I am having trouble with drawing lines in decimal. My length is Decimal, insertion scale is feet. So say I wanted to enter 21 inches in feet. I just click to draw my line, then use 21/12 as my input for length. That works fine. But when I have a line that I want drawn at 21.5" (I enter 21.5/12), it won't work, saying point or option keyword required.
View 4 RepliesFor an autocad assignment, we have been given a drawing in engineering notation (feet and inches) and have to draw it with SI units dimensions. Doing the drawing was fine, BUT, I drew it in inches and thought that I could change it to millimetres.
I have used the units command initially to set up engineering. Then after drawing returned to units to change to decimal. Dimensions turned out in inches regardless. I also tried the scale command to alter the scale, then dimension , still no luck. I went into the annotation menu got to modify primary units and alternate units and still no luck. Not even my tutorial teacher knows how to do this.
I am using an older version of AutoCAD 2010. I cannot find where the "double line" feature is under the drop down menu under "draw".

I can draw circles and rectangles fine (smooth, no lag) but straight lines are a nightmare. This also follows true with the "first line" of an elipse which is very jumpy.
Note: Brand new 3 day old HP 6550b ProBook, running windows 7.
I have tried unsuccessfully to draw lines using bearings as a surveyor draws them. I have seen a number of posts here and on the web, but they relate to northern and easting’s, but as you can see on the attached PDF from a surveyor they have used only bearings. I’m not a surveyor, my background is mechanical so this is all new to me. what units and settings I may need to change in order to draw using these bearings. I’m using Autocad 2012, and the attached PDF relates to some blocks of land in Australia (just in case that makes a difference in the settings)

I'm trying to copy these lines from the other drawing into the map-drawing, but when I'm trying drag and drop, the mouse doesn't even go to the other drawing. I also made a block of the lines and tried to insert it, but it doesn't work either.

But when I try to add a parallel extension to an old line, it doesn't work. The old line is located in another layer, but I tried to copy it to the same layer and it still doesn't work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedCant figure this out - I create a sketch in a drawing, but I cant see the lines as I'm drawing them. The lines are on a "solid" layer set to red as defined in my standard. The background of my drawings is black. When the line command is done, the line appears and it's red. Problem is I cant see it as I'm sketching. Is there any way to modify this? Can I have the line appear red (or white) as I'm sketching?

BTW, when I attach a PDF underlay, AUTOCAD allows me to snap to the lines in the PDF and even measure them. Since it recognizes those lines, is there an easy way to copy the lines from the PDF into the drawing?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI draw a rectangle, and I want to draw a line coming out from the rectangle. Normally I would use OSNAP to get midpoint and endpoint, but this time I want to draw it from any part of the edges of the rectangle.
How do I get the cursor to "snap" to the lines of the rectangle? Similarly, I would like this function for the MOVE tool as well, I used this method in Sketchup before and really liked it a lot.
How do I achieve this in AutoCAD? I tried Nearest, Perpendicular, but they don't work as well.

im using c3d 2012. whenever i'm drawing lines between nodes and i have my osnap set to node and it picks nodes but i have to be right on top of the node when i pick it so i'm having to zoom in and out a lot. in ldd i was able to hover anywhere over the point text and it still picked the node.

Everything enters but when I enter the last command of the bearing and hit enter it stays in the red boxed outline and does nothing. Upgraded to 2014 and trying to get things set for drawing property boundaries. Tried setting the units to surveyors mode and such but nothing works.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen plotting any IDW files to our full size plotter, I have ghost lines running through the drawing (lines that are not present in the drawing, on screen or preview) alomost like the plotter is printing extra extension lines on the drawings, overlaying 2 sheets on 1 drawings and even moving some text on the drawings. I have all the SP's and am lost. I can move to another computer and print drawings fine so its not a plotter issue.

I set the view to show hidden lines, then i attach a sketch to the view and project the hidden lines that i want.
But when i put back the view to hidden lines removed, the lines on the sketch disappear as well
The user is unable to add any sort of Lines, Arcs, etc to an existing file. However not all files behave this away. It seems like there must be some sort of a lock or a security item in place to prevent changes being made.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got my new work PC and I'm having issues drawing lines in AutoCAD LT 2011.
Much like other people, circles are fine, as is most everything else. It's just the lines (and who uses lines when drawing things?). So, as you can imagine, my frustration level is to the point where my head is about to explode.
Here are my PC Specs:
Windows 8
Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHz - 8 CPUS
Memory - 16GB Ram
AMD Radeon HD 7770
2GB GDDR5 Memory
And this is coming from an old Dell that ran 2011 like a champ, the computer just got old and died.
I can't see any reason, component wise, why the CPU can't handle it, and, since it's just on lines, it leads me to believe it's a software issue where 2011 LT isn't playing nicely with Windows 8 or some other component.
Could it be that it's just time to get with the times and upgrade or is there some workaround?
I have a question regarding copying geometry in drawing mode.
When I was working in V5 and making drawings I sometimes had to "fake" geometry, the world is not perfect I know, copy geometry in the 2d, like center lines and such. I am trying to do the same in Inventor and use the project geometry button and geometry is created but it does not show up when exiting sketch.
If I am drawing in 3D and I want to draw a line with a specific angle, how do I choose the plane that it is drawn in? Cos whenever I specify an angle the line is drawn in the horizontal plane
View 2 Replies View RelatedProblems I'm having with hidden lines being visible in certain viewports and not others.I've dimensioned my drawings in model space, which I prefer, and put the dimensions on a separate layer. However, including that layer in the viewport causes the hidden lines to be visible when plotted. If I turn that layer off, everything works great.
I have dimensions for the same object in plan view that I'm showing in a different viewport that works just great, but in the front elevation viewport it gets all screwy.
I can dimension in paper space just fine.I prefer to dimension in model space whenever possible.
if I have two lines which run roughly paralel, but sometimes vary in the distance between them, is there a quick method of having CAD draw a line which is central to the two?
Basically, like an offset, but it would need to offset the line at a distance that is central to the two lines, as and where it varies. IE, you couldnt choose 'offset' and then choose 'mid between two points' because the distance between the lines varies at points..
I'm trying to print off an installation drawing which has some conduit running down through a wall. What I want is to show the conduit in the wall as a hidden line but I'm not able to do so. I'm using AutoCAD 2013.
