AutoCad :: Mailing DWG File / Annotative Dimensioning

Aug 14, 2013

How can I make a drawing in dwg. Format, smaller, for emailing it?

The other thing: I'm still struggling with annotative dimensioning.

Say for example, I draw a 220mm brick wall and then scale it to twice the size, in other words it will appear in paperspace at scale 1:50. Now, if I want to dimension it in modelspace and I choose a annotative scale dimension at the right scale, the dimension itself is correct, in other words: it appears also twice in size. But the value is now 440mm and not 220mm.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Annotative Attributes In NON-Annotative Block

Feb 7, 2013

I have a co-worker who needs to create a block where the attributes scale with the anno scale, but the block container does not. He's creating a tree block and wants the canopy and trunk attributes to scale without scaling the tree symbol.

Making an attribute annotative and applying the scales to the attributes doesn't seem to work if the block itself isn't annotative.

Are we missing something, or is this just not possible?

AutoCAD LT :: Annotative Text - Changing When File Is Closed And Then Opened

Jul 15, 2013

I have been a having a repeating problem with text in AutoCAD. For some reason when re-opening my file some annotative text is know magically different. Prior to closing the file my annovative text is only set to one scale and the text width is a specific size. Then when I re-open the file, the text now has 4 different scales and the width has shrunk to completely different, casing all my text to jumble and be illegible. To be more specific when I say width of text if I look in the properties window the setting "Model defined width" is different (always much smaller). This a particularly frustrating as I cannot override this setting when selecting in properties and have to stretch each text box back to size manually. I am currently using AutoCAD LT 2013.

AutoCad :: Nest Annotative / Dynamic Block Inside Non-annotative Block?

Sep 23, 2011

I have attached the block for reference. Now that I have found the error of my way with the annotative cutline. I have a slab-on-grade block that needs to have annotative hatches; I also need the cutline to be annotative and dynamic so that as the drawing scale changes the scale of the cutline will be match and I can adjust the length of the extension lines. I have made the cutline a nested annotative and dynamic block within the slab-on-grade block. When I insert the block into my drawing the cutline is annotative and the dynamic grips show up but they do not work.

AutoCad 2D :: Replacing Non-Annotative Blocks With Annotative Blocks

Oct 29, 2012

My company is in the process of updating the entire block library to be annotative or dynamic (depending on the usage) and it's been wonderful for new projects.

The problem comes in when we have to update an existing dwg. When we try to "blockreplace" the new annotative tags for the old non-annotative tags. These tags have attributes, but we have literally not changed anything about the blocks except the "annotativedwg" property within the root block file. When we run block replace, the old blocks disappear completely! they're not at a teeny scale or a gigantic scale, they're not on an "off" or "frozen" layer, they just fully go away even if you say "don't purge the old block that is being replaced".

I usually don't have a problem "doing my job" and just going through and replacing them individually on the smaller sized projects, but most of our projects have upwards of 700 - 1000 tags per dwg. Slightly tedious as you can imagine, especially since I am addicted to finding newer faster better ways to draw.

On my detail sheets there are a lot more of these than actual dimensions.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Dimensioning 3D Models

May 14, 2013

I have a fairly complex solid model built in Autocad 2013. I would like to dimension it now. I have various individual parts plus sub assemblies and weldments etc. What are best practices for doing this in an organized way? Should I copy various parts over to other drawings and dimension them separately? It seems odd to pile everything onto the one model. I know that Autocad is not Inventor (which I am somewhat familiar with), but does it have some similar tools for doing individual part drawings to keep things manageable?

AutoCad :: Dimensioning Quirk In 2004?

May 8, 2013

While working on a drawing today I realized that when I modified dimension styles ... arrow size, text size, spacing, etc. , upon closing the modify style window the changes I'd made automatically took effect on the screen. In other words I did not have to use the dimension update command to make the changes appear in dimensions already in the drawing. All the dimensions changed to show the changes automatically. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this before.

I went to another drawing and the updates did not automatically occur. I inserted part of the old drawing into the current drawing and made dimension style changes again. The changes updated automatically in the new content but not on the content inserted from the old drawing.

AutoCad 2D :: Dynamic Block For Dimensioning?

Feb 9, 2012

I want to create a block which will be able to automatically display dimensions as pulled from gridlines in two directions. The dimensions would be displayed over lines perpendicular to each other which would have arrows indicating the direction the dimension was pulled from. I am hoping to create a faster way to generate plans for field installation use. Currently we paste a block and manually type in the dimensions and rotate the arrows.

I have not figured out how to attach a graphic of the block and could use a tip for that also.

AutoCad 2D :: Automate Dimensioning Process?

Mar 4, 2013

I work in plumbing design and am constantly burdened by the tedious task of setting out hundreds upon thousands of penetrations every month for the guys on site to locate their plumbing points through the slab.

They use a GPS system to expedite the plotting, but first I provide a CAD file with just 3 layers; GRids ( a line ), Wastepoint ( a donut poly line ) and Fixture Name ( multi text) which the survey program can interpret and set out from ( actually, the surveyor only needs one point, which he grabs from the site grids that I provide ).

So that's all good, but on top of this I must dimension off the grids every point so that measurements can be done on site as back-up/cross checking.

Of course I can't have dims overlapping each other.

Is there any way to automate this part of the process? Taking a dim from the nearest grid (x and y axis) to the centre of the object I use for the penetration.

AutoCad :: Dimensioning In Paper Space

Jan 20, 2012

I am attempting -- without much success -- to put my dimensions in paperspace. The problem is that sometimes (almost always) the dimension value is in paperspace. That is, when I do a Linear Dimension of two points of an object in paperspace the resulting value will be a few inches instead of many feet.

My model is drawn at full size; my viewport is set to 1/4" = 1'-0"; I am using ACA 2012.

I am not sure if it instructive, but I have found:

- The only time it comes out correct is if my first point is at 0,0. But if the second point is 0,0 it will be wrong (paperspace value). Bizarre
- most of the "wrong" dimensions have the "Associative" property is set to "No". The box is grayed out so I am not sure how to change it.
- If I MEASUREGEOM, the value is the correct model space length but if I do a linear dimension using the same two points the value is in paperspace.

AutoCad :: Dimensioning 3D Objects In Viewport

Jan 2, 2014

The company I now work for does everything in 3D with vanilla AutoCAN'T, 2012-2014. There are only a few 2D objects in any file. The problem I'm running into is when dimensioning the 3D geometry in paperspace, the dimensions will not always stay anchored to the points that I've snapped to. If I have to go into the block editor the dimensions will fly all over the place when I exit it.

VIEWBASE really useful to alleviate this problem, but not everyone is on the same version and we're saving back to a 2010 format which creates proxy objects when opened on another machine. I'm not sure if I have the freedom to start using it.
