View 6 RepliesI have a lot of maps that have drawing units in yards. I'd like to place points on these maps given their lat/long data. Without having the mapping toolbox is there any way to either convert the map units or convert the points? I'm not worried about spherical distortion as the maps are close in.

I'm a GIS analyst trying to learn Cad. I'd like to place a single point in autocad model space at a specific Northing/Easting position. After reading several forum threads I don't think CAD allows me to change the coordinate system of model space from map coords to northing easting coords, as we can in GIS.

If not how can we convert the revit shared coordinates to real world projection coordinates?
Properties box is really long (horizontally). (see attachment)
When I select an object, then right mouse and pick "Properties" the box containing the different things to change is so long it runs off my screen and goes into my 2nd monitor.
I have a File in Monatana State Plane. I have a KMZ file from GE with some Power Pole Locations. The data in GE is in Lat Long. What would be the best method of importing this data into Map? I want to be able to also have Power Pole blocks on these positions.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have got a problem with AutoCAD 2010 right now. Im having some procedures that take very long to process in between a Transaction Manager. Start Transaction and Commit/Abort.
When taking too long AutoCAD sometimes just disappears/crashes without giving a call stack/Exception or anything. There are also no memory leaks or exceptions raised, though i send some status messages to the command line of AutoCAD.
Does AutoCAD need anything like a KeepAlive? Do i have to send it some specific messages or anything? Is that a common problem?
I was tried to convert a point from UTM-39N to Lat/Long using geodetic calculator; but when I checked the converted coordinates by another applications (like GeoLab); they were a little different (about two seconds) & I'm sure GeoLab is right.
My settings and other information is attached.
I am working on a drawing for the COE. They require that the horizontal scale is 1"=20 feet for cross sections. Unfortunately the sections that I need to cut are so long that they don't fit on the page. Currently I am creating multiple viewports in paper space and creating split section views in that way but it is starting to get out of hand.
Any better way to handle sections that won't fit on a page? I can't change the scale.
i want to draw a line long 3 meters and i have to type @ before typing 3. If i dont type @ then there is a problem when i want to dimensioned it - there doesn't appear 3 metres but totaly different number. why that happens?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Auto Cad 2011 and I always use the option to 'attach' xrefs. what is the difference between attaching and an overlay? Does one use less memory than the other? When would be the best time to use an overlay?
Also when my new version was installed when I bring in an xref the layers show light (I really like this) another girl in our office has the same version but her layers are still saturated. how does she change it to show ghosted layers in the xref?
is there a way to not have the long list of xref layers when I bring them into a drawing?
I am trying to produce some longsections from a DWG Format Drawing i downloaded from a mapping website (promap) at the moment im going through the process of using a 3d polyline, snapping it to every contour i need, then viewing it from the side and drawing a longsection table around it (Pretty amatuer im sure) How is it possible to produce a longsection automatically using Civil 3D/AutoCAD (The contour map is made up of 3D Poly lines).

When i zoom in and the object is not completely visible in the screen and i click inside the object , AutoCAD says , valid hatch boundary not found. View 6 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to AutoCAD Architecture 2013 I've noticed that the sequence in which I type my commands no long works. I used to be able to highlight various items and then type in the command I want to apply to these items - i.e. Mirror, Erase, Scale, etc. But now with 2013 I will select the items, then type in the command, and the it asks me to again select the items I wish to apply the command to. What settings I need to change in order to fix this?

I have gone through the proper procedure through the Plotter Manager all the way to Select Custom Paper Sizes but the Add button is grayed out and I can't add a new user size. I was able to do this with AutoCAD 2004 on a Windows XP system but can't on this setup.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have found after my last save, the Datum Planes of the assembly have just lengthened in two directions monstrously for no reason. I checked to see if it was an unassebled straggler but cant find anything. Is there a way of knowing why it does this.
Check attached image, the dot is a machine 20 metres high and the datum plane seems to reach the nearest neighbourhood for some reason.
In Civil 3D 2013 > Settings tab > General > Label Sytles > Note . . .create a new label style that will label the latitude and longitute of a location in your drawing. Assign your drawing a coordinate system. Now label a point in your drawing with the newly created Lat-Long label. Tell me if it works. I've not had any luck with it. I can do it fine in Civil 3D 2012, but no matter what I do (old drawing, new drawing, any template) it just doesn't seem to work in Civil 3D 2013.

A few of my design drawings are taking a long time to open from cold. They are not particularly complex drawings and all the files / assembly etc. that are referenced on them are correctly stored and are not corrupt or 'sick'. Why are these drawings taking so long to open? waiting for them is slowing me down considerably.

It's taking a long time to move cogo points. About 2 minutes for a single point move. Other commands affecting points are taking longer too. Would it just be a function of file size.

I have a copy of an old plan showing curved boundaries which I wish to recreate in C3D. There's lots of connecting arcs, all of which are annotated like:
RAD 15
CHORD 21.213
121°22'15"
ARC 23.56
T.L. 15
I can see that the first line is the radius, the 2nd and 3rd lines are the length and orientation of the arc chord, the 4th line is the arc length. I've been able to get a correct result by firstly drawing the chords, then adding arcs with the appropriate radii between the two ends of each chord. However, I'm sure there's a quicker and easier way. Sometimes the arcs are separated by short sections of straight line which have length and bearing details as well.
Attached is a screen shot of a short length.
I am working with Inventor 2013 Professional. For some reason, after a crash last night, Inventor takes anywhere from five to twenty seconds to perform simple tasks. Things like Constraints, geometry projection, and saving are taking way too long. This is all of a sudden.

My section lines "legs" are coming in very long in idw.
I unchecked "show entire line" and it still leaves a massive line away from the arrow.
It seems to happen randomly and I can't tell what triggers it. Everytime I regen or autosave/save the status shows "displaying contours" and a load bar that takes way too long and slows me down...
