Dec 18, 2012Is it possible to create a title block in AutoCAD 2013 and have the option to select from a drop down list a Name and Address to place in a certain area of the title block?

Dec 6, 2011Age old question; Title Block Creation.
I took an existing title block out of another document and pasted it into my 'standard.idw' file, modified it, made it the default title block and it looks pretty good. Problem is, having saved the 'standard.idw' file it saved it under a project header and now everytime I open said new drawing I get the error that it is not part of my existing project. Obviously.
Is there a way to create this file, with my new title block and not get this error, supress or have it projectless?
Also, with that in mind my other problem, which I am sure is related, is that I put an image in my title block, which gives me e error that my picture is not located in the current project. Currently I bypass that one by hitting skip and it still retains my image, which is fine.
These two things together are slight annoying but I can live with it until I deduce a way to kill these errors.

AutoCad :: Title Block Template Drawing
Apr 5, 2011I created a standard title block template drawing for my student classwork exercises, and when I constructed the title block I keyed in real dimensions to ensure the title block would completely print on a piece of 8.5 X 11 paper. Now whenever I attempt to draw a large scale drawing (say a 36" dia circle, it draws the circle well outside my title block. I know why this is happening, I just need some tips about how to allow a title block template to be constructed around my current drawing reguardless of the drawing scale.

Apr 16, 2013I have previously drawn my title block in Model space but i now know the correct way is to draw it in the layout.
Is there anyway of transporting the title block template into the layout and then saving that as a template for my future drawings?
Or do I need to go back to the beginning and draw the title block again from scratch in the layout and then save that drawing as a template for future use?

Feb 26, 2013In the title block of a my layout template I have tables inserted for revisions, drawing type, numbering etc. I have type already inserted in those blocks that I typically click on and then type in what I need it to say. My template works on all my other drawings except a particular one that I am currently working on.
When I click on the type, it automatically increases from 3/16" to 8" and enlarges the box to accommodate the new font size.
I've attached a screen. The top is before I click on the word "type" in the lower right corner and the bottom one is afterward.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Edit Title Block Template Error?

They are trying to reuse their own customized template to other PCs, they are copying these files to the template folder of Inventor. This method is successfully done in all of their pcs except for the two.

Apr 2, 2012I was presented with a little renovation project and need to setup my own drawing. I've worked on CAD for a number of years while at a structural firm, an engineering firm and took classes in school but one thing I never had to do was setup was my own professional drawing from scratch. I know enough that it's crucial I start off on the foot. The engineering firm I worked at had everything ready so whenever I used CAD it was in an existing drawing or preparing a detail which the drafters imported. When I did some drafting work for an architect, he also had the drawing setup for me.
Since I'm now on my own I need to setup my own template drawing with a title block, layers, etc. Whats the best route for setting up my own sheets?
At my firm we always worked in a 1:1 scale & engineering units but since I'm doing floor plans for renovation work I plan on using the industry standard.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Shifting Location Of Template Border And Title Block
Jun 26, 2012We want to use our AutoCAD company standard templates within Inventor. I’ve followed the procedures to accomplish this under the heading:
Create a .dwg template in Autodesk Inventor from an AutoCAD .dwg template
This works without any problems. Inventor is able to recognize the size of our template border (20.75” x 33”) and correctly selects a sheet format of 24” x 36”. The template border is centered on the 24” x 36” sheet just as we would like it (see attached).
The template is used to create a new Inventor .dwg, and base views are placed and annotated. No problems, everything looks good. The new drawing is saved and Vaulted. However, at some point Inventor "shifts" the location of the template on the 24” x 36” sheet format (see attached). This action is unpredictable. The drawing might be checked-out and checked-in several times before the “shift” happens. When it does we have to re-locate the views and other text annotation to suit the new title block & border location.
How can we lock the position of the template border & title block? (Should be noted that we need to keep our template positioned such that the bottom left corner is at 0,0,0 when it is opened in AutoCAD.)

Jul 21, 2011I have made a template for my mapbooks and I got the main viewport, key viewport and adjacent map arrows to work great, but the title block is proving more difficult. I have tried it many ways, in a seperate drawing in model space which did not work, in the template as a block in a layout which came in, but did not allow me to edit any foelds unless exploded, etc, etc...

AutoCAD Architecture :: Project Fields In Title Block Sheet Template
Jun 26, 2012I've created a sheet template that includes Fields to populate the sheet with the Project Name and location among others like scale, etc. When I create the new sheet in the project navigator most of the fields populate with the correct information based on the parameters set in the project. However, it consistantly does not populate the Project name and location. When I click the field and ensure that the attribute is set correctly then it renders the correct information. The problem is this ends up being a manual operation yet it still reads as a smart tag. Why do these not populate automatically?
Here's my process:
Create dwt for sheet file and include xref of title block.
Create a block with attributes that link to AEC Project, CurrentSheetTitle, etc. and insert into dwt.
In project navigator I create new sheet and select my template.
Information does not populate.
But when I view the block and close (no edits) it then links.

May 7, 2013I have some code to replace the current title block with a title block from a template file. I just don't like how it adds a new title block definition named "copy of titleblock". I'd like to delete or replace the current title block definition so only the newly added one is listed.

I'm just being picky at this point, but I don't want a buildup of title block definitions. We reuse drawings all the time which is why a simple method of updating a title block would be nice. I can just imagine in some years time after a title block update or two there are 20 "copy of copy of copy of .................. titleblock" listed in a drawing file.

I create a new layout by selecting page set up manager in the file menu, create a new layout, but the tab does not show up at the bottom.

Jul 21, 2012I have a student that downloaded and installed the 2013 student version of AutoCAD. She then opened a drawing we were working on in class (2012 standard version) and continued to work at home. She is able to save that drawing by clicking the save button on the Quick Access toolbar, however she is unable to "Saveas" that drawing to a different name or different release. The dialog box resets the file name to a file path on her C drive as soon as you move the mouse.
The same thing happens when she goes to make a block - she can type a block name in the window, but as soon as the mouse moves, the name changes to a block name already in the list.

Jun 5, 2012I'm having some difficulty in deciding how to go about creating a title block for my drawings. I have attempted to create the title block with Document fields from the drawing properties custom properties tab, and creating the same fields with information from the Sheet / Sheet Set fields. Both title blocks used attributes inside the block to house the fields, and both were .dwt files.
Is there a way to take the properties from the .dwt drawing into a newly created drawing, or is there a way to link custom sheet set properties with a newly created sheet set? The main goal is to not have the user manually input multiple custom fields either in the drawing properties or the sheet set manager of the new drawing.

Oct 25, 2012I made a 24 x 36 title block with attributes and saved it as a wblock.
1) When I inserted the title block into a 24 x 36 paper space, The titleblock does not fit. and the texts are messed up as well. The text are in in their respective places. What I did to create the title block is to basically created a title block border and then created the text. So, I made a block out of the borders and then a block out of the text then I made a block out of the whole thing (text and border). After i saved it as a wblock. When saving as wblock i chose entire drawing and once i chose object.
2) When I try to test plotting with this title block i made (even though it does not fit in) it does not show up in print preview.
How do I make some of the text Bold and others not? but keep them all same style?

Mar 12, 2013I use Inventor 2013 regularly and only sometimes require the use of AutoCAD, mainly for 2D electrical layout drawings.
I have saved my drawing .idw template file from Inventor to a .dwg
Inserted it into AutoCAD .dwg
Saved as an AutoCAD .dwt
now the only issue that I have, is the image that I had embedded into the inventor drawing template, shows up as an icon instead of my compnay logo:
Is AutoCAD capable of showing images in a title block and hwo would I go about deleting the current icon image and replace it with the logo?
I tried deleting the current image in block editor but it won't let me select it.

May 30, 2012Whenever I insert a title block I get an "AutoCAD Error Aborting" message - FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0040 Exception at d69ac126h.
The title blocks have been working fine for months in ACAD2012, and I've even tried saving the drawing containing the blocks as an AutoCAD 2013 dwg to no effect.
The title blocks are 'home-made' and contain a mix of fields and attributes, could this be causing the problem?
AutoCAD 2013 :: Plotting Logo Is Xreffed Into Title Block
May 7, 2013The incorrect plotted logo is xref'd into a title block. It appears fine on a plot preview. The same titleblock is Xref'd into all other drawings with no problems. I have tried printing both directly from my desk to the printer, and plotting it to a file. I have tried PDFing it in both Bluebeam and Adobe. Bluebeam PDF has lines vertically, evenly spaced, throughout the entire drawing; Adobe is unexceptably blurring. I have purged and audited all the Xref's in the drawing as well as the drawing itself. I have even created a new drawing and rexref'd everything and brought the work over. Nothing has worked. There is nothing more frustrating then having all the work done but not being able to submit it. I already spent 2 days trying to fix this and the project goes out at the end of the week.

Feb 11, 2013I'm trying to setup a title-block for everyone at my new place of business.
In this new job, 98% of our drawings are done in a single file with multiple layouts. I would like to set my template up so that things like Rev numbers and drawn by, and checked by etc., are updated in all layouts by changing just the first sheet. I also want to include a field for the drawn date so that it takes the current date (they want the drawn date to reflect the print date rather than the actual drawn date...)
I would like to incorporate attributes for things like checked by, engineer check, and such but make them so they don't appear unless you open the attribute editor.
