear. Other surfaces show like they should.
Is there another option other than the Edit Surface Style/Display/Model tab and the VISUALSTYLES command?

AutoCad 3D :: Creating Surface / Region Or 3D Object Using Non-coplanar Points
Aug 6, 2013How to go about creating a surface, region or 3D object using non-coplanar points? I'm drawing a few different 3D models for an artist friend of mine to use in her proposal on a local public art project.
However for this version I am bottlenecking on how to create these regions. I have vertical(ish) beams of varying height twisting in different directions with sheets of alternating metals welded in-between, the bottoms line up straight with the tops following an S curve but with the twisting geometry the top two endpoints for each will always be in separate planes.

Jul 30, 2013see attachment (object viewer capture). The top surface is my OG, the bottom surface is the bottom of excavation for a building. I want to project the perimeter of the building footprint up to the OG surface at a 1:5 slope. I remember in LDD the perimeter of a building, berm, dam, ditch...could be projected to the OG with specific slopes and then you could create a surface with the projected lines and do a volume calc. between the two. What is the procedure to do this in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012?

Oct 25, 2012is it possible to get the alignment name which the corridor surface is built from when the surface is being data referenced. in other word no corridor as the middleman.
the way i see it is when corridor suface is referenced, it becomes a regular surface and loses some properties such as parent alignment.
i am still using COM. maybe .net can do it? either way works.

AutoCad 3D :: Applying Surface / Turning Series Of Curves Into Solid Object
Mar 23, 2012I am currently working on a project that involves some basic collision simulation of an LNG ship in Solidworks. However, before I can do that I need to turn the ship (which at the moment exists as a series of curves, see attachment!) into a solid object, which I can then export as an IGES file.
So far I have tried the PRESSPULL command and it hasn't worked at all, only produced a "not responding message".

3ds Max Modeling :: Snap To A Surface Of Other Object
Jul 20, 2012I am trying to do a simple retopo modelling. In many other soft you only need to turn on snapping to get your retopo model vertexes/edges following a surface of a hi-res reference object.
Seems I can't do so in Max because it tend to snap to faces of the same object I am working on.
Is it possible somehow to snap to faces of other objects only so the currently edited object faces would be completely ignored/excluded/invisible for snapping?

Jun 21, 2013I have used Quad Draw to create geometry on the surface of an object, this geometry and its pivot can be seen in picture 1.I then try to mirror this geometry to the other side of the object's surface using the settings shown in picture 2
I get a mirror, but not based on the pivot, but it seems the mirrored geometry wants to be attached to the original drawn polys as shown on picture 3. Could it be a bug or is this how Quad Drawn objects are intended to behave?

Apr 9, 2012When rotating an object that will put any part of it outside the drawing surface, I get the following error-
Object position specified was not on drawing surface
This was never a problem for me with prior versions of Draw. Is there an option to allow Corel to do so with X6? The only workaround I've found is to temporarily increase the size of the work area, which is a bit of a pain when you're dealing with labels, not just page size.
New information: Just discovered that, if I group all elements, I can rotate them. The bug only occurs if I select (but don't group) them.

Dec 2, 2011I often have to do storm pond surfaces that (for the purposes of planning) are flat on the bottom. These surfaces are created from a combination of survey data and grading groups and the tin of these surfaces is perfectably acceptable. However, when contours are shown, the flat bottom is shown with contours jig-jagging all over the place.
The attached image shows a comparison of the same pond. The top was created with survey data and grading groups; the bottom was created using contour data only. The generated surface on the top shows the bottom contour going in different directions and has parts where the an expected contour is missing.
How to correct/manipulate the surface to show a proper flat surface?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Reduced Maximum Length For Surface Triangles Causes Surface Holes
Oct 22, 2012Has instances where you set your tolerance for the maximum triangle lenth to say 50m to reduce the amount of triangles along the edge that run at long distances. When I do this I end up with multiple surface holes and I'm not sure why as there are points in the area.
I thought well maybe it's because i should've reduced my max triangles first then added breaklines. Would this matter? I also thought I could add a line to the surface to fix the holes vs. deleting surface lines along the entire edge of a surface for many many miles.

Nov 14, 2012I am trying to add points into a surface. I have done this before without any problems, but now I am having issues.
When I ID points which makes up the surface it gives me the correct Z level e.g. 24.5m, however when I hover over the surface it shows me the surface name and a different z level e.g. 0.65m. What is the reason for this difference in z levels? I think this may be causing the issue I am having when I add new points.
I select the surface and use the 'edit surface command' in the ribbon, choosing add point.
When I add a point at the level I require(23.89m), it puts it in a lot higher than the surrounding area, so I tried to put the point in to the lower z levels (0.4m) it puts it in a lot lower!

how do I shrink labels? Where is it in the settings ; the Align folder had been check.

Oct 2, 2012I am issues with DEM files that I am downloading from the USGS website.I download 24k, elevation for the area I need. I then choose staged 1 second, add a surface to a blank drawing, then upload the DEM files to the surface.
The surface imports correcty, but when I try to import points taken by a surveyor on the same drawing, they plot incorrectly.The DEM surface and the points from the surveyor do not correspond. Also, the DEM surface is in meters, not feet. I have tried changing drawing settings, datum types, coordinate types, etc.

Apr 10, 2013how I can add more volume to curved object surface? Say for example I have a plastic cup.You can think of this as cylinder object ,which was the shelled out using the shell tool and then had its base sealed.
Now at certain parts, I would like to increase the thickness and then blend it the rest of the surface(may be chamfer its edges) .
At certain parts on curved surface I would like to add an extra mm, I think if the surface was flat I would just sketch the shape, then extrude it by few mm and smooth the edges by doing a chamfer
But how can this be done on surface that is curved? Or multi curved for edges?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ribs On Curved Surface / Trimming To Complex Surface

I have the board modeled: (see attached)
Now what i want to do is generate those ribs as seen in the picture.
I tried creating a block that intersected with the board and tried to split the rib at the surface, but to no avail. I think the issue has something to do with the curve of the board in two directions, but i can't seem to get it right.
if you are having trouble visualizing what i'm asking about, look at this. I want to be able to figure out the exact shape of those center ribs to print and eventually cut out of wood.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Import Surface Into Revit To Merge Surface And Buildings Together?
Jul 29, 2013I have a project involving 3 programs. I am creating a planned development in 3d to be 3d printed when finished. The project is a 5 acre tract containing 8 buildings. I have built the surface in C3D and each building in Revit. The buildings are not in the same Revit file. For my solid work, I will bring the files over into 3ds Max Design to section into smaller quadrants to build in the 3d printer.
The questions:
Would it be better to import the surface into Revit to merge surface and buildings together?
Would it be better to import the buildings into C3D to merge entities?
Would it be better to bring those entities into 3ds Max and then merge them into one? Will 3ds Max Design allow me to insert entities accurately in the environment?
