AutoCad :: Attributes In Xrefs Don't Update Automatically?

Nov 7, 2012

I received a title block update from the architect and it has a block attribute that has the delta revisions of the project. So the new file had a text addition for delta 2. When I replaced the old title block with the new one and then opened one of my sheets, the title block is not showing delta 2, the field is empty.

Do attributes not update automatically? do I need to detach and reattach the title block in all my sheets ?

AutoCad :: Automatically Open And Reassociate / Reattach All XREFs

Nov 11, 2013

I get 3rd party zip files from our consultants.

They contain the consultant's DWG, plus our office's initial plans in DWG, logos, fonts, etc.

I used to be able to simply Extract the zipped file and then open up the main DWG. Then the main DWG and all associated XREFs would open smoothly. Now, when I open the consultant DWG, none of the XRefs are opening and being placed automatically, and I can only see the consultant's DWG, which looks like a bunch of blips because there's no context.

How I can get things back to normal? One click that will automatically open and re-associate/re-attach all the XREFs needed? I tried attaching a zip file as an example but it exceeds the maximum allowed

AutoCAD 2010 :: Xrefs Being Automatically Saved To Wrong Format?

Jun 29, 2010

We’re working in AutoCAD 2010 but need to save as 2007 DWG. AutoCAD is set in Options to save to 2007 format, and all files - host and reference - are or should be in that format.

Something is triggering an automatic save of the xrefs. The xrefs are not being edited, in-place or otherwise, but every so often I get a balloon message saying the xref has changed and I need to update it. So I update it, and when I check the file format, I find it’s been saved in 2010 DWG.

Other people on the project are also having this problem. Engineers on this project are using 2009 and keep coming to us and asking where the xrefs are.

This is AutoCAD 2010, "English Version 3" running in XP2 SP3.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Auto Update List Of Xrefs In Drawing?

May 3, 2012

I have been trying to get a list of xrefs contained within a drawing to auto update by using Rtext.

I have got as far as using the following diesel expression.

Xref's in this file are indicated as - Xref name [Filepath]

$(Xrefs,3,)
$(Images,3,Images in this file: )

This gives me more or less what I want but I dont want to show the file path. What changes to the expression I need to do to achieve this.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Moving Attributes Automatically

Oct 17, 2012

I just have a quick question (hopefully) about an activity I want a Dynamic block to perform.

I have a simple electric switch block (a line with an S over it), that in some cases is enclosed by a simple rectangle. When the switch is enclosed, I'd like the attribute to move further, to keep the spacing the same.

Is there a way to make the attribute move automatically with the display of the rectangle, maybe through some combination of Linear Move parameters, Visibility parameters, and a formula?

AutoCad 2D :: Automatically Updating Defined Width Attributes For MTEXT?

Dec 8, 2011

I was curious to see if there's a way to set up Autocad (2010) to recognize when MTEXT objects are edited, and have it adjust their defined width automatically (both single- and multi-line)--versus having to click on the arrow every time to snap the text box "margin" to the actual text. I'd like to do this to keep my background masks the exact width of the text; I just hate it when the mask doesn't cover enough of the text, or when it covers more and the background is unnecessarily obscured. I'm careful about keeping things neat, but my coworkers aren't .

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Create Block - Add Attributes Automatically

Nov 3, 2013

How I can modify this code to create a block, ask for a new name for the block, then add the attributes listed inside the code below to the new created block. The lisp does a wonderful job - however, it only works if you already have a block created. We are in the process of drawing components and making blocks one by one, so it makes sense to add the attributes automatically when the block is created. We currently have over 500 components to create as a block and set the attributes to each one by one.

Also I would like to know, If Fields can be used inside the lisp routine. That way we can always have access to the attributes from outside the block and change values for all the blocks at once.

(defun c:addattribs ( / blk def ) (while (not (or (= "" (setq blk (getstring t "
Name of block to update: "))) (tblsearch "BLOCK" blk) ) ) (princ (strcat "
Block "" blk "" not found.")) ) (if (/= "" blk) (progn (setq def (vla-item (vla-get-blocks (vla-get-activedocument (vlax-get-acad-object))) blk)) (vla-addattribute def (getvar 'textsize) acattributemodelockposition "New Attribute 1" (vlax-3D-point 0 0) "NEW_TAG1" "New Value 1" ) (vla-addattribute def (getvar 'textsize) acattributemodelockposition "New Attribute 2" (vlax-3D-point 0 (- (* 1.5 (getvar 'textsize)))) "NEW_TAG2" "New Value 2" ) (command "_.attsync" "_N" blk) ) ) (princ))(vl-load-com) (princ)

AutoCAD .NET :: Update Field Data - Redefine Block Attributes

I've got a block with multiple attributes. This is not a problem to redefine the blocks attributes.

Some of the attributes contains dynamic fields (blockplace holder x y z parameters) When i insert a block with such atributes that includes the blockplaceholder dynamic fields i get

X: InsertionPoint => It is recognized as an Dynamic field but displays InsertionPoint. and does not update the value.

How can i update the fielddata from vb.net?

Part of the code I use (where i think the problem is)

For Each attid As ObjectId In refbtr attent = tr.GetObject(attid, OpenMode.ForRead) If TypeOf attent Is AttributeDefinition Then Dim attdef As AttributeDefinition = attent Dim attref As New AttributeReference() attref.SetAttributeFromBlock(attdef, myBlockRef.BlockTransform) Dim attrefid As ObjectId = myBlockRef.AttributeCollection.AppendAttribute(attref) tr.AddNewlyCreatedDBObject(attref, True) End IfNext

AutoCAD 2010 :: Update Block Attributes In Drawing From Excel Spreadsheet

Oct 15, 2012

I have a basic floor plan in AutoCAD 2012 that has blocks in specific locations which contain personel data....name, phone, computer tag, desk key numbers, etc.  I extracted the data to an Excel spreadsheet and I thought set up a "data link".  But I don't know how to make the data update.

My problem...moves of staff, phone, computers are often made, but no one lets me know about it until they want a new floor plan printed and the computer and key tags get so messed up from the moves that it can take me hours to fix.

My goal is to be able to have our secretarial staff update the spreadsheet and in turn update the blocks in my AutoCAD drawing when it is opened and/or "updated".

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Automatically Export Attributes From Selected Blocks To Defined Txt File

Oct 3, 2012

How to create a lisp to automatically export attributes from selected blocks to defined txt file without having to everytime confirm the file name, location and if the file shall be replaced?

Meaning is that I often export attributes to txt file for further use. It is always the same file (I just overwrite it always).

The way I do it now is selecting blocks, using ATTOUT command, then going to the desktop, selecting ATT.txt file and confirming that it is to be replaced.

Is there a way to make lisp or script that will just do all it in at once?

I found on forum such a lisp as below, but it exports all ablocks on drawing and it exports to txt file which is located in same  place as drawing and with same name as drawing. Tried to modify it but without success:

(defun cut-att ()
(load "attout")
(setq fna (strcat (getvar "dwgprefix")
(acet-filename-path-remove (acet-filename-ext-remove (getvar "dwgname")))
".txt"
))
(setq ss (ssget "X" '((0 . "INSERT") (66 . 1))))
(bns_attout fna ss)
)

Same question for ATTIN - I use attin and always same file name from same location - how to automate it with one command?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Create Block With Attributes That Automatically Complete X / Y And Z For Insertion Point Of Block?

Feb 14, 2013

Is there a way to create a block with attributtes that automatically complete x, y, z, lat, long for the insertion point of the block?

I am trying to complete text in paperspace that will automatically fill in the lat long of a point in model space without using a table.  I have tried field insertion with reference to a cogo point, but it doesn't give options for position on a cogo point.  If I pick a block with attributes, it will let me pick any attributes, and x,y position for the block.

Cogo points show all the information I need to propagate in the properties....but how do I get that to translate into the text using fields or some other method?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Material Favorites Does Not Update When Update Materials

Dec 9, 2013

I made a change to my materials library.  I changed the color (from dark grey to light grey) of one material.  I then saved this back to my library.

Now, when I start a new part, I get a warning that the material does not match the library.  So, rather than using the material in the part, I opened the template and updated the material to match the library. (Manage >Update Styles).

This is where the problems come into play. In the update styles dialog, if I compare materials against my custom materials and then compare it to my Favorites, it just a continuious circle.  It is like the favorites are stored inside the part and do not get updated to match the custom materials library. (I thought the whole idea behind using a library was to get the information out of the parts).

Here is a short video showing what it does. [URL] .....

The only way I can get the favorites to match is to delete the favorite material, update the style and the add the favorite back in.  That is a bunch of work.  The problem I got with this is that there are thousands of parts that have been created that has this favorite in it.  The only way to update these is to open each part (if I knew which one), delete the favorite, update the materials and then add the favorite back in.

I see the same thing in 2013 and 2014.

AutoCAD .NET :: How To Add Xrefs To Drawing

May 21, 2012

I am having an issue with adding xrefs to drawings.  The way I have this setup is the user inputs information and the number of sheets.  This then sets up a sheet set with the information and then for each value for the number of sheets the user gets a dialog askign for a number, name, and description for that sheet.

so if the user puts in 5 as the number of sheets, the user gets that dialog 5 times.

also I have a dialog that asks the user if they are adding xrefs to the sheets, if they answer yes then it adds the xrefs to each sheet that is created (this is where I have an issue).

This works perfect for the first sheet that is added, how ever after you fill in the information and submit for the second sheet autocad gives a fatal exception error and closes. not sure if I am missing on turning something off, closing, or stoping something before the next sheet is created.

here is the code I have at this point:

'checks to see if the dialog was yes
If xrefd.DialogResult = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Yes Then 'shows the dialog efd.ShowDialog() 'shows the dialog pfd.ShowDialog() 'runs for each value in total sheets
For i As Integer = 1 To info.TotalSheetNum.Value 'shows the dialog sheetinfo.ShowDialog() 'checks to see if the sheet number is 1 If sheetinfo.SheetNum.Text = "1"
Then 'sets the sheet set default values SetSheetSetDefaults(ssdb, info.NameTxt.Text,
"Description",
