Revit :: Create Sun Study Animations

Nov 28, 2012

I need to create some sun study animations, showing the movement of shadows in a courtyard over the course of the day. My in-house revit guru says we can't run animations using cloud render and need to come up with a work-around. I've got Studio Max Design, but I find Mental Ray to be nitpicky and less accurate than cloud rendering.

Photoshop Elements :: Create Simple 2D Animations

I've just bought Photoshop Elements 12 with a view to using it to create simple 2D animations.  However, all the tutorials seem to either ignore tihs use or are based on earlier versions and I can't seem to follow them as 12 doesn't work quite the same way/have the same icons/menus. creating/editing animations, or tell me I'm using fundamentally the wrong software for animation and should just give up and buy something else.

Lightroom :: Fails To Create Preview And Smart Preview?

Mar 29, 2014

I am using MacBook (late 2008) OS X 10.9.2 and recently upgraded to Lightroom 5.3 from Lightroom 4. After a while, some photo started to show exclamation mark at the right hand corner of the photo (*.CR2 raw files in NAS) in grid view. When I click on the exclamation mark, it shows a dialog with following message; "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo". So, I moved previews.lrdata, which is about 9GB, to the trash and restarted the Lightroom 5, expecting Lightroom 5 to create a new previews.lrdata. However, it won't create any preview at all.

exclamation mark at the top right hand corner of the photos in grid view.

size of Previews.lrdata file stops at 152KB.

Lightroom :: Windows 8 - Unable To Create Preview Thumbnail When Exporting?

Nov 29, 2012

I thought I had this figured out but it appears to occur somewhat randomly. Since upgrading to Windows 8 when I export files that I have imported from Canon raw .CR2 for some files it gives an error that "the file could not be written" and lists the original source .CR2 file name. It does not do it everytime but once it happens it happens everytime for that file. When exporting 10 JPG files for example only 3 of them may have this issue. The file still exports and creates the JPG file and the only issue with the exported file appears to be that it did not create the preview thumbnail.

I have tried importing the files into new catalogs, writing to different folders etc but it still happens.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Alternatives To Studio For Animations And Renderings

Apr 10, 2013

I would like to animate and render a 30 second video of something similar to the attached assembly. I have been using Inventor Studio to apply animations to the components, render them as full frame AVI (800 MB files), and compress them with Sony Vegas Pro free trial (~120 MB).

The attached assembly is a simplified example and took me around three hours to model, constraints, animate, and render from scratch. Normally, the boxes are constantly starting and stopping and moving at different velocities. Defining distances and times is cumbersome especially since I need to be aware of the boxes' positions relative to each other so they do not appear to move at different speeds or overlap.

I think a solid modeling program might not be the best tool to animate loose components sitting on a conveyor belt. Inventor slows down and occasionally crashes when I get up to 40 or 50 boxes stopping and starting and moving at different velocities. I am inclined to think that 10 or 15 animated conveyor belts moving boxes with a coefficient of friction would be near impossible on my machine (modeling the belts similar to a track on a tank or a chain and sprocket, also constantly starting and stopping and moving at different velocities).

I haven't played with Showcase, 3ds Max Design, or Navisworks Simulate. Would it be worthwhile to try any of these to animate and generate videos?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rendering Animations - 30 Seconds Limit?

Jun 3, 2009

I have prepared an animation which is 50 seconds long. Now, i just want to render that animation, but i couldn't.

The problem is that if i select "Entire Animation" option for the time range, and click the "Render" button, i obtain just an image rendered (1 frame) and if i try to write the time range manually by selecting the "Specified Time Range" option, i've realized that it is not allowed to specify a value greater than 30 secs. When i write "30.1" for instance, the forecolor of the input box turns red, and a message appears if i click the "Render" button, saying "Invalid Expression!"

"Help" says, "You can adjust any value in the input box.", however.

I've solved the problem by making two seperate animations and merging them by using an other video editing software, but i didn't satisfy the topic. Is there a limitation due to "something" or am i doing something wrong?

I have tried every option I could find to get it to stop but it keeps happening. Some of the animations take over an hour and I don't want to sit in front of the computer waiting to click ok to increase the file size.

I've maxed out the size in the settings at 4096K but it still gives me the message at 2048 and 3072.

Lightroom :: Library Preview Displays At Lower Resolution Than Develop Preview

Jun 2, 2013

I recently bought a Nikon D7100. I took some test shots and imported the images to Lightroom 4.4, then generated 1:1 previews for all the images.

Previews zoomed to 1:1 in Library Mode are noticeably soft.  The image below is a screen shot of the Library preview:

Moving to Develop View produces a higher-resolution 1:1 preview.  The image below is a screen shot of the Develop preview:

Look at the bricks and window screens to see the difference.

This difference occurs immediately after import (with a User Preset applied during import).  Once any Develop work is done, the Library preview updates and displays at full resolution.

This problem makes doing initial editing/selection of images time consuming, because I can't determine the sharpness/quality of imported images until I've done some kind of Develop adjustment on each image.

3ds Max :: Visibility In Animations

Jan 15, 2012

I want to animate components hiding and then becoming visible again. Looks simple enough, I have all the keys placed with the correct settings and yet when I run the animation the objects don’t hide/show. If the object is moving however, the visibility control takes effect, but only while the object is moving.

If I hide/show before or after the motion, nothing but the motion animates. Is there a “Frustrate Dave” button that I accidentally hit or a hidden setting that prevents me from just animating visibility?

Photoshop :: Oil Paint Feature - Preview / No Preview Capability?

Sep 3, 2012

A feature notably absent from the Oil Paint filter is any way to temporarily disable the effect (e.g., not preview it).I happen to like using Oil Paint to make refllections in the surface of water smoother and more "liquid" (which involves turning off the "Shine"), and it would really be nice if I could easily gauge the amount of the effect easily by blinking back and forth between original and processed image with a quick "disable preview" functionality.

With most standard filters, one can either uncheck a [ ] Preview box, and/or click the mouse button down on the image to temporarily show what the image is like without the effect.Yes, I know I can turn the Stylization down to 0.1 and see how a very minimal amount of the effect can be  applied.  And I can look at the original image in Photoshop proper, but of course that can't be zoomed while the Oil Paint filter is active.

Also, the zooming / panning seems kind of stiffly implemented. In summary, the more or less standard and expected filter features I'd like to see added to this (new class of) GPU-accelerated filters are:Preview/No Preview capability.  It doesn't have to update Photoshop, just the preview display in the filter itself.  I suggest a [  ] Preview checkbox and/or an on-mouse-click temporary effect disable.

Modal click and drag Zooming vs. Panning - i.e., based on a Zoom or Pan function selected (e.g., via an icon along the left) vs. having to hold modifier keys down.  I personally would want it set to Zoom by default, not Pan.  Since the filter has scroll bars (a Good Thing), I would have thought Zoom would have been a better default as it is. I have implemented these things in my own GPU-accelerated plug-ins, so I know that all the infrastructure Adobe needs to support them is already in there.  These changes are controls only and should be trivial to implement.

My trouble is when I import the FBX animations into UDK, they don't seem to play at all after I've added them to my anim group for the skeletal mesh. I animated lots of characters and animals and exported into UDK fine. Are there some special export settings I need for a model like this pistol?

Photoshop :: Converting Timeline Animations Into SWF?

It needs to be SWF.  I've tried to convert MP4 into SWF using a 3rd party software but the quality was shocking and I'm unsure what settings to use for the original animation and also for the converting!  Doing it with CS6 is much prefered if possible!

Photoshop :: Replacing Graphics In Animations

Apr 18, 2013

I have just begun experimenting with the animations feature in Photoshop (or maybe it is called timeline). I feel it very useful for animation small sprites for 2D game characters but there is one thing I seem to not be able to figure out and that is how to "replace" graphics? Say for example I have a walk cycle with a character holding a sword. I have layers for the body parts that I move around until I have an animation. It would then be very good if I could just drop in another sprite for a weapon, say an axe and have it replace the sword.

The only way I have been able to do this is to manually remove the sword and place the axe in the exact spot of the sword had, but that is a very clumsy and slow method.
