AutoCad :: Linking Attributes From Several Drawings To Excel
Aug 25, 2011
I'm trying to figure out a way to do the following:
I have several drawing files in DWG. Each DWG has a block placed in a drawing sheet. The block contains attributes which would like to link to an Excel file.
Then if I update the attribute in the drawings this would change the linked attribute in the Excel file, and vice versa.
Note that there are several drawings which I would like to handle in a single Excel file.

I need to know if there is a way to link an attributed F-N bubble with qty's to the BOM. This is for electrical wiring diagrams for aircraft. So I have serveral part numbers to a BOM, but no real accurate way of finding total quantities other than manually going though the drawing.

Well I had a day and a half trying to figure out how to bring Excel data into LT. Again. Here is what I have found out:
Running Excel 2010 I have a xls files (of type '97-2003 xls - file includes VBA). The file spits out a ton of data that I want to put in a schedule in AutoCAD. The schedule format needs to match our standard format - RomanS in white and blue.
If I copy and paste as a link the font remains stuck as Arial (regardless of source font) and can't be relaxed unless you go one cell at a time in the text editor. Also the resultant table size is tiny -
If I save the file to .XLSM (macro enabled '10 excel file) the results are the same. If I save the file to .XLSX ('10 excel file and ditch the VBA project) the results are sublime - the font is ok and I can go back and forth from AutoCAD to my now broken spreadsheet because VBA IS MISSING! The resultant table size is tiny but I can deal. I don't see how AutoCAD can work with xlsx but not xlsm.
I also found that if I save the sheet (values only) as a .csv file I can use that to create a table from file without font overrides screwing everything up.
I'm running AutoCAD LT 32bit on a Win7 32bit OS. My Office version is 2010. I would like to link data to a '97-'03 version of an xls or an xlsm without having the font overridden to Arial.

I am linking a model to an excel spreadsheet. Normally you would specify what cell on the first sheet (Sheet1) to start in. I have been told that you can link to other sheets in the workbook as well. Is this possible? I have tried, but have not been successful. If it is possible, how is it done?

Create a large number of polygons (plines, parcels, whatever) that represent spaces on a building plan
Assign a space number to the polygon
Link the space number to an Excel spreadsheet (or Access DB) so that the characteristics of the polygon (line and fill color, for example) are chosen based on the "owner" of the space (e.g.; Engineering, Common Areas, etc.).
Display a label stating the space number and the space name. Is this best done with "Parcels" in Civ3D, or with "Polygons" in Map, or some other way.

As everybody know copy/paste excel file into an inventor drawing is sometimes difficult. As you can see in the printscreen a special character is not converted. I supposed it's because this special character is not in the AIGDT or is in the extended character set wich is not considered in Inventor?

I would like to link an Excel table to a SHP file via a column in commun. My SHP file and Excel Spreadsheet share one same column filled with numbers. So it's neither simply import Excel table, nor import with points.

I have created fields in the drawing properties custom fields dialogue box, then inserted those fields into my title block attributes.
Two things I hope to get out of this:
1. link these fields into the drawing property summary, so that I can display the drawing title and other pieces of info in the help strings that appear in windows explorer by simply hovering the cursor over the file.
2. I wish to be able to fill out the information in the title block by data linking it to our drawing lists in access.

What I would like to do is find a way to use a dynamic block, which has already been created, and once I put in the proper length, speed, type of conveyor, etc., it will automatically update an excel spreadsheet, for example a power estimate, or cost estimate sheet. Is this possible, if so, what is the quickest, and easiest way to do this?
Also, what formula would I use in excel to link back to the DWG?

Ok what I'm tring to do is have a spreadsheet that has a list of prices in it that we could modify if needed for all these parts i'm making. Best way is to have the spreadsheet obviously external of the file.Though now I do not know how to do this in iLogic. And example of what I'm trying to do is, with 3 parameters.
A, B, and P
Value "A" and Value "B", these are just read items which when combined will give Value "P" to be imported into the Part file. So need A & B to be read and give the row number for P to be imported.

I've previously used Autocad 2008 Electrical. I've just started a new job and I have been asked to update some electrical drawings from a recent project. My current employer use Autocad 2010 as opposed to Autocad Electrical which I have previously used.
The problem I have is that I have a drawing with a table linked to an Excel spreadsheet that displays an I/O table.
Since the drawings have changed the amount I/O has increased.
I have a new excel sheet with the new I/O list which is larger than the old I/O list.
When I "point" the Table to look at the new spreadsheet in the "Modify Excel Link" Dialogue and alter the "Link to Range" Tab to my new desired excel sheet and apply the changes the table. The new excel sheet populates the table correctly until the end of the old table used to stop then the format goes all to hell and the new part of the table is way out of scale and at 90 degrees out to the original table.
I think I am possibly missing a step somehwere when updating the Data Table Links!?!?....Do I need to alter the table properties somewhere too?.

Regarding the conversion of an excel sheet into Illustrator variables... I am able to import an excel sheet into Illustrator datasets. I am curious if it is possible to link the excel file to the Illustrator data sets, so that when I alter something within the excel sheet, the data sets automatically change. Is this possible? Or must I always freshly convert/import the excel file?

I'm having some trouble setting my workflow and I need linking data to corel draw from excel. Basically, what I want to do is to have excel data automatically copy from Excel to Draw and "Paste Special / Paste Link Objects/MS Excel Worksheet is almost what I need.
It would be perfect if only it would copy CONTENT of the Excel file or cells, not their formating (font, size, border etc.) which I want to do in Corel, since separation of the content (excel) and form (draw) would be just natural and functional - don't want my number crunchers to affect design of the Draw document, just as I don't want to have my designer to do the math
So - is there way to link objects (cells from Excel) but to transfer content (text) only or should I revert to VBA?

I work for a company who's trying to automate the production of their mechanical and electrical cad drawings. We eventually want to integrate this into our website, so that a customer can select a few options, and a detailed drawing is generated based on what they pick.
To begin with, I'm trying to integrate AutoCAD with MS Excel. I've managed to automate in excel the options a customer can choose from. Now, the tricky part is, how can I transmit information to AutoCAD to perhaps pick blocks and strategically place them in specific locations of the drawing.
For example, if I have the option of Cats, Dogs, Elephants and Monkeys, and I have the option of quantities... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and I pick 3 Monkeys and 2 Cats, I want CAD to be able to place 3 monkeys and 2 cats side by side in a row.

I have some soil boring data captured, in the field, to an Excel spreadsheet; basically, a bore site ID and coordinates.
I'd like to be able to have the coordinate attributes of blocks inserted into my bore site plans populate automatically, perhaps based off of the value of a bore site ID attribute which is manually entered for each bore site.
Alternatively, if there were a way to insert the bore site blocks based off the actual Excel records, populating all attributes and locating the block by the actual X,Y,Z coordinate, that might be even better.

I have a basic floor plan in AutoCAD 2012 that has blocks in specific locations which contain personel data....name, phone, computer tag, desk key numbers, etc. I extracted the data to an Excel spreadsheet and I thought set up a "data link". But I don't know how to make the data update.
My problem...moves of staff, phone, computers are often made, but no one lets me know about it until they want a new floor plan printed and the computer and key tags get so messed up from the moves that it can take me hours to fix.
My goal is to be able to have our secretarial staff update the spreadsheet and in turn update the blocks in my AutoCAD drawing when it is opened and/or "updated".

I am running AutoCAD 2009 and the drawings are "tables" per say.....with a generic block template from an engineering company, along with text and the company logo.

This probably isn't the correct discussion group but not sure where else to post this.
My sales department wants to be able to create drawings based on entries in selected in their Excel qouting tool. Basically, they want to configure a product in the field, and be able to show the customer the drawing with TrueView. (They don't have AutoCAD installed).
I would think the best I can do, is manipulate a .dxf file based on their selections but that may get very complicated.

I am using AutoCAD Mechanical 2013. (Full version). If there is SLD with different HP rating, tag names and different cable ferrule numbers, and if there is any small change in HP rating of motor or small change in tag name, then it is time consuming work for me to go to AutoCAD and change the text by referring Excel sheet.
Is there any way to link excel sheet to AutoCAD drawings? So i can take updated excel sheet and link it with AutoCAD and if there is any change in excel sheet then it will be updated in CAD file as well.If there is any setting or grid referencing to be made. I am ready to do the required changes to meet my requirement.
