Revit :: Coordinates To Real World Projection Coordinates?
Aug 15, 2012
The coordinates that we can apply in Revit (project/shared) aren't exactly the same to have real world projection coordinates (WGS84)??
If not how can we convert the revit shared coordinates to real world projection coordinates?

I'm trying to add an aimConstraint between objects that are placed under different transforms, but the problem is, it seems aimConstraints calculate the direction using the target and pointing objects local coordinates, is there someway to make it calculate them using world coordinates instead?

I want to move our firm to using a UCS that aligns with the viewport.
However my hesitation has always been that World does not seem to restore to the original coordinates.
We do survey drafting and the map grid coordinates are critical and we drop in new survey data over the existing on a regular basis.
I tested it again last week but still I cannot insert new data into the same position even after restoring to World UCS. It is consistently about 1.5 units offset from the correct position.
Am I doing something wrong? Should USC World set it back the identical original coordinates such that I could confidently paste with a 0,0 base point and have geometry by in the correct position.

Is there a way to expose the world coordinates of a linked object like a null?
When you link an object to another it uses its parent space coordinates or coordinates that are relative to the parent. I really need to know the actual world space coordinates.

I'm a GIS analyst trying to learn Cad. I'd like to place a single point in autocad model space at a specific Northing/Easting position. After reading several forum threads I don't think CAD allows me to change the coordinate system of model space from map coords to northing easting coords, as we can in GIS.

Is there a way of importing cad by shared coordinates, or are autodesk working on this for the next service pack, which would be very useful.
It's great that the 'link cad' does it but why not import cad? This would be very useful as we model certain things (pipework statues,) from point cloud and model on other software, then we bring into revit, so we use the same coordinates as the point cloud (O.S coordinates.)
Also I'm glad that Autodesk have added the shared coordinates to the point cloud insert for Revit 2013.

I have spent the last couple of hours researching posts back to 2008 regarding inserting inserting a point cloud into Revit at the correct coordinates. I have two files (DXF and PCG) that are in the same coordinate system. They overlay exactly in AutoCAD. Why I see posts back to 2008 with no resolutions on this same topic? Also explain to me why a file indexed in AutoCAD 2013 is not compatable with Revit 2013.

I mainly use MyPaint, Gimp and Inkscape, but I also made a quick tour ofother painting softwares. If all of them take into account the color (asis, without any characteristic like viscosity, nature of a paint - oily oraqueous) and the toools to apply the color (with a stiking inventivenessregarding the brushes !), I have not found any that directly simulate thebehavior of the media on which the color is applied. However, to take justthe example of the watercolor, the paper has a fundamental importance onthe effects that can be applied and on the final rendering.
Of course, with a good expertise - and dexterity - in a particularsoftware, one can, by manipulating the image, achieve a very close if notidentical result. But this is akin to a Grand Chef cooking, with secretrecipes, tricks and tips, subtle dosages...
why the medias are not implemented in the paintingsoftwares ? There is some few basic parameters as the substrate porosity, surface roughness, anisotropy of the porosity and/or roughness, inclinationof the surface of work, and if this is coupled to some parameters of theink, like viscosity, attractive or repulsive power of the ink, you can workreally more intuitively.

I recently purchased CS6 and am having difficulty importing (or finding) the GPS data for my images. I'm using Nikon D5100 and D5200 cameras to take pictures, with attached GP-1 GSP system. I'm shooting in RAW and converting the images as I import them into my computer (Mac, OS X 10.8.5). The data imported automatically when I was using PS10, but doesn't seem to be captured with CS6, even though there are GSP coordinate fields in the metadata template.
Do I need to set something up in my preferences or templates to capture the data?

how to figure out coordinates in PS? for example: top-left = pixel 1,1 and then 40 pixels down and 30 pixles across would be... 30,40. i could figure that out with a calculator, but what if i was looking for an exact point in the middle of the canvas?

I have to create many frames of animation which I place on separate layers in Photoshop. I then have to obtain the coordinates of each of these frames of animation.
the way I get the coordinates is a complete pain and just seems wrong.
Here's what I do:
1) I zoom in to about 600%
2) I then move my cursor to the top left most pixel of the graphic on the the layer
3) I then look at the 'info' panel to see what the coordinate the cursor is at.
now imagine doing this around 100-500 times a day. ouch!
Is there any easier way of getting coordinate information of a graphic on a layer in Photoshop without doing the above?
An example psd file would be:
1.Create a canvas 800x600 pixels
2.Create a new Layer
3.Draw a square 100x100 pixels on that layer and place it anywhere on the screen.
How would you find what coordinate that square is at?

In Photoshop CS6 Extended (Win7 64-bit) how can I use the Ruler Tool to not only record the angle and length of a given measurement, but also the beginning and ending coordinates?
And on a related note, is it possible to edit the fields beneath the Label column in the Record Measurement log; e.g., rename Ruler 1 to AB, Ruler 2 to CD, etc.

I have Autocad Map3D 2010. I have a set of points in a CSV file containing points, latitude and longitude, in columns, that I want to import to a map and place the points (houses) in the appropriate locations with the house number. I click IMPORT, MAP IMPORT, select my file as PNE and the data in the preview window appears correctly. I'm using OH83-SF coordinate code which the map is. When I click OK it appears to have completed the command but nothing appears on the map and I get no error notifications. As a test I put an incorrect value in one of the lists and it did flag the error. I've tried space delimiters, commas, txt and Excell tables and always the same - nothing. I've tried the command line MULTIPLE POINTS and entered the geo coordinates and again - nothing appears on the map.

I have GeoPDF that I can't attach properly to drawing in Civil 3D.
So with Global Mapper I exported it to geo-referenced ECW.
I checked ECW in Global Mapper and ArcMap, everything just fine.
However when I did mapiinsert in Civil 3D, image appeared with shifted coordinates.
The original coordinate system of PDF and ECW is BC/Albers and coordinate grid is Lat/ Longs.

Work has finally given me a machine that can run AutoCAD properly and I now also have the office license of full AutoCAD 2011 (vanilla AutoCAD not architecture etc.)
I am about to start placing a lot of setting our coordinates onto some drawings and was wondering what the easiest/fastest way to produce setting out coordinates utilising all the fancy stuff AutoCAD has.
On LT I used to place points where I wanted the coordinates from, copy a peice of MText around say E:XXXXX N:XXXXXX with a leader from the point to the text. I would then go around listing each individual point and copy and paste from the AutoCAD text window to the MTEXT correcting the decimal point manually.
My director on this job hates tables of coordinates so I can't use them. Also the datum of the drawings is not world UCS, would this be a problem? I have looked at the LISP tutorial but have never used any LISP beyond this.

I am modelling (low poly) a human head whose z-axis is not vertical. Now the problem is when I orbit it (using alt + middle mouse button), the head doesn't stay upright, and this is really not handy !!
The problem would be solved if I could, either orbit around local coordinates (meaning left-right mouse movements would spin around local z-axis, not world z-axis), or maybe change orbit style (for example blender has another orbiting style where left-right mouse movements spins according to view)
There would be another solution, which would be applying a rotation modifier to the whole scene, and removing when I'm done with the head, but I don't know if this is possible...?

I am having a very annoying problem with 3dsmax 2014 that i can't figure out. I can't get coordinates to show up at the bottom when trying to create objects, or just move the cursor in the viewport. They will show up if I use move/scale/rotate gizmo though. But they will be blank if I m just moving a cursor around or trying to create a new object (which is annoying since I can't tell for sure what the coordinates will be). On one of the 3dsmax docs I saw that they will be blank if I have multiple objects selected or if I m hovering over an inactive viewport. However, neither is true in my case. I even tried in maximized viewport view and still nothing. And no objects are selected at all.
how to get the coordinates to display when hovering and creating ?
