AutoCad :: Basic 3D Object Resizing
Nov 29, 2011
I was wondering how you can resize 3d objects, eg) there is a wall 5 feet long and a hole for a window 1ft from the left. How can I resize the wall to, say 9ft with the window hole staying 1ft from the left hand side? Assume I can only resize from the LHS as the RHS is attached to another wall or something.

Resizing objects is a mess in CorelDRAW X6 when objects are outlined with Scale With Object enabled to retain proportions after resizing.
None of the tools dealing with outlines (e.g. Contour or even Outline itself) continue to work properly after resizing the object.
I strongly suggest to recalculate outline property values after resizing if Scale With Object is checked. Don't just do it hidden somewhere internally in the object model by applying a temporary scaling factor. Instead actually recalculate the actual property values if Scale With Object is checked.

I have encountered a problem with the masks I use on smart object layers resizing so that they only extend to the bounds of the image they are masking in photoshop cc. The problem occurring is that many times the mask is 1px too small, and leaves a hairline border of the masked image visible. This seems to be happening when the smart object is saved/updated or resized. One work around is placing this smart object in a group and then masking that group, but this is not an ideal way to organize my files and is not always applicable.

I'm trying to create an object that has a minimum size restriction, so it can be increased in size but it can't be reduced beyond a set size. Is this possible?
Also is it possible to set restraints to an object so that it can only be resized in proportion to itself, i.e. it can only be resized using the diagonal points rather the horizontal/vertical points as this may alter the object (e.g. squash or stretch the object).

I need to be able to re-size images that are large than 1MB in order to put them on our MLS site.
My previous computer had 2 arrow icons on the desktop.
One was for re-sizing horizontal pics and the other for re-sizing vertical pics.
I could simply drag/drop the image file onto these re-sizing icons and they would be re-sized.
The smaller file size thumbnail would appear on the desktop.
How can I get these re-sizing tools on my new computer's desktop?
I am using CS6.

When I draw a line at my template it always has the line type scale 5 as default under properties.
I know that I can chance this by hand or chance a basic line type scale with the command "lts".
But all the lines in the drawings of our partner have the line type scale 1 under properties. So if I used "lts", there would either my lines or their lines be scaled wrong. Also I don't want to chance the default line type scale of each line by hand.
Is there a possibility to set up something that each line I'm drawing, starts with a specific line type scale as default under properties?

I downloaded student version Autodesk Inventor 2012 a few month ago. When I start the inventor and go to OPEN, I had the standard options in both inches and millimeters.
BUT someone I work with kind of deleted all my SI unit settings on my computer (thought that we will never use it cuz we are in America...) and now when I want to make something new, i only have Inch options to choose from.
Now I need to make something that is in millimeters, but when I go to File> OPEN, I only have standard options in INCHes....
Should I delete my current Inventor and Download a new one? OR Can I download a folder or file that contains all the SI unit ?

I'm coming back to Autocad after a break of several years and a lot of versions. I'm struggling to remember how to do basic things.
I've got a large drawing containing a lot of tiny hexagons on a layer and I need to increase the size of all of these at the same positions.

I have a new machine that locks up when doing basic tasks. Things such as pedit, switching tabs, undo. I am beginning to think that it is hardware related because the same drawing work perfectly fine in older machines
Xeon E3-1240
16GB RAM
MSI Z77A-G41 LGA 1155 MB
Samsung Pro SSD 256GB
AMD FirePro W5000 Video Card
This is the first build with a SSD and this Video Card. I have the AMD V4900 in two other machines and they seem to be adequate but wanted a better card for this build.

is there a simple way of converting a drawing from a complex draiwng including blocks/dynamic blocks so that it becomes effectively a dumb drawing of lines arcs and text.
the only solution i have is to convert the drawing to a pdf then convert it back to a dwg using a pdf to dwg converter.
the reason being i dont want my client to work out how i construct my drawings.

how to create a basic door and a window. I know it's easy, but I'm new to AutoCad. I'm taking a class, and I know that we use the W (Write Block) command and the I (Insert) command. I think that I have to know how to take the dimensions for a door and window and create them.

get any further with VB.net I'm trying to (re)create some autocad commands (and a own features, eventually).
I'm trying a move command now.A recreation of the Autocad command.
The selection of object works. Moving the set between two points works. The only thing thats too advanced for me is the drag posibility VB offers.

I created a basic part using Inventor and some how something created some parameters out of the blue. I know that I didn't create the parameters. The parameters got created automatically some how and I would like to know how this happened so I can do it again, because it would save a lot of time.
Here are some of the parameters that got created.

how can I "remove" the extrusion from a 3d object?
I attached the .dwg to be more easily understood...(hopefully...)
11 MaTiuBA Bank ohne AL.dwg
So, I drew the basic shape, made an extrusion. This created the 3d solid. Now I want to make changes to the basic shape. For this I need to go back to the basic shape without the extrusion...

I just downloaded my trial of inventor suite and before going through learning tutorials I want to find out the general work flow I need in order to see where to focus my attention during these 30 days.I need to be able to do mechanical part and assembly designs built around 3 scan files (mainly provided as .STL files).
1) take the file and orient it to the project axis/plane
2) scale it if needed
3) design components around 3 scan characteristics
4) design modifications to 3D SCAN to accommodate designed components (such as bolean out pockets to house components within 3d scan features
5) modify surface of 3 scan to allow surfaces to flow into changes made in step 4
example:
-take 3d STL scan of a solid screwdriver handle
-orient it to the inventor work planes and axis
-design a metal screwdriver bit based on the shape of the handles 3d scan
-design and boolean out a cavity to accommodate the metal bit
-place bit design within cavity
modify screwdriver handle surfaces to seamlessly flow onto the metal bit... what software would do what part of the process and if there is specific terminology what that is so that I can better search the knowledge base and Autodesk University?

Installed Product desgin suite 2014. I can create a new inventor dwg file and place a base view of an assembly into it. I then attempt to check it in and it causes Inventor to not respond and eventually crash. When I reopen the dwg from my working folder and attempt to check it in again it gives me an error saying that the file already exists.

I have tried...
ThisDoc.Document.ActiveSheet.TitleBlock.Definition = "Title Block Name"
ThisDoc.Document.ActiveSheet.TitleBlock.Definition.Name = "Title Block Name" (This changes the name of the title block in the browser but doesnt swap it out.)
Call ThisDoc.Document.ActiveSheet.TitleBlock.Definition("Title Block Name")

We had a brief powercut this morning, literally brief: it was less than a second. It was enough to turn off all our machines and since then my colleagues machine is acting in a weird manner.
It starts and opens LT2010 perfectly well but then selecting elements has no effect on the layer drop down. In properties it shows the element is one layer but the drop down shows another.
Double clicks no longer start the edit commands. Pressing delete key doesn't erase anything. I have checked in the CUI and all the key commands double clicks appear as normal.
We asked IT to repair the install, which they have done but nothing has changed. I did ask about going back to the restore point but the IT guy mumbled something technical I didn't understand then walked off to do the install repair.

I want to bend/fold this piece over a specific profile. There are too many tools for bending a sheet metal and I just don´t know where to start. I searched the web and this forum but there are too many options. Also when I create the flat pattern, it should be precise with a difference max +/-5mm. I thought I could use contour flange. Usualy it works. But only when it´s a simple rectangle. But not on this part.
I work with Inventor 2011.
