I quite often have to work with scanned in images of very old drawings. (some going back decades).
These are usually sent to me in PDF format. I extract a TIFF image from the PDF, then will open it up in Microsoft image manager to tweak the rotation, save, then reopen it up in Microsoft Paint to clean up the image. (delete trash marks, old notes, redraw / darken lines, etc.)
I'm trying to figure out a way to clean up the background in a photo I'm working on. Is there a way (tool/plugin) to extend existing material over an area you want to cover up? I want the background to look consistent. I tried cutting and pasting and it looks OK but a little ragged.

I often scan b/w documents with my scanner to Photoshop. The scan always has spots (noise) which are time consuming to remove. I'm basically zooming in and erasing each one.
Does anyone know of any easy time saving steps/procedures I could use to remove these spots?
I am currently using AutoCad 2008 and when i get DWG from another consultant I need to 'clean' it up to make it appropriate to xref into our working drawings. I need tips on the best way of cleaning up the consultants drawings. I delete a majority of information I don't need and put the information onto a couple of layers then purge. Should I explode the blocks? The xref keeps crashing the working drawing.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to a new machine . I downloaded ACLT 2012 and it runs like a champ.
Now i am cleaning up scads of AC files from my old computer that were transferred and dumped into Documents and Notepad and all sports of places by the tech guys who built my new machine.
Some are of hatches, some are of commands, some just will not open....but all are dated from 10 years or longer from old versions of AC.
NONE are from my new ACLT 2012
What would be the best way to delete?
I am trying to clean up my block that i have made and there seems to be some lingering text styles?
I only am using the one? There doesn't appear to be any more hidden layers or entities in the drawing? Yet when i try to delete these text styles from the text styles manager, it won't let me? It keeps telling me it is in use?
Note: Purge doesn't work within in the block editor it seems, and if i open the .dwg and do not go into the block editor, purge finds nothing to purge?
Having something very strange happen out of the blue.Have wall types like lightweight block (Component Priority = 300) and stud gyp walls (Component Priority = 500) suddenly cleaning up w/ each other.
Hasn't been happening before when base lines extend to each other, but suddenly on this new project they are.
I am expanding on my modeling w/ this project. I taken another step in 3D modeling w/ ACA and am extending walls vertically to multiple floors and referencing the base floor plan into (below) the base file of the second floor. Everything is working as I expected and set up EXCEPT for this one thing. Hard to point to this as the difference because I'm having this issue on the first floor....where the reference issue is not part of the equation.
Also, know there is a way for my lightweight block walls on the second floor to clean up/merge w/ lightweight block of the exterior walls being referenced in...but can't find where that "check box"/switch is. Found it many moons ago, but didn't need it then.
I don't know about others having drawing that either have DGN trash like linetypes or (Cells) blocks that seem to not purge out even if you use the regular wblock command.
And if you go to purge and toggle "View items you cannot purge" you see them.
You want to clean the drawing and you want to keep all your paperspace tabs so you will end up with a clean drawing.
1) use the command -wblock
2) enter a new name
3) enter * (that will tell Autocad to create a new drawing with everything in it)
4) close the old drawing don't save and open your new clean drawing with all your paperspace tabs, your done!
I have connected to several raster images and they are displaying as required and I've saved this drawing. I've created a new drawing and when the previous drawing is xref'd in the images are not present.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created a large complex assembly that is parametrically driven by a skeletal sketch ipt by means of an embedded excel spreadsheet.
I am cleaning up the models by deleting obsolete user parameters. But there is one that will just not give me the option to delete it.
I have interrogated the model inside and out but can not find anywhere that this parameter is still being used.
I go into the Parameter Dialogue Box (ƒx) and hover the cursor over the parameter and there is nothing that apears that indicates theis parameter is used anywhere in the model.
Is there an iLogic routine or some other method that will allow me to run a check or a search through the model that will point me to where the parameter might still be lingering.
I have attached a JPG if it will make things clearer.
RHRT_1 is the Parameter I am trying to get rid of.
BTW. The Models and Assemblies I create are guarded by Proprietry Laws so I am unable to send a copy to anyone.

I have imported a number of raster images into a drawing and wish to turn the "blank" bits transparent. I can set them all to "Background transparency = YES" in the Properties bar, but as far as I can see I need to go through each one individually to set the relevant transparency color, since as soon as I select more than one tile the "Transparency color" tab disappears.
Is there a way to do a multiple select as the "blank" color is the same for all the tiles? I'm planning to use a lot of tiles and this will be incredibly laborious and inefficient otherwise. I am using Map 3D 2011.
I have a pretty high resolution map of Manhattan in 1884 (screenshot below). The bones are good and it's what I need for a research project, but I'm finding it next to impossible to clean it up to the point where I can start. Ideally I want to get rid of everything but the gridwork of the streets. I can desaturate it and play with curves and levels, etc., but while I can clean up a lot of it, I'm finding it pretty much impossible to isolate the street grid. I already have 500+ text layers for street and avenue names. I'm hoping there's some way to do this that doesn't involve me setting up a new layer and tracing the whole island, block for block.
I'm using CS6 on a mac.
I'm fairly comfortable with photoshop; I can work with layers and masks, etc., but this is beyond my technical skills. I'm wondering:
1. Is this doable at all?
2. Am I missing something obvious?
3. Should I start over again with Illustrator?
I'm not very familiar with Illustrator, which is why I started with Photoshop. However, this is not anywhere near my area of expertise
Have some questions regarding follow up on my installation of PS CS6. First thing to say is that I hardly ever use PS. I use LR4.4 99.9% of the time, but occasionally have gone to CS3 for small adjustments even though I don't really know how to use it. Planning to learn now that I have 6. I'm running 10.6.8. (Disappointed that I can't upgrade to LR5 so will, at least, need to learn content aware, which was my main reason to go to PS6 anyway.)
So, the questions:
1. I have CS6 standard upgraded from CS3 extended. Any reason to keep CS3 around for low-level, general photography editing to take advantage of its "extended" qualities?
2. Other Adobe software that seems to have tagged along with other Adobe programs:
a} Adobe Stock Photos CS3? Nothing even opens when I click on it - can it go?
b) Device central CS3 - assuming it can go if CS3 goes but I don't see a "Device central" for CS6. Don't really know what it is, anyway.
c) Extension Manager CS4, CS5.5, and CS6. Can't imagine where the CS4 came from. CS5.5 probably came along with In Design 5.5, which is still in use, so probably keep that? Assume keep CS6.
d) Bridge 5.1 and 6. Looks like they are both picking up the same things. I don't use it since I'm using LR. Figuring get rid of 5.1 and keep 6 just because.
e} Interestingly, no ACR came tagging along with PS CS6. Since anything I would send to PS is going to go through LR4 I don't see a real reason to have it. I think the new fun stuff on LR5 isn't going into the new ACR anyway and, I figure I wouldn't be able to run it on 10.6, it doesn't seem like I really need it.
I have a vector image that includes a red circle as part of the image, but the circle is not 100 % even and round. Is there an easy way to clean up the circle to make it even all the way around?

I cropped it , ran auto colors and auto levels, and then desaturated the lips a bit,
I have an old photo of my brother and his surfboard that is very grainy and dark. It was taken with a very old camera and has been abused and cracked through the years. I have scanned this photo and would like to remove the grain. I don't really care about the background, but I would like my brother and his surfboard to look sharp and clean. I tried burring the image to lose some of the grain, but I then lose alot of the contrasting lines and obviously the sharpness of the image.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently received this poor-quality Xeroxed scan (below) as a PDF, and was asked if I could enhance it to show the names written on the pages. Does anybody know of a way to improve the quality of this image so the names are more legible (original image size is 8x11)? The image is of a logbook of prisoners interned at Buchenwald concentration camp in 1944; my friend's father's name is on the left page, about halfway down. The quality is actually much better in PS than what is displayed here. If need be, I can email you the original PDF, if that'll help.

I would like to enlarge them, but of course this makes the pictures pixelated and bad quality. Is there a way to get around this and make them look better? I could swear I have seen a plug-in that does this (or simulates) and helps make pictures look better with more detail. I suppose it could be gray scale, if need be as long as it looks clean and mostly b/w.
Oftentimes I face the need to restore a picture of a text document -mainly forms to fill- to something approaching the original document. This requires to remove all the grey parts and to have a result in black on white i.e. no other colors. It may also require some understanding of how characters are formed -regardless the language- to prevent white dots in the middle of a character
With the document restored, one can then fill the form with an editor so as to have it clearly (printed characters) and easily (because filled with a editor) filled
My question is how do you do that with Gimp.
Is it possible to clean up all "sketch" lines in this image, leave just the skull (with teeth) with smooth and dark lines. I want to turn this into a logo.
I can make this image black and white then quickly get rid of the red. I'm just looking to get rid of the gray sketch marks and make it all one solid black outline while keeping the lines the thickness they should be as to not alter the picture.
I did a live trace and it did pretty well. The image I traced was fairly simple. But I ended up with a lot of extra pieces in what should be a solid color. I've tried Select > Object > Stray points, but that didn't work. I have large area that I want to be one solid piece. Within this area, there are lots of little "pieces" that are the same color... How do I merge them all into one piece? I tried "Unite" in the pathfinder, and that didn't work, either.
In case I'm not being clear, basically, I want to do what the "smooth" function does in Photoshop... but in Illustrator.
I'm using CS6 on a Mac.

I have been playing with the nodes at the peak of this image but I can't get a uniform line.
how to get them clean and crisp? black ink drawings is what im scannin in, ive figured this much out; scan it in at a high resolution (i scaned in at 600dpi), scan it in grayscale, mess with the levels. the overall goal is to scan in a line drawing and color it.
im trying to get the lines to be a uniform solid black. ionno if this is something i should try to get when im actually drawing it or something that is best left to PS. it looks pretty good on paper but when i got it in PS the lines are not as solid as i thought.
Does anyone know how to clean dirt from a photo without losing the texture or the original integrity of the pic? The photo attached has a layer of brownish dirt discolration evident around the collar and clothing. I imagine this would take hours to correct using the stamp tool. I'm sure there's a way to combine layers or something to clean this up without over-softening the photo.
