Any way to sweep a rectangle along a 3D spline and keep the top of the rectangle parallel to the ground?
I make complex spiral handrail and when i sweep and rectangle along a 3D spline normally, it twists and is wrong. I know that there is a plug-in on sketch that is specifically designed for this called 'Follow me and keep' .
I am using Inventor 2012. I am trying to sweep the pink shape around the pink rectangle but I get a weird result. Can I not sweep around a rectangle from the center? See attachment. I want to add more to the shape but when I do the result gets weirder.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to model an internal 1/8"-27 NPT thread, both the through hole and the tapered part of the hole are modeled, but after I draw the helix and the polygon and orient the polygon to the helix correctly, (or even if I don't, I have tried it) it keeps saying unable to sweep object. I am using Sweep with Alignment with the No option. If I select the polygon first, then click sweep, it works, but rotates the polygon so that what I get ends up looking nothing like a thread profile.
I have tried reducing the polygon radius down to a ridiculously small value, thinking it might have been interference due to a possible trig miscalculation, but with no success, still have the same issue. FYI, I am using a .037" turn height for 27 TPI and a polygon radius of .0214", with a helix small end radius of .177" and large end radius of .189".
Solution to getting a horizontal sweep to miter with a vertical sweep? Or maybe there is a way to pick a path? A feature in the full version that Autodesk deemed unnecessary for LT.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 4 layers (background, layer1, layer2, layer3-text). They fill all 300 x 600 pixels that comprise the .psd/future image. What I want to do is use a rounded rectangle to encompass all of the other layers, so that the surrounding pixels (around the rounded rectangle) are transparent.
I want all of my current layers to be the content of a rounded rectangle.
I saw that the Rounded Rectangle properties were not available on the regular rectangle (to change corner radius).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'd like to have a menu option next to "Grounded" which is "Grounded to origin", to save setting three flush constraints every time I pull a part into an assembly and want it to have the same origin as the assembly. This is something I do quite a lot using the multibody part > derived part > assembly workflow. Apart from saving time it would save cluttering up the model browser. In the meantime is there a scripting method of doing this with one click? IV2013
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe here at work have recently implemented using the survey database feature in CAD as a better way of manipulating and organizing points in our drawings. However, we have begun to notice a few issues with how the survey database imports points (?).
Sometimes, and I say sometimes because it is very sporratic, some drawings exhibit the issue and some do not, the points will be skewed off the linework (we are converting existing projects to the survey database). In these situations I find that the Northing and Easting don't match the ascii file it was imported from, instead the "Grid Northing" and "Grid Easting" do. Also, some drawings will have a slightly different Grid Northing and Grid Easting vs Northing and Easting, whereas some drawings will have the exact coordinates for both sets of fields. I believe the issue is one and same.
Our points handling goes like this, Data Collector--->TBC (where ground to grid and scaling is performed)---->exported to ascii file------>Imported to CAD.
This is very confusing and irritating at the same time, and really counterproductive to be troubleshooting why our points keep moving. Redrawing the linework is NOT an option, we'll sooner go back to simple ascii file imports (where the problem is NOT present) then have to redo all of our work on our projects.
why can't i sketch on the ground plane? If i turn on the ground plae I assume it is a plane like any other but I can't sketch on it nor can i attach nother plane to it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to extend the existing ground profile. I previously had stopped the profile at 25+00 as shown in the attached. However, I need to add on another 100' to 26+00. I can only view info in the Profile Properties. I can't change the end station.
How do I get it to extend?
Previously in LDD when I had a project i needed to transfer from grid to ground I could simply create a block of everything. Scale the entire block from a mid point of the site, explode the block, run check points and done.
Now in C3D 2012 when I explode my block it changes my elevations too. Yikes!!!! Luckily I had a copule of points
elevations labled and I noticed the new "Feature" of scaling my elevations too.
My site is 4,500' across and grid to ground changes it 0.32'
Is there a setting to change this behavior?
I seem to have made what many might consider a rookie mistake. Built a fairly complex structure for an overhead crane system and get to the end to find that I missed two holes. The problem with these two holes is it is ONLY 1 plate (my grounded part), but I have used this same part in one other instance. So if I edit (even from within assembly) and add the two holes to the grounded plate it creates them in the other plate, which I dont want.
Since I have the second plate being used as a refence to locate MANY other parts on this unit, it would be quite difficult to replace it with a new part (same but different file name).
Any way to add said two holes to the grounded plate only and not the other?

Some time ago i used express tools to save my sysvar settings and now when i read the old settings back in, i'm put in 3D parallel project mode. I know this because i have the background color for this mode set to something other than the background color for 2D model space. But now i can't get out of 3d parallel projection mode.

At stations where I have a template drop in my section editor, it is not representing what is really happening because it just is perpendicular to one alignment. Is there a way to develop a secondary alignment that will have my section editor show what will be parallel to both alignments.

I am drawing pipe and beams.
I use a variety of methods. Right now I just SNAP to the elipse, draw the lines at the angles and then hit the other elipse. Sometimes though the lines jump all around the elipse.
I'm trying to draw a line that is parallel to the one I've already drawn. It works fine (Osnap on) when I draw a whole new line and then draw a parallel line. But when I try to add a parallel extension to an old line, it doesn't work. The old line is located in another layer, but I tried to copy it to the same layer and it still doesn't work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that I require to extract coordinates from specific points on the drawing and set them out on the ground at the real location.
On the drawing there are several base station locations with known coordinates. I have tried coordinating the drawing using Ctrl a, move, then type in the known coordinates of one of the base station location but nothing happens. I have also set the drawing to world with no change.
The coordinates in the bottom left corner are shown but are around 500m out.
I have created a part in Inventor that is not on the ground plane, is there an easy way to quickly re-position this on the ground plane ?

How can the cross sections be setup to label the existing and proposed grade at the centerline of a cross section, see attached. Could do this in LD but have not been able to figure it out in Civil 3D

Whenever I open a part (or iam), the ground plane and ambient shadows are active. If I turn them off (on View tab, appearance panel) and exit the part, then reopen it again, the ground plane and ambient shadows are active again.
How do I save these appearance settings? Do I have to turn these off EVERYTIME I open a part?
I didnt see anything in the app options for this.
I am just trying to compare a surface that was provided from a different survey company of the original ground of the borrow pit.
Although I used the same control I feel that there is something not matching with the elevations of the original ground provided and the outside of pit original ground measured this time. How do I check that the original ground is matching up in elevation?
I'm doing drawings of a construction site. Traditionally, in AutoCAD drawings, we show a solid line to represent the ground plane in elevation views. I'd like to do the same thing in my Inventor drawings.
I can "include" the XZ Plane in the view, which shows the line I'm wanting, but it shows as a phantom line.
Right-clicking either the line in the drawing or the plane in the browser only gives me the option to "Edit Center Mark Style..."
If I go to the Style Editor, Object Defaults, Work Plane, the object style is Center Mark (ANSI). If I click on that, the drop-down only gives me that one choice.

We have been experimenting with Parallel threading. The situation is that I have an assembly that contains multiple parts (approx. 40) which all have contained "almost" the same code. In order to rationalize this; we have rearranged the code in such way that we now only reference External iLogic rules form these 40 part files (only one place to revise the code if necessary).
The side effect to this rationalization has been the we have problems in executing the codes in parallel, see this simplified example:

Now all of these 40 part files try to execute their code.

As they all are dependent upon running the same external rules the result is that not all part files are updated according to the required design requirements. It seem as if one of the part files calls the external rule and the rule is "busy" handling another part file it just terminates without warnings or errors.
Can multiple part files run the same external rule at the same time? Is there some form of queue? I do not get any warnings or errors, the partfiles just do not update. How can I make sure that all the part files run the external rules and is there a way of checking this?
This is probably a simple one that I am missing, but how do I get a parallel constraint applied to these two edges.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs you see in the picture I have a subdivision that follows a curving road, and therefore all the lot lines also follow the road. This is unfortunate, as I have been creating label styles 1 by 1 for left, center, right, for every angle of line. Is there a way to get your label to go parallel with the line automatically?
What I am thinking of is with structures, there is that circular grip that rotates the structure, is there something similar to this with labels? or must i keep grinding away making the labels one by one in their separate degree intervals.
Right now I have 33 label styles.... and I am not even 1/4 of the way done.
What I have is a shape files that contains the road centreline of a city I am working on. And that shape files also have a data of its road name etc.
I know how to do it as FDO (using map connect). But what I require is an autocad text entity.
I can save the map as a drawing. But what I only want is just a number of road names and they are not adjacent or near to each other so map filtering is not recommended.
So what I did, I add the shape files using map import command and added the road name data. And then, I used the command Annotation and do the "define annotation" and "insert annotation". From here, I am doing fine. I created a text/block annotation that will extract the road name on the imported centreline on the line I just selected.
Now, my problem is, all the text are in just one direction (in my case they are all horizontal). I tried playing the "rotation expression" but still without luck.
how or what "rotation expression" should I use to make the text parallel/along the centreline.
Is there a way to have a 2-jaw parallel gripper's jaws move in synch? That is when I move 1 jaw the other one moves the same distance.
