Is there a way to surface this geometry with a single surface entity?
I had to use 2 lofts to "surface it" instead of region due to lines being non-coplanar with the arc (in other words top most corner is higher than the other adjacent 3 corners).
I am having some issues with my corridor. It is for a 1.5 mile two lane section of highway. When I created the corridor, I used 15 assemblies. Now, when I try to create a corridor surface, I have issues. The file crashes when I try to load the surface.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Civil 2012 to create a surface for a landfill. I have UTM coordinates, and my elevations range from about 71m to 115m. When I create my surface using the points, I check the Surface Properties/Statistics, it appears the X,Y & Z coordinates have been scaled down by 3 decimal places. I'm using UTM coordinates to create the points.
Example:
Min elevation = 0.071m .... should be 71m
Min X = 481.510m etc. ... should be 481510.99 or something similar.
Units are set to meters.

How can I make an actual audio shaped and animated surface? So that a second or two of an audio file is visible and moves across a plane as a wave or ripple? Something quite often seen in graphics but seemingly quite difficult to make in max.
I do not want a simple audio controlled wave / ripple modified surface as this only has evenly spaced wave lengths and is not a representation of actual waveform data.
So far I have made an audio shaped spline out of an audio controller trajectory and can lathe or extrude this into an audio shaped surface.
But how can I make an animated to real sound surface?
I attached 3 pictures describing my problem.
On the first one you can see the feature lines i'm about to grade. The closed line is a pond and the two lines on the right is a riverbed. The area between them is just land.
On the second picture you can see a part of the surface i need to get by grading. I need the pond, riverbed and land to be one surface.
On the third picture you can see what happens, when i try to grade the riverbed under the same grading group. The pond surface disappears while the grading stays.
I have a 1 mile road topo coming up for design purposes. The curb is standard, but there is full curb & depressed curb. If you had your way from the CAD seat, what shots do you prefer?
Most accurate I've seen iis Centerline, Edge Pavement/Edge Concrete Gutter, Flowline Gutter, Face Curb, Back Curb. More fieldwork, but made a good product.
What I have seen is CL, EP, BC, then "let them just use a template" and several variations thereof.
I have never seen a good way to automatically offset from say BC only and handle depressed curb by field coding.
I'm uploading the .dwg and .txt files. I'm trying to get volume calcs cut and fill between two surfaces and when I compare the data between AGTEK's Highway 3D there is different results. I looked into it to find these random line appearing in Autocad making what seems to be the problem. Where are these coming from and how do I fix? Also, if you could anwser how can I insert a sectional following the 12'-23' offsets and dropping 1.16' down and adding it to my design surface. I want to make a big box there added to design surface.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to find the exact area of an irregularly shaped object? If there is, does the procedure work for compound paths (objects with holes in them)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday's challenge was to create an artificial reflection beneath an irregularly shaped object.
In the past I've been asked to add reflections where the reflection is simply a plane that cuts horizontally across the entire object (example 1), and where the object to be reflected is skewed (example 2) - both operations are pretty straight forward...
Example 3 is the object (a duvet) to which I had to add a floor reflection. I did come up with a solution, which I am reasonably happy with, but would love to see what methods other people use! I guess my attempt is OK because the texture and shape of the duvet is fairly forgiving!
Do you have a better method for these irregular floor reflections?
Example 4 is perhaps the trickiest I can imagine as the entire object is curved and the texture uniform so a bodge job will be very obvious!
Perhaps this can't easily be done in Xara - I imagine it could be painted in a bitmap package or rendered with a 3d package... or photographed with a reflection in the first place!

I've already started using the AutoCad 3D.
how to put a 3D object on top of the another 3D object in autocad"! E.g.,I want to put a 3d object of one leaf (raised 1") on top of the vase, so that the edges of the leaf are placed completely on the surface of the vase.
I extruded the leaf 1" first, then tried to copy it on a solid cylinder of a vase, but it didn't work!!! It seems to be simple, maybe not!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a student that downloaded and installed the 2013 student version of AutoCAD. She then opened a drawing we were working on in class (2012 standard version) and continued to work at home. She is able to save that drawing by clicking the save button on the Quick Access toolbar, however she is unable to "Saveas" that drawing to a different name or different release. The dialog box resets the file name to a file path on her C drive as soon as you move the mouse.
The same thing happens when she goes to make a block - she can type a block name in the window, but as soon as the mouse moves, the name changes to a block name already in the list.
I am trying to set up 400+ layers for a project I am currently woirking on and the wayI have been told to do this is through a script file.
I have created this but whenever I run it, the description will not show in Autocad 2013 - an extract from the scr file is below and I would love to find a solution or a fix to any error?
'-LAYER
N W-51CD-SEZE------------ C red W-51CD-SEZE------------ LT continuous W-51CD-SEZE------------ D DRAINAGE - EXISTING GRAVITY PIPE (PLAN/PROFILE/MODEL)
I have been using a dialog box with checkboxes for creating layers for the past 5 years now with minimal problems. I don't know much about VBA code, but when there is a problem, I can usually figure out what is going on, which is generally a typo the causes it to error. The code was created by an employee that left the company about 3 months after I started.
After installing acad 2013 and the VBA enabler this code only partially works. It will create the layer in the drawings, but will not set the color, linetype or the description. When I click on the checkbox for any of the layer checkboxes I get a "Run-time error '13': Type mismatch" error. I click on the "Debug" button which opens VBA, the "This Drawing.Layers.Add" line in the below code is highlighted.
As a troubleshooting effort, I tried retyping the ".Color" line, when I had typed out "m_refg_pipe_n." a drop-down box appears, but "Color" is not an option anymore. The only color option in the list is TrueColor, which we do not use. In the next line of the below code, "Description" is an option. So I am guessing that the ".Color" line of code is the problem.
Private Sub CheckBox101_Click()
Dim m_refg_pipe_n As AcadLayer
Set m_refg_pipe_n = ThisDrawing.Layers.Add("m-refg-pipe-n")
m_refg_pipe_n.Color = acGreen
m_refg_pipe_n.Linetype = "Hidden"
m_refg_pipe_n.Description = "MN - Refrigerant Piping"
End Sub

The company I work for recently updated a few of our computers with the SP2 for Civil 3D 2013. After this update, every time I create a surface profile, things get all messed up. Like I have done dozens of times before, I create the profile then open the profile creation tools. I am using the draw tangents with curves tool and as soon as I click my first tangent point, it shows up about an inch over to the left. I have struggled through and used the grips to edit after the fact but this used to be a VERY easy task. FYI my snap isn't on or anything goofy like that and when opened on a computer without the service pack, it works as it should.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter installing SP2 for 3ds Max 2011 (Windows 7, 64-bit), whenever I create a new object, the colour swatch in the 'Name and Color' rollout is always white, however, the actual colour assigned to each newly created object is not white, but is the same for all objects created (seems to be a different choice of colour after each restart of Max). If I click the colour swatch, 'Assign Random Colors' is checked and I can manually assign a different colour to the object I've just created and the colour swatch is updated to reflect my choice. If I continue creating new objects, the same colour as initially applied is assigned and the colour swatch is again white. If I uncheck 'Assign Random Colors' and create new objects, the colour swatch is again white and the same colour as initially applied is used.
