AutoCad :: Reference Points / Grips To Each Other?
Dec 20, 2013Is there any way to reference a point on a dynamic block to another point to the other dynamic block?

I´ve used AutoCAD for a while but this just appeared. The reference points are not displayed on a current line (or any other figure) when I want to join another figure with it, what I mean is that the little green x or square figures won´t appear when I want to join two objects at a point. If I create a circle, for example, and I want to create another circle around it, both with the same origin, AutoCAD won´t display that origin automatically.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI will receive printed out drawings that are entirely drawn with the use of ordinates, putting the 0,0 point in the corner of the part, and dim everything from that corner. Like this example:
The problem I'm having is when I recreate the parts digitally and have multiple parts to dimension, I can do one that looks as clean as the ordinate version, but the rest are dimensioned using the baseline tool, and look like this:
Though it works, it takes a while to make it nice and legible for my print out version. And most the time the parts are more organic and don't have any corners, but this is the best example for my question.
I know I can't have multiple 0,0 points in model space, but I was hoping there would be a better way to achieve the clean look of the ordinate points. Or perhaps create a reference point that can be duplicated, moved, and the ordinates will recognize.
Note: As much as I'd like to use paper space to dimension my parts, I can't.
I got a survey that has hundreds of cogo points. I need to bring this into a mapping dwg but not as cogo points. What's already in the map file is block reference (trees, power poles, signs, etc.). When I explode the cogo points (select all) they turn into 1/100th of the size (although the Properties scale hasn't changed). If I explode one by one, they are fine. how I can get these cogo points into the map dwg as block reference at the correctoriginal size?

When I add a wall or door the reference dimensions default to the center of the wall or door, etc. Is there any way to have these reference dimensions default to the structural face of a wall instead of continually dragging with everything I draw?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I make my rooms for a building, I want them to be a specific distance from the previous wall, say 10'. But when Revit measures the walls, it measures from the center line of the wall and not the edges. How do I correct this so it is measuring from the nearest edge so I'm not constantly having to think about how thick the wall was on each side and manually add 5 inchs or whatever it is in order to get a solid 10' room.
Also, when placing rooms, I have found that the program keeps making the reference distances from points halfway across the house. For example, if I want to make a room 10'x 10', and go to place the top wall of the room. If there is another wall across the hall or something that may intersect if you extend an imaginary line, the reference dimensions won't be 10' from the bottom wall, but it would be something like 4' 5 7/16" from that other room that has nothing to do with the wall I'm trying to place. Does that make sense? How do I turn off or control the meaningless reference points?
I have an old map showing a plan of all the fields that used to exist in this area. It is just black lines and words. I need to see through this plan and place it exactly at the right size and orientation using two buildings (which are shown on both maps) as reference points. To do this I will need to resize and rotate the field plan over the modern map, anchoring the first farm point then pull second farm point to overlay on the modern map. I will then be able to see how all the old fields sit in their modern environment and which old boundaries still exist.
Even making the white transparent leaving just the black lines of the plan would be a great start. The field plan is saved as JPEG and the modern one is TIFF. Does this matter?
I have structures and alignments data referenced. If I assign the structures ref alignments in the dwg with the data refs for labeling, the next time I open the dwg the ref alignments are set back to none, causing the labels to be ?
It seems like this worked in the past?
I'm working on a large infrastructure project with numerous of drawings. On quite a few layout drawings I need to have the same base set of references, however I need to change the layer settings (colors, lineweight etc.). This cannot be done in the base reference itself as it is used by others. As the layouts I work with includes other references as well, it is time consuming to filter and change layer settings on each base reference.
My concept is to have a master reference file to manage all layer settings and add/remove base references. When the master reference is referenced into the layout, all layer settings on the base references should stay as set in the master reference. In this way I can easily control all base references with one file and make sure all changes will be the same for all the layouts.
New illustration of concept:
I am getting this error in my production drawings.
My setup is as follows:
- EG.dwg has my existing surface in it. I create a data reference to use it in other drawings.
- Level One.dwg has the EG surface data referenced in, and I use this to create alignments, profiles, and finish surface. All of these are turned in to data references.
- Storm Sanitary.dwg has my pipe designs. I data reference in the two surfaces, profiles, and alignments, and create pipe networks. I create references for these networks.
- Plan Profile.dwg is the production sheet I'm getting this error from. Every one of my civil objects is data referenced in to this drawing. Everything is inserted correctly, the pipes show correct FG surface elevations for their rims, etc.
BUT when I open this drawing, I get this error. I assume it's because my FG surface is not directly in the storm sanitary.dwg.
How do I get rid of this error, without combining drawings, or promoting the surface to one or more drawings? Isn't this exactly what data references is made for?
I had to create a boundary map and place points to all corners. How to export these newly created points back into my data collector (Ranger) and also I'm trying to figure out how to print out a points list.
I stumbled on to this thread but I guessing that it's a different CAD year because my modify tab doesn't look like this. URL.....
I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?
there is a way to convert land desktop aecc points to cogo points and use the full description?
I do not have access to the ldt files nor to the Descriprion keys file. It would be nice if there was an option to preserve full descriptions when converting (that would be just too simple).
The land measure company just sended me a file of a field they marked on the site. As you can see in the picture below the yellow polyline contains many grips. Because of all the grips my whole drawing is very slow and when i want to hatch the polyline and trim in it it takes minutes to load. My question is how can i change the polyline so i can easily hatch and trim it without waiting that long. Im using autocad 2014 and still learning it.

I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCAD Architecture 2012 and on multiple projects I have been working on I have been having objects randomly move when I rotate my view. The strange thing is that the grips still show up where the object is supposed to be. Below is a screen shot to explain what I am talking about.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI moved from acad 2000 to 2009. My crosshair hesitates over every dimension line. Also almost impossible to use grips on the dimension lines. Anyway to turn this off?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSimple problem: When I select a line, normally three grips appear; the ends and the middle. Normally, when I want to stretch (resize) a line I click one end and simply drag it to the desired location. Often it *snaps* to another nearby grip point, the middle selected grip, a line that it crosses, etc. If I zoom in I normally can put the grip any where I want to. It has worked fine up until this morning. Last night when I closed the program it worked perfectly...first thing this morning it doesn't work at all. Restarting the program and the computer had no effect.
The grip will only snap to the other origin (making it zero length) and other random points nearby. I cannot make it a random length...it must snap to those other points, and it *will not* snap to the middle point of the line, which I do all of the time.
Did I accidentally hit a CTRL+ or ALT+ key-stroke which has changed the abilities to snap?
where the tool tips for grips on polylines have gone in 2012? The stretch, add, delete and the convert to arc. I have a feeling that a setting has changed and I can't find it.

Is this a bug? Is there a fix? Is this user error?
We are running autocad MEP 2014. A co-workers machine that I'm trying to fix has these little boxes showing up next to the grips whenever he draws rectangles. They say "parallel" and "perpendicular"....How do we toggle these things off so they don't show up anymore?

ex: an extruded rectangle intersects another one just at the end of the extrusion. I would like to extend it further but i'm not able to select the ">" grip. How can I do this without isolating objects, I need them to reference the length of the extension, and so on.
I have created an annotated block of a cut line. In the block editor the grips are located on the ends of the cutline where I need them to be. When I test the block in the block editor the grips are in the right place and the block works fine. However, when I insert the block into my drawing the grips to control the stretch action are located way out in right field instead of at the ends of the cutline where I placed them in the block editor. Parameters having errors. I have corrected the errors but my block is still acting the same way.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a project that was started by leaving all the survey data inside the "All Points" group. So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.
What should I do?
what absolute points and relative points are in AutoCAD. What is the difference?
View 8 Replies View Relatedknow of a variable which controls how stretching with grips works. I've got a single machine with Autodesk Architecture 2012 that when I select a grip and move it, then type a dimension in the command line, that the line becomes the dimension I typed, not the amount I moved it. For example, If i have 10" line, select and end grip, stretch it +3 inches or -3 inches, the line becomes an absolute of 3 inches. On all other machines, the line would either become 13" or 7".

The dynamic input is off.
I would like to add or customize my multifunction grips. For example, at a pline vertex the m-f grip allows me to stretch, add, or remove it. One thing I'ld like to add is to break the pline at that vertex. It would be faster to use m-f grips than the pull-down menu item I have.
